I'm sitting here giving some final thoughts before our big day just 36 hours away... the launch of openSUSE 11.3. it's amazing how Time is a matter of perspective. In the weeks and months leading up to 11.3, it felt like the release day was so far away. And now that it's finally here, it feels like WOW! So sudden! They say in Marketing, you're supposed to measure your success by the numbers. But, I don't need numbers to measure the success of our Marketing Team. I already know we are a success. It's been an interesting year so far for us. We looked around, we learned, we continue to learn and we keep working hard. We didn't give up. We grew our team. We looked around for new opportunities to reach out to the world and be creative. Twenty-four hours a day, there was always someone in this big world working on something to promote openSUSE. You all cared! I can't begin to tell you how proud I am to be a part of this team. Soon, we will take a rest and catch our breath. You deserve it! And then get ready for whatever our next campaign will be. And we know there's definitely more to do. But I'm not worried. Because we're all together and no matter where in the world you are, you're a part of this great Team! Thank you all and let's kick some marketing butt! Moin, as openSUSE release is this Thursday 1200 UTC (2pm CEST, 8am EST, 5am MDT) I suggest we should all be on #opensuse-project at Freenode on Thursday to coordinate the release and relating stuff. The last marketing meeting, I - as current "ambassador contact" - was asked to write a nice welcome email to new ambassadors. The email should also explain a bit the ambassador program so that the new ambassadors know what they are signing up for. I'm appending below my first version, is there anything else you suggest for that email? Thanks, Andreas Hi, glad that you like to join openSUSE as an ambassador to promote openSUSE. I have a couple of questions for you: * What have you done already for openSUSE? * What are your plans for promoting openSUSE? * What do you need to start promoting openSUSE? * What do you think is the best kept secret of openSUSE? * Why do you love to do this? The ambassador program is currently pretty informal and we expect the ambassadors to organize themselves. So, please coordinate with other ambassadors on the opensuse-marketing mailing list: * share with them what you like to do * share what you did, e.g. what kind of event did you organize, how many people joined * share what you learned, explain what was great at your event, what you want to improve * create material that is usefull for you and other ambassadors as well Also, as an ambassador, you're the expert on your country/region, so please share on the opensuse-marketing mailing list a bit about the openSUSE and the FOSS community in your country/region, e.g. what are their needs. I'm Avinash from Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India and I'm intersted in openSUSE 11.3 but i cannot make it to the launch party in India, so can to tell me how I can get a DVD of openSUSE 11.3.
