Therefore I opened http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=177317 but none of the upstream developers can reproduce. Is my bug repdroducable by anybody else? Hallo. As you may know, nspluginwrapper allows to use 32-bit Flash inside 64-bit browser. Version 11.1 stays with nspluginwrapper version 1.0.0, as newer versions did not work well in openSUSE 11.1. But it does not support Flash 10 well (e. g. windowless mode is not supported). It seems, that version 1.1.10 may be a good candidate for update. Hi All, can somebody shed some light on $SUBJ? I am currently running a KDE4:Unstable installation on factory. I tried networkmanager-kde4 multiple times during the last weeks, and it surely is progressing nicely. However, I am still not able to connect to a wireless network and even worse, the moment I install the package, knetworkmanager(KDE3) stops working. Is there a bug/blog/whatever, where the state of networkmanager-kde4 can be tracked? I want to thank the SUSE folks for all their hard work in producing again another release. I am very well aware that this is an exhausting and enormous effort. I especially appreciate the added efforts that go into improving many of the packages that others contribute and therefor improving Linux for tthe community at large. One such example is the audio and other improvements with Impress from OpenOffice. Ubuntu falls far behind in this area. One question is, when I want to see all possible updates available. I notice that I can go to YaST -> Software management. Then click on Package -> All Packages (or "all in this list") seems to do that. But, I don't think I ever get the chance to review what is going to be updated. (I may be wrong by not proceeding far enough.) I haven't heard anyone who got compiz working out of the box with OS 11.1. I would suggest letting the installation delete .conf/compiz. Otherwise it doesn't seem to work at all. [opensuse-factory] "blank screen" screensaver doesn't work in gnome

I disabled power management for the screen and selected "blank screen" in gnome. Instead of launching the screensaver, the CPU starts eating a whole core and the screen is frozen on the same picture until I move the mouse. As a solution user must use xine-backend for phonon instead of gstreamer. My question is can be xine-backend be default on opensuse fresh install? i was asking before about 2.6.28, but it is not acceptable, as i understand. now kernel 2.6.27.8 is available and it contains my wireless card support. So a few questions: Will release contain latest 2.7.27 kernel? Will there be sources of it in the repo? Hi! Situation: - openSUSE 11.1 with Gnome desktop. - hardware: nvidia - nvidia drivers; downloaded and installed from download.nvidia.com (no package), version 177.x. When I try to set "Activate desktop effects", I've obtain a message like "You cannot have a supported hardware for this" (or something like this). Any idea about this? What is meaning of this: "User is not permitted: org.freedesktop.packagekit.system-update" ? This happens time after time with system tray updater icon. User is root. Who has authority to prevent root from action? The org.freedesktop.packagekit.system-update, I don't think so. I also did say there are good things about opensuse, please understand I only want to make things better, we are on the same team here and this subject is something I care a lot about and so do many others. I am not interested in ranting about this, I only want to fix the issue but to me it seems as though either no-one is listening or I do not know how to raise this as an issue properly or perhaps where to raise it. For 11.1 though we let the distro stay in beta longer and reduced the RC time to compensate, to me that means more bugs will get in and less will get out, if we allow beta's to continue for a longer period of time, it shouldn't be at the expense of the RC's where we really throw polish in, (again in my opinion). So I guess the question there was which is more important, the release schedule or the quality of the release? It seems to me that the release schedule is getting more attention than the latter. So, does the community get to vote on how this schedule should be? Who makes the decision of the 6 months release schedule? If we are stuck with 6 months how could we do it better? Can we have clearer guidelines to show what 'shipstoppers' should be? Can we broaden the scope of a shipstopper? Honestly, if I'm the only one that thinks that this is an issue I'm happy to never bring it up again, but I'd bet I'm not. [opensuse-factory] Grub fails after changing boot order in Yast in RC1

Hello, I'm under pressure an not having time to post this to bugzilla, so maybe some of you can confirm the following: I installed oS 11.1 RC1 on an eeePC 1000h with a SD card. The system runs fine, after setting KNetworkmanager explicitely to WPA1 & WPA2/RSN and only TKIP. After the first update, a new kernel was installed, and as I rebooted, grub came up with a selection of opensuse and Windows, where the default was set to Windows. Therefore I booted openSuse, entered the Yast bootmanager configuration changed the boot order back to openSUSE. After this, I couldn't boot anymore, because grub was not found on the disk ('No operation system on HD'). Reinstalling oS brought back the full functionality. Hello to everybody, I'm on opensuse 11.1rc and I see at everyboot the old-style greish garbage when X is starting before the dm is loaded. This because the option -br is not passed. If I add it in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager I get a much more accetable black intro screen, like in most modern distribution. Is this intentional for some reason that I don't know? If not it would be nice to get rid of that ugly grey screen before 11.1 final. [opensuse-factory] OpenSUSE Factory updates

I know I saw a post which explained that the Factory updates would be less frequent now that there are builds going on for RC1 (or something along that line). I'm new to Factory so I don't know what the previous frequency was but I'm only seeing new packages for Factory about once a week. Is this the expected frequency? I'm not complaining; I just thought that I'd be able to do a significant amount of testing leading up to the release date but at this frequency my testing is pretty much irrelevant. There would only be 2 more Factory "releases" before the official launch so I don't feel that I'm contributing in any significant way to the testing effort. I have a few bug tickets and at least one that has a posted solution: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=434598 but I have no clue how to test it as there are no updates for Factory at this time. If I'm reading the bug report correctly, the only way to test would be to have the source for that package, apply the patch and recompile? If that's the way it is then that's OK but I would suggest however that having nightly builds of these things available would result in a larger testing audience. I'm hoping someone can clue me in on how to be a more effective tester. In all development releases since beta2 (maybe even earlier) backspace on my keyboard dont work russian keyboard layout. I think this issue not only about russian keyboard layout, but all others cases with two or more keyboard layouts. I've tried to ask for SHIP_STOPPER, but there is not much comments on bug and was rejected. I think it was happened because small nuber of peoples who report bugs use more than one keyboard layout. When I ask who have this issue in factory openSUSE on one of russian linux forums I found that all have this issue, and some peoples comment out bnc432627 with their experience and provide more information. Also I've found that the same issue reproduces in 11.0 with kde3.5 when I install XOrg 7.4 from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_11.0/ If bug will go to release how I should promote or just recommend system where even keyboard dont work? What I should say to peoples who ask why it happened and what can be done? Hi! I've installed opensuse 11.1 rc (1/2?) updated past Wednesday 3, between 9 or 9:30 AM. The desktop is a Gnome 2.24, and the bzflag game is the incorporated in this release. When I try to play to bzflag, all run fine... less the sound. No sound for this game, but yes for systems' sounds. I've included my user in all "pulse*" groups, but without any result. I've found why this issue happens. It is old bugfix, made as hack in file /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.common there are lines: # # Fix keyboard layout on newer Xservers (Bug #368673, Bug #433983) # xdpyinfo | grep -q "X.Org version: 6.9.0" || \ setxkbmap -print | xkbcomp - $DISPLAY when I commnet out it or remove, all works pretty good, no more strange keymaps, all keys works. Strace update (broken). ....................... After giving password, updater tells that I can't do update, and advice to use YOU. Used YOU and it complains that it can't satisfy dependencies. I selected not to update. Later, updater has the same update, but this time it updates without asking password. Hi, I've got an Acer laptop, AMD Sempron, 512MB ram, SiS chipset (including the IDE controller). The 11.1 beta 5 and RC 1 behaved absolutely identically in all that follows: After a fresh install, I get the following messages: blogd: can not open pty/tty pair: No such file or directory Trying manual resume from /dev/disk/by-id/ata-IC25N080ATMR04-0_MRA401K7K7Y9DH-part3 (swap) This is followed by some USB messages and then: Waiting for device /dev/disk/by-id/ata-IC25N080ATMR04-0_MRA401K7K7Y9DH-part2 (/) to appear: ...... not found Want me to fall back to /dev/disk/by-id/ata-IC25N080ATMR04-0_MRA401K7K7Y9DH-part2? (Y/n) If I select 'no', I go immediately to the shell. If I select 'yes', it searches again and then dumps me to the shell. modprobe -l lists the following ide modules: ide-core.ko pci/sis5513.ko pci/ide-pci-generic.ko ide-disk.ko I've tried both the beta 5 and RC1. Neither would install with images enabled. Both installs generated no error messages if installed without images. Originally, my Linux partitions were in an extended partition. I eliminated that and now they are primary partitions. I've tried installing everything to a single partition and that didn't help. I tried using the default kernel (instead of the PAE), but that didn't help either. I get the feeling that the kernel is not properly recognizing my drives. Are there any kernel flags that I could try? Hello, Just tested the RC2 DVD (I work for a Novell partner) on a Core2Duo machine. I guess, I should have tested it earlier and not concentrate strictly on PPC... - installation from images (which is the default setting) has serious troubles: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=456337 For the rest I don't have now time to bugzilla, maybe in the evening... - nvidia binary drivers installed, 3D works fine, but Compiz can't be enabled on KDE4 (Desktop settings says, that Composite and Damage extensions are missing, which is true, as Composite is disabled in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf generated by sax2) - the machine reboots while coming back from hibernation (Intel G965 chipset, nVidia binary driver was not yet enabled, when tested). This led to a broken file system and a broken KDE4 desktop (only the START menu stayed in place, the rest moved or disappeared) - I installed to an extended partition (/dev/sda5). The default boot manager configuration is broken, as grub is only installed to an extended partition. This results in an unbootable system. It works fine when MBR is also used. Hello, I just installed RC1, and one annoying thing occurred to me: On the kdm login screen the "Session Type" and "Menu" menus are nearly invisible (thin white characters on a light green background). Do others also see this problem, or might it be caused by a miscalibrated monitor? I just updated beta 5 via zypper. All seems to have gone well, but I noticed there's STILL a "show stopper" for a LOT of users with Intel video. Performance is the pits.....pure and simple. OpenGL screen savers don't run properly....often with a small widow of the same image super imposed on the full image, and they can still lock up the 'puter. Because of this, I don't dare install RC1 on a desktop with a nVidia video card for fear of what will happen. There are driver and/or "X" problems that must get fixed before release. wmv format movie clips "stutter".......not smooth due to poor performance.
