[opensuse-marketing] ownCloud article!

Heya all, It took a little longer than expected, but mirall [1] is now really part of openSUSE 12.1 (through the updates [2]). Awesomeness! Frank has just announced the startup of ownCloud Inc. [3], which will support ownCloud development, help market it and of course provide services and support for companies who need it. This makes ownCloud an even more promising solution for providing Free cloud storage! More awesomeness. I think we should give this some attention!!! So Klaas and myself wrote an article [4] which can now be released. It can still benefit from some updates and improvements but I have already scheduled it for Tuesday next week so you'll have to hurry :D I myself will be flying at 10KM over the Atlantic ocean by the time the article is to be released (on my way to Europe) so I won't be able to apply any review fixes you find. I hope somone else on the news team will be able to do that. Of course, if the article has to be delayed etc - again, someone on the news team will have to take care of that :D It might make sense to notify the press of this in advance. We could give them the preview link [4] on Monday morning, telling them that: - mirall [1] is now really part of openSUSE [2], one-click-install gets it for users in a quick and easy way - with the start of ownCloud Inc. [3] we're confident ownCloud will be a great long-term solution and you can count on us continuing to integrate it in openSUSE! But somebody else will have to send that mail to journalists @ os and let it through, I basically will have no internet from now until I arrive in Europe on December 21. Hi All, I think its the perfect oppurtunity for everyone to start working on openSUSE Magazine. We all have been interested but the idea got lost somewhere since none of us had enough time. One of the results of GCI was design for the magazine. While printing of the magazine maybe very expensive. I think we can create this magazine for inviting new sponsors to the project and also for the upcoming openSUSE Conference. So printing a few 100 copies and sending it across should not matter but thats upto Jos to decide. Please have a look at the design, I will soon set up it in the artwork repo for openSUSE and if somebody can do that for me, it will be great as I have bandwidth and speed limitations as of now. [opensuse-marketing] Magazine Idea

Hi , The idea for the magazine was originally mine and Stella's, as mentioned by Gregory in the post above. The project was delayed significantly and was dropped for the time being as the community was gearing up for the 12.1 release. Hence, we were unable to get many contributions, which ultimately lead to the project being dropped till the release was done with. I have not given permission for this project to be taken over by any anyone else nor has the project been dropped entirely so far. We hope to continue with it as soon as the elections are over so that we can get a better response. [opensuse-marketing] mirall now available

Friends, AFAIK mirall, the ownCloud client, is now available in our update channel so every openSUSE user should easily be able to get it on her box. AFAIK you marketings have planned to make some fuzz around that, I already saw/wrote an article for/with Jos. What's the status of that? Are you guys still interested to push that? How? [opensuse-marketing] Fruits of Google Code-in and yet more to sow

Ola All, During this code-in, we have done quite a bit of marketing jobs. Below there I am posting what has been done till now thanks to all the students and the mentors ( who may or may not be here ) but certainly we can make use of it. Now here are some lists of tasks that we have done but some bit. Its time for to either become a mentor or propose newer tasks. 1. A news article on openSUSE 12.1 2. Survey about openSUSE 3. 2 XKCD like Comics 4. Lots of Videos 5. Review of our wiki pages. 6. Magazine cover art 7. openSUSE Shop This is an awesome list and without you awesome guys it would not have been possible. So lets gear up, brainstorm and add more lists. There are 2 ways 1. Become a mentor and add the tasks yourself 2. Just mail it here and I will add it.
