[opensuse-factory] How to use system if even keyboard dont work right? (bnc 432627)
In all development releases since beta2 (maybe even earlier) backspace on my keyboard dont work russian keyboard layout. I think this issue not only about russian keyboard layout, but all others cases with two or more keyboard layouts. I've tried to ask for SHIP_STOPPER, but there is not much comments on bug and was rejected. I think it was happened because small nuber of peoples who report bugs use more than one keyboard layout. When I ask who have this issue in factory openSUSE on one of russian linux forums I found that all have this issue, and some peoples comment out bnc432627 with their experience and provide more information. Also I've found that the same issue reproduces in 11.0 with kde3.5 when I install XOrg 7.4 from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_11.0/ If bug will go to release how I should promote or just recommend system where even keyboard dont work? What I should say to peoples who ask why it happened and what can be done? I think openSUSE will loose a lot of users, who use more than one keyboard layout. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Nope. Definitely works for me with KDE4 and en,sk layouts.

I don't think so. I would guess almost all people with non-english natural language use at least two layouts. The problem is more likely to be with your specific setup, otherwise more people would report the bug => can'be shipstopper.

Yes, there's quite a lot of comments (c#27 and c#29 seem to be most interesting). So it would seem that most people use the KDE's layout handling (which works for them) instead of fiddling with X's.

Tell them to use KDE's keyboard setup - an easy workaround. Nevertheless, i hope the bug will be eventually resolved, perhaps there is a good reason why KDE maintainers made no progress with it so far. - -- cheers, jano Ján Kupec YaST team - ---------------------------------------------------------(PGP)--- Key ID: 637EE901 Fingerprint: 93B9 C79B 2D20 51C3 800B E09B 8048 46A6 637E E901 - ----------------------------------------------------------------- -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.9 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with SUSE - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iEYEARECAAYFAkku4YcACgkQgEhGpmN+6QFd6wCeM7R8iR7HS8nzR0UlwJrw3HLd B+MAn1/jcPX93ITr9nKAx5+wG4Zy2RGz =AzPL -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

No, we don't. Not two _keyboard_layouts. The keyboard is the same regardless of the language we type. My keyboard is Spanish, and I use the exact same keyboard in Spanish and English. Same physical keyboard, same layout, same keys. What we change is the dictionary, the application language, things like money symbol or date format... but not the keyboard. Except if you also change the alphabet, as the OP is doing, I guess. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. How xorg 7.4 can be 6.9.0?
In my case, see below, "rpm -qf <file>" is how you find out. # rpm -qf /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.common xorg-x11-7.4-8.16 Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ...
