[opensuse] motherboard search engine

Hello: Sorry for this offtopic question but this is the only mailing list with high traffic I am subscribed to. Is there a search engine/page for PC motherboards where I can find motherboards by properties, eg. floppy, serial port, parallel port, IDE port support? Currently it is hard to find a motherboard that supports these devices and browsing specifications one by one for all modern motherboards would be tedious. I found one page at: http://www.motherboards.org/mobot/ but it can not search for the abovementioned device(s) support. [opensuse] FTP 425 Errors with openSUSE

I'm puzzled. I have multiple CentOS5, CentOS6, openSUSE 11.4 and openSUSE 12.1 boxes behind the same firewall. The CentOS boxes can make FTP connections; but attempting to use FTP from either version of openSUSE always fails [two 12.1 boxes, one 11.4 boxes]. I've disabled the local machine firewalls, verfified the conntrack_ftp module is loaded on the network's firewall [an iptables box, and the other CentOS boxes work anyway...], etc... I just can get FTP to work from these boxes and I'm stumped. [opensuse] Multihomed network install

Hi list, I'm trying to (re)install a multihomed server with many interfaces with SLES (in this case, although my curiosity also applies to openSUSE 12.1). I'm using a network install, specifying network parameters and Autoyast XML file on the kernel command line. Using the "netdev" parameter, I'm able to specify which interface to use, but the problem is that interfaces don't get the same names across reboots and only one has connection to the install server. I have to try several times until it boots with the correct name/interface association. Is there a way to specify the interface by MAC address instead of by name? I have been using Navit as a live moving map driven by current locations provided by a GPS receiver. In fact, after a bit of fiddling, it works surprisingly well as a part of a larger measurement system, sharing the GPS with other interested apps. The use of Open Street Map data, and not requiring a connection to the internet to make live maps is really great. In fact, working without an I want to add a feature that, I fear, is not really what Navit wants to do. So I am exploring alternatives. I need to add the ability to have a planned route shown and that, as components of the route are completed, are indicated as being completed. In addition, the operator should be able to manipulate this status. How this is to be done is not carved in stone. I know that this is possible in the old ESRI ArcPad application. But I do not think this is supported on Linux anymore. An earlier version was written in Java and could be used. That is no longer available. So I am exploring open source alternatives. Are there any decent GPS live map applications that anyone is running on openSUSE that have this flexibility? [opensuse] RecordMyDesktop Working and not working

Hi, I am a strange position. I have couple of PC which I am running openSUSE and Ubuntu. I create screen casts for my stories and under openSUSE there is a strange situation. When I run recordmydesktop under opneSUSE 12.1 on my Dell xps 1330 it works great. But when I try to run it on my main PC which has Nvidia card it doesn't work. It hangs. I tried running it on a fresh install on the same PC without nvidia drivers still it did not run. It runs well under Ubuntu. What can be the cause and what is the solution? [opensuse] cannot see folders or accounts in kmail

Hi everyone, I am using OS 12.1 and kontact 4.7.2. I normally am using thunderbird but I had a working kmail setup in 11.4 with the corresponding version. I upgraded to openSUSE 12.1. some time ago. Today for the first time I tried to open up kmail, and upon migration I got the error "failed to fetch the resource collection" and it would terminate before allowing me to do anything. so I saw on another thread to delete the /home/george/.local/share/akonadi file for a calendar problem. I did that, and kmail started up fine. I set up to reconfigure my accounts, I don't need them to be exactly the same as was before, and so I configured them and they all connect to the server. However nothing at all shows up in the left side window of kmail that should show the accounts and folders. I have 2 imap accounts and 2 pop3 accounts. On the imap accounts, I have "show serverside subscription" checked, but if I click on the box to show which subscriptions to show, the list is blank for both accounts. [opensuse] Help with keyboard and mouse

Hi All I have a strange problem and I'm hoping that someone else has experienced this or knows what's going on and how to resolve it. At the kdm login the mouse is immobile or invisible and the keyboard seems unresponsive. However, if I type in my password and then change to a console screen and then back, the password is entered. The login progresses a bit and then seems to pause. By switching to a console screen and then back again the login continues to completion. That is what happens. I make key presses and or mouse movements when I switch to a console screen and then back the key press or mouse movement is executed. If I switch to a console, the keyboard works fine. It started happening with opensuse 11.4 so I decided to upgrade to 12.1 thinking that it would resolve itself but it still continues. In fact, I could only complete the installation by switching to and from console screens. I did the installation as a new install and not an upgrade. Any thoughts, anyone? [opensuse] 12.1 does not automatically start KDE

In the mean time happy with 12.1. Kmail working and no big problems. But since three days after reboot I end up at level 3 and have to enter my name and password. After that a startx will find me in KDE and I am up to use it. Found a lot of info in .xsession-errors but as I am no expert I would appreciate help to solve my problem. A Google search for this library brings up a list of hits of pornographic sites (and who could be surprised?). Hi all. I'm hoping someone else may have come across this and found a solution. I wanted to convert my digikam setup from sqlite to mysql. Digikam includes a database migration tool so I; -Set up a user for digikam in mysql -Created 2 empty databases as required by digikam (one called digikam, one called thumbnails) -Granted global priveleges to the digikam user (UGLY! but it won't work otherwise - digikam complains that "CREATE TRIGGER" priveleges are not granted if you only grant database-level privleges) :-( -Configured digikam to talk to the correct mysql database -Clicked on "Test DB Connection" in Digikam and got "Database connection test successful". So far so good. Unfortunately, when trying to use the database migration tool, I get the an error message: "Error while creating the database schema". Go into mysql and confirm that "show tables;" in each database returns an empty result, so nothing has been created in the databases. OK, maybe digikam wants to create the databases itself..."drop database <dbname>;" - digikam then complains "Error opening target database". Recreate the databases, double check priveleges, still the same result. Running Digikam 2.3.0, KDE 4.6.5 on oS 11.4 with mysql 5.1.53. Has anyone gotten this to work recently? TIA, Rodney. All, Until recently all cinelerra updates have gone fine. With the present update in packman, there is a dependency issue with mjpegtools that is significant. [opensuse] curious studiowriter problem

Hello, I just got a curious problem. Some time ago I used studio writer to write a network install cd to an usb flash key. Nothing wrong in this (I could install a netbook with it). Just now I needed this key to hold scanned images. My HP all in one can scan and store directly on such a key. Of course the printer do not know other than fat system. I * removed the only partition on the key with fdisk. YaST can't (because parted can't). This is a small partition, the cd image itself. then I created a new 900Mb partition (it's a 1Gb key) with yast and still with yast formatted it with fat. I could with no problem use it on the HP printer/copier and write there my jpegs I can read them on the printer (if ever I wanted to print them) But if I plug the device in my 12.1, I get two devices, one "generic usb", the other openSUSE-Net and the last mounts and shows the net cd file list (and the file are there, I can read them, at least part of them - not tried all) To read my images, I had to umount this net iso and manually mount /dev/sde1 - after that it reads without problem in Dolphin. looks like there are two content tables (and the images are small, so most disk sectors are not overwritten) I wonder why I had this result. [opensuse] How to enable sound in Gnome installed via KDE?

Hi, I am using openSUSE 11.4 with KDE desktop (default). Now from Yast, I installed two other desktops - GNOME and XFCE. The GNOME version is 2.32 to which I can login. But in the GNOME as well as XFCE desktops, I am not getting any login sounds. I am able to play the songs, but the login sound is not coming. I checked in GNOME -> Menu -> Control Center -> Sound but not able to resolve the issue.
