[opensuse-marketing] Ambassadors wiki pages moved, some changes

As discussed in the last marketing IRC meeting, we'd like to make the list of ambassadors write protected so that only a few can edit it. Hi all, I'm going to share something... In the beginning like around 13 years ago, there was PLUG (Portuguese Linux Users Group), which counted with over 500 members in Portugal and SuSE (back then, I know it's spelled SUSE nowadays) had actually significant representation and was one of the biggest communities after Red Hat and Debian. PLUG was taken down to create LINUX.PT which was a failure since the early days and people just didn't committed. Though this years, linux.pt domain pointed to several ways and eventually no one cared anymore. I've spoken with the person who hold the control of it (infra-structure) and I know in person the sponsor where it is hosted. I'm going to gather soon with this people in order to revamp linux.pt and try to relaunch it, abandoning all the concepts from the past and make it what it should actually be, a platform for distributing information in Portuguese. For Fedora, I'm going to create a fedora.linux.pt host and point it to the official project wiki in European Portuguese. Thus providing a direct ramp from Fedora users to the Fedora Project, where our small representation will be used as a startup ramp to get people involved. We Portuguese will take care of our own and provide them the assistance that many times the project can't due to the work being developed and short manpower. I would like to drop a line and ask how openSUSE Marketing wants us (linux.pt) to deal with the openSUSE visitors. Should we make the same approach? Providing a ramp from linux.pt to opensuse.org ? Whatever you guys point as the way, we will comply with everything we can to help this. In addition, I'm going to approach our sponsor and ask for a 10Gigabit line connected directly to GIGAPIX (GIGA Portuguese Internet Exhcange), the main peering point for portuguese traffic. Currently our sponsor has 40Gigabits there, and he was willing to upgrade the current hardware from 2Gigabit (bonding) to 10Gigabit for hosting a Fedora mirror. So in addition we can also explore this if there is interest from openSUSE in having a powerful mirror in Portugal provided by linux.pt. My question is... how would openSUSE like to place a 'visitors card' in Portugal pointing to their international community? Hello, There are things I cant understand, we have more then 30 Ambassadors in India but only 1 Launch Party for 11.3. For 11.2 there was only 3. So now I am asking why is that so? Whats the problem in India that 30 people cant do more as 1 party? Or forgot u only to write ur launch events to http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_11.3_Launch_Party_Locations ?? [opensuse-marketing] [RFC] 2 ideas for activating our community - "openSUSE Awards" and "openSUSE Certification Program"

Recently, I came up with 2 ideas to attract and motivate contributers and activate our community. Although they are still rough drafts, I'd like to share them with list mates and hear your opinions. * openSUSE Awards This is literally aimed at recognizing significant contributions of community mates. - Every team will select and endorse candidates for 'Most Valuable Contributer (MVC) of the year' and 'Rookie of the year' from its members and introduce how and what they contribute the team. - If there is a local openSUSE community which has its own communication channel in your country and there are several Ambassadors, that community can select and endorse a candidate for 'Most Valuable Ambassador (MVA) of the year' and introduce how and what (s)he contribute your local community. - Everyone in our community can vote for those candidates. - Candidates who received the highest number of votes will be given awards as 'MVC of the year', 'Rookie of the year' and 'MVA of the year' - it would be great if they can get testimonials or commemorative gifts. ;-) * openSUSE Certification Program This program is aimed at certifying persons who have a fair amount of knowledge on openSUSE Project, Community and distribution. Note, it is not aimed at certificating technical skills on openSUSE or Linux. People who want to be certificated should take an exam such as Novell Certified Linux Engineer or LPIC. - Person who want to become an 'openSUSE Master' can take an exam. # Questions in the exam which I have in my mind are as follows: Q. Choose the correct mention on openSUSE board. a. The openSUSE board consists of one chairman who is appointed by Novell and 4 Non-Novell-Employee members who are elected by the community. b. The openSUSE board consists of one chairman who is appointed by Novell, 2 Novell-Employee members and 3 Non-Novell- Employee members. Board members except chairman are elected by the community. c. All the members of the openSUSE board are appointed by Novell. Q. What is the name of the mascot of openSUSE? a. Geego b. Susie c. Geeko Q. What is the default CUI tool for package management in openSUSE? a. yum b. zypper c. apt Q. What is the official domain for openSUSE? a. opensuse.com b. opensuse.net c. opensuse.org - Once (s)he get a passing score, (s)he will be certified as an 'openSUSE Master' and allowed to use 'openSUSE Master Emblem (I'm sure gnokii will design a good emblem for that. ;-))' on his(her) web site or name cards. As you may remember, all the Ambassador should have a fair amount of knowledge on openSUSE, but ATM there's no way to confirm that. I think this program can solve the problem. When someone want to become an Ambassador, (s)he has to take and get through the exam first. Note, this program is not only for Ambassadors but also for users who just want to be certificated as an 'openSUSE Master'. We don't need to set the difficulty level of the certification high - the main purpose of this program is to provide good opportunities to learn about openSUSE.
