Untranslated string in KMail

Hello everyone! I was wondering if any of you are seeing the following string untranslated in KMail/Tumbleweed: "Note: This HTML message may contain external references to images etc. For security/privacy reasons external references are not loaded. If you trust the sender of this message then you can load the external references for this message by clicking here." This string comes from messagelib (libmessageviewer6.po) and yes, it is translated into Spanish. I have messagelib-lang installed and the corresponding .mo is there: /usr/share/locale/es/LC_MESSAGES/ libmessageviewer6.mo Perhaps there are other strings/languages affected. All I have seen so far is that messagelib.spec has %find_lang %{name} --all- name without --with-html (the string is in htmlmessagepart.html). I have added --with-html to the spec, recompiled it and installed the rpms without luck; I am still seeing the untranslated string. Any suggestions? Merry Christmas! Ciao, -- Javier Llorente

Xfce 4.20 has been released on Tumbleweed

The new release is a major release which will bring new features, but also several bugfixes. Disabling /dev/fb0 on TW

tl;dr: Disable fbdev userspace interfaces on TW Hi, the upcoming Linux kernel v6.6 will contain the option to disable fbdev userspace interfaces in the kernel configuration. [1] I intent to enable this and thereby switch off /dev/fb0 et al. The tracker bug is boo#1212947. [2] * Why? The old fbdev subsystem is an endless source of bugs. For example, we recently had an out-of-bounds access in the fbdev emulation, where userspace could write beyond the end of the framebuffer memory. [3] Fbdev is under-maintained. I've been doing improvements in recent kernel releases, but only where it benefits the DRM subsystem. Disabling fbdev userspace interfaces will also help weeding out any programs that still contain hard dependencies on them. * What changes? Enabling the new kernel option disables all fbdev userspace interfaces. These are * the device files, such as /dev/fb0 * the sys files under /sys/class/graphics/fb[0-9]+ * /proc/fb * What are the effects on userspace programs? Userspace applications run on the desktop via Wayland or X. There will be no change to them. Xorg and Wayland compositors run on DRM interfaces. A few programs run on SDL, which has no dependency on fbdev either. Any fbdev support in these mid-layer components should be disabled as well. There's one known affected program: TW's text-mode installer can use the tool fbiterm to display CJK symbols during installation. This comes from a time when some low-end systems where not able to boot graphics installation. fbiterm has been unmaintained for >15 years and is ready for retirement. But there's no good drop-in replacement. I propose to simply remove fbiterm and let the graphics installer handle CJK. * What about the framebuffer console? The kernel-provided framebuffer console does not change. The kernel will still show the regular console. Userspace interfaces in /sys/class/graphics/fbcon are still available. Other than btop oddity, the nvidia G04 driver works fine patched for 6.12. The 470 (G05) will need the same patch (different line offsets). I don't have any hardware installed to test the 470 driver. Any thoughts on 1 or 2 above, let me know. Also, I'm not sure who builds for the official openSUSE Nvidia repo, e.g. https://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/tumbleweed but the 390 and 470 (legacy) drivers do need to be patched (or at least checked verify no patch is needed) for each kernel version update. Laptops with that hardware are stuck until a patch is provided. I don't mind helping and I usually have the patch worked out when the kernel is released due to also patching for the Arch AUR 390xx driver -- but I need help with all the .spec caveats for the various Leaps, etc.. -- David C. Hi, This month, I declared https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Reproducible_openSUSE/Part1 - the Minimal part of the R-B-OS (sponsored by the NLNet foundation) completed (minus the VM image) and am pretty close to complete https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Reproducible_openSUSE/Part2 (not fully satisfied with the VM image, but that was out of scope here anyway) I started to use https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:rb-checker/notes for online note-taking about found issues and my rb-checker bot now checks all submissions that go to Factory through "adi" staging projects. This already found the first two regressions. And I sent many nice patches, including 3 toolchain patches that fix multiple packages: * https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/1230042 scons * https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/1233216 cargo-packaging * https://github.com/openSUSE/hpc/pull/12 suse-hpc I also did two more test runs over the ring1 packages and found two new surprising classes of issues that broke reproducibility. 1. .changes file entries with certain timezones (WEST, IST, UCT) were mis-parsed by osc build on one machine. Replacing these with UTC was easy enough. 2. packages such as atftp, ppp, texlive and sendmail use the new system-user-foo packages, but their user-id differed between OBS and local (no-preinstallimage) builds and was embedded into cpio headers. Maybe it was already fixed in sysuser-tools after my fork? I've branched, patched for the 6.12 kernel and built the nvidia-gfxG04 driver so I can upgrade my Tumbleweed install on my laptop: https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/drankinatty:/branches:/X11… The problem is that in the past, the build of the x11-video-nvidiaG04 packages would be triggered by rebuild of the driver, e.g. nvidia-computeG04-32bit-390.157-48.3.x86_64 nvidia-computeG04-390.157-48.3.x86_64 nvidia-glG04-32bit-390.157-48.3.x86_64 nvidia-glG04-390.157-48.3.x86_64 x11-video-nvidiaG04-32bit-390.157-48.3.x86_64 x11-video-nvidiaG04-390.157-48.3.x86_64 This may be trivial and a result of the fight I have with the web-interface for build-service each time - or - the X11:Drivers:Video of Stefan's I branched to update may not trigger the build of that subpackage. My question is how do I trigger the build of the x11-video-nvidiaG04 packages in buildservice? The x11-video-nvidiaG04.spec is included as part of the nvidia-gfxG04 package. However, in the past, there was a separate build-server package for generating the x11-video-nvidiaG04 packages. So can I: 1) trigger the build through the existing spec in the nvidia-gfxG04 package, or do I, 2) go re-branch an old version of that package (to work through the "bad link: conflict in xxxy" errors -- and then just trigger a rebuild in that subpackage? -- David C. openSUSE:Factory - Build fail notification

Dear Package maintainers and hackers. Below package(s) in openSUSE:Factory have had problems for at least 4 weeks. We tried to send out notifications to the configured bugowner/maintainers of the package(s), but so far no fix has been submitted. This probably means that the maintainer/bugowner did not yet find the time to look into the matter and he/she would certainly appreciate help to get this sorted. - python-yacron: Fails to build Unless somebody is stepping up and submitting fixes, the listed package(s) are going to be removed from openSUSE:Factory.
