Per our previous discussion, here is a PR about efforts with Leap, TW with some hardware. I've not merged the PR as I would like to see what people think. I think this seems to fulfill the requirements we listed before was: news.opensuse.org is meant for the publishing of official news about the openSUSE Project and it distributions. Only articles about official packages in the distribution should be published. Articles written to increase awareness of a package and the advertising of home repositories is discouraged and may be subject to the removal of the article. And opensuse.cz? news The end goal could be that news.opensususe.org are using weblate for translations to other languages and the czech-translation simply available over the *.cz domain. Translated articles would be currently published on suseportal.cz as a short to medium term goal. Translation of news.o.o is not very handy. Better'd be if news.o.o would be some normal CMS (WP, Drupal, ...) with multilingual support... Vojta: Handling translations directly in news.o-o sounds like better option. cs.opensuse.org (wiki) lkocman: I'd like to avoid duplication of information on Czech wiki site This is more general problem --- function of wiki (vs. doc.o.o etc.) CMS vs gitops topic. We've agreed that gitops seems to be the future of publishing. opensuse.cz redirects directly to opensuse.org, users can click on the list-button which offers Czech language. So there is translation done via weblate, but it's not in use in case you get to portal via opensuse.cz. * openSUSE.cz doesn't have to be necessarily redirect but rather a landing page. Dan: that's basically get.opensuse.org Vojtech: opensuse.cz sounds like a better place to publish any sort of Czech content. Marek generally prefers mixed content about SUSE/openSUSE to ensure content "flow" and possible revenue. Who's the audience in this case? E.g. BFU will not read a sophisticated article about Czech deployment that might be otherwise very appreciated by storage SMEs. The only place which currently has some news in Czech language is: https://www.linkedin.com/showcase/suse-ceska-republika Lubos: It might make sense to reach out to people who publish articles on linkedin and see if they'd be interested in publishing articles there and collecting articles from our distributors (DNS) and sponsors. Either SUSE CZ or DNS could be the owner. We suppose that SUSE might not be interested in owning the domain/portal. Action items: Reach out to Doug regarding preference to use suseportal.cz to Czech content on *.opensuse.org (respective .cz). But then we lose the benefit of SUSE portal, promotes both SUSE and openSUSE content. Hi, looking at what was going on last night on openSUSE's Twitter account [1] I'd like to know, who has access to the social media accounts of this community. Indeed there is a list on the wiki but it does not look complete as @openSUSE is managed via Grouptweet. [2] The tweets from last night were nothing severe, imho. Yet there was a slightly irritation about them. That and as conjunction with the recently bad mouthing on CentOS [3] we need to talk about quality standards of community representation somehow. What is going on with openSUSE Twitter and Mastodon?!

Hey all, I have been seeing a disturbing trend in the openSUSE Twitter[1] and Mastodon[2] accounts, where we are sending messages tearing down the CentOS Project[3][4][5][6]. As an openSUSE contributor who spends *a lot* of time trying to use and promote openSUSE sensibly, I was disheartened by the lack of professionalism and support to our fellow project trying to develop a contributor-oriented community like we have for openSUSE Leap. The worst part about it is that the attacks are a "stone and glass house" kind of affair. openSUSE Leap has roughly the same lifespan as CentOS Stream, and contributions to CentOS Stream effectively work the same way as contributions to openSUSE Leap does. If people start teasing apart what we actually *offer* compared to CentOS Stream, they will be disappointed to find that we're not that much different from them. And the truth is, I couldn't be happier! If anything, we should be supporting that project, and drawing parallels to openSUSE Leap as a *model* of how CentOS Stream can be done. We've successfully integrated the enterprise and the community together in a stable, reliable, rock-solid platform. When openSUSE made the change to openSUSE Leap, nobody from Red Hat or Fedora said bad things about us. In fact, they've been generally supportive of our efforts. I have personally had conversations with a number of folks at Red Hat talking about the model of excellence that is openSUSE Leap. And now, Red Hat is taking a "Leap" of faith with CentOS and RHEL, and we're tearing them down for trying to be more open? That's utterly hypocritical and I'm disgusted. As a member of the openSUSE community, I'm disappointed and saddened by how we're not trying to support each other. Our friends at Red Hat and Fedora have supported us, this is our turn to support them. That doesn't mean we can't take the opportunity to talk about openSUSE Leap. There is plenty to love about openSUSE Leap for folks everywhere. But tearing down CentOS to promote openSUSE Leap is not the right way. This type of publicity will not do us any good. And that is not only because they 'attack' a fellow project. Two other things went wrong: 1. The posts do not adequately address the target audience: CentOS is used as a professional product, so if we want to communicate to users leaving the project, we should remain professional. Memes are not the way to go in that sense, upgrading and sharing our documentation *is*, however. We should keep that up. :) 2. Good marketing should always take a brand's strength as a point of departure. When addressing new users we should explain what Leap is *doing right*, not what other distributions are doing wrong. Looking forward: perhaps we can use the upcoming holidays to repair the hopefully minimal damage? For example by wishing everyone (in the FOSS/Linux community) happy holidays and a happy new year with a nice post. These are my two cents. I am relatively new to the openSUSE community, so please let me know if I forgot to take something in account. Best wishes, Milan

NO. We should get people to use openSUSE, or else they will use CentOS or Ubuntu. People who use openSUSE might consider buying SLES, people who use CentOS or Ubuntu most probably would not buy SLES. Rancher has a large user base running their products for free because there is no liability to pay. But many of Rancher's payed customers are from their free users, when they are happy with the product and need support. [opensuse-marketing] openSUSE Leap 15.3 kickoff

Hello team, I did have a talk with openSUSE Board this morning about the enrolment of Jump concept in Leap 15.3 and we all agreed that it would be quite handy to have a small kickoff session (1-2 hours based on attendance) on 4th of November let's say 17:30 CEST. 4th of November is the official Devel phase start for Leap 15.3. I'd like to have a short talk (perhaps supported with slides) about what to expect from 15.3 Release and present roadmap. And then have a coffee talk with whoever comes and whats to discuss e.g. contributions to Leap 15.3 or share any concerns. I have to say that I recently did not have very good experience with screensharing in meet.opensuse.org (low res compared to e.g. Teams) so I'd appreciate a different format, unless we can get that fixed. If we skip slides then meet.opensuse.org would be fine. Unless somebody has a better idea (mozilla hubs etc, big blue button ...)
