I' m trying to compile Wu-Ftpd 2.42 Beta 17 but compilation always fails. I' ve tried several times, I made some changes to makefiles, but no success. You will need the floppy=thinkpad setting or you will not be able to use the floppy. IBM decided to invert the bit that determines if there is a disk in the driver or not. Sigh. Dear fellow SuSE users, I am looking for your help and advice in the following matter : On SuSE 5.2, it has been very hard to get the XFree86 server up and running. My card is a Matrox Millenium PCI with 4M° Ram 220Mhz RamDac. Neither XSetup nor XConfig would generate a running server at first. I looked in SuSE support Database web site, DejaNews etc... Nothing worked until I ran SuperProbe and XSetup just afterwards. This time I could have evrything I wanted i.e. 1024x768 at depths between 16 and 32bits. When I have just done that, I can start any X session I want, quit, start again etc. All is not fine however, because after rebooting the machine (just normal reboot because I want to switch OS or whatever) and I try startx again, I get an error message stating my card cannot stand this resolution. It also appears in the error message like a generic card. I checked whether the links are right (following SuSE SDB advice) and it does not show anything wrong. Help and hints will be greatly appreciated as it is not much fun having to reconfigure the X system every time I start the machine :-( Albert P.S. Hello Arun You should have a look to the configuration file in /etc called rc.config. In this file should be a variable which controls the loading and starting of your SSL-Layer. I'm only using SuSE 5.1 so I'm sorry that I can't tell you the name of the variable. Air conditioner was turned off to remove potential brown out conditions, power spikes. Room temperature remained cool. In spite of all this system had become non-repsonsive between 4:00 AM and 4:15 am. The system behavior was a bit different. Consoles allow you to switch between them <alt><F?> and allow you work thru the login sequence, reporting past failed login attempts and new mail notification. However, It seems that the shell(bash) never gets started, since there is no prompt and lack of keyboard/mouse response in that console. All network access telnet, httpd, etc. is dead, however, the server still responds to pings. /var/log/messages shows the faxclean queue being checked ( There is no queue ) without fail. Since no answers to my problem loading applix seemed to be forthcoming from this group, I started searching the RedHat archive. I finally found a message stating that the problen was caused by mounting the CD with the "user" parameter. I edited this out of "fstab", re-mounted the CDrom, and the installation of applix worked. WHY? What changes will this cause? Why does Yast put it in "fstab"? Please, o guru's, instruct this Clueless Newbie! I have re-installed SuSE 5.1 on my "server" machine, this time with Apache SSL. The required packages (apassl-1.2.4-5 and ssleay-0.8.1-4) are installed in my system (at least YaST did not identify missing dependencies). At boot time I see the following messages w.r.t SSL Apache: .... other boot messages Starting SSL-WWW-SERVER Apache .... few other messages SSL disabled for server kaveri.intra.net:80 Starting INET server (inetd) .... other boot messages Kaveri is the name of my server machine and intra.net is the domain name for my intranet. I have named running on the same machine with complete data of the intra.net domain. I have also grepped the files in the /sbin/init.d to see which script is generating the "SSL disabled ..." message but come up with nothing. Executing /sbin/inet.d/apassl restart gives the following: Reload SSL Apache configuration SSL disabled for server kaveri.intra.net:80 Am I missing some configuration file that was not generated by YaST installation? I would appreciate if anybody in this list can help me understand the above error and run Apache SSL with SSL enabled successfully. I thought that the driver is very well tested and developed. I've never had any problems with 3com cards. But anyway, have you already tried to compile the driver into the kernel ? What produces more /var/log/boot.msg ??
