[opensuse] zypper: Unknown checksum type: 8: sha256

Hi, With openSUSE 11.1, I'm using the JPackage repositories. Since last night, that runs into errors, since JPackage seems to have switched to a different checksum type. The errors that I get are like Error building the cache: 'repo2solv.sh' '-o' '/shared/suse-11.1/zypp/cache/solv/java4-free/solv' '/shared/suse-11.1/zypp/cache/raw/java4-free' Unknown checksum type: 8: sha256 Skipping repository 'java4-free' because of the above error. Is this a known problem resp. incompatibility of different rpm-md repositories? Any solution or workarounds? Maybe update to a newer zypper from SBS? [opensuse] OT: enabling addon product in SLES11

Hi all. I have a pretty stupid question. I need to add/activate HAE to an existing sles11 server. The server is running ocfs2 from HAE, and support wants me to make sure it's fully patched because of some issues. I have a license code for HAE but I can't figure out how to add the darn thing so I can download/install the latest updates from NCC. Can anyone tell me how to do this? I googled unsuccessfully. Seems more apropos for systems with batteries but appears to be suitable for a desktop also... Added in the new theme but I had tried to turn off the DPMS for the Performance theme and that did not work... I will experiment with my new theme and see if it makes a difference, again with all options turned off so as to leave the screen display running forever... I also have another idea... James suggestion to use the two xset commands worked! So with my new theme I will also set up a script to execute these two commands also and see if the combo of switching to my new theme and having that script automagically executed does the trick... [opensuse] Permissions problem with Joomla

Hi, I've recently installed Joomla, a CMS website design program. I have successfully setup the LAMP server, and copied the Joomla files to a subdirectory under /srv/www/. The installation ran without difficulty, and I can login to the localhost website as admin. But when I try to edit stuff, Joomla tells me that its configuration files and all the other files, such as *.css are unwriteable. I have changed the ownership of the joomla directory to myself and group users, so now all directories in that tree have permissions 755 and files have permissions 644. As my user, I can create a file in kate and save it to the /srv/www/joomla directory, so it is writeable by me. So why can't Joomla admin, running in an instance of (any) web browser in my userspace, write to its own files? [opensuse] Change keyring password

Running openSuSE 11.2 on two of my computers (one at work that was upgraded from 11.1, and one at home that was a fresh install of 11.2.) Recently I changed my login password, but now when I log in, I get prompted for my keyring password, which is still my old one. In the past I could change the password with seahorse, but I don't see the option on 11.2 anymore. Any ideas? Thanks! [opensuse] 4.4.2 (KDE 4.4.2) "release 231" - Font Install does NOT show installed fonts?

Will, Dotan, Sven, Just installed 4.4.2 (KDE 4.4.2) "release 231" and using the Font Installer, I was surprised that when I clicked on the 'System Fonts' or 'Local Fonts' no fonts were shown as installed. I had 4 new fonts to install and after I had installed them, only those fonts were shown. That's not right?? The system know the fonts are there because I had a 5th font that was already installed and the installer properly recognized the duplicates. What to check? File it? novell or bugs.kde? -- David C. [opensuse] Custom menu item for starting application

Hello opensuse(a)opensuse.org! I need to create an own menuitem into Gnome/Kde application menu for logged user only. When I copy myapp.desktop file into ~/.local/share/applications/ then Gnome or KDE show my new item in "Others" or "Lost and Found". Of course I know how to manipulate ~/.config/menus/applications.menu file to get my menu item to the position I want, but I want to avoid of manipulation of existing applications.menu file, but rather I want to add my own myapp.menu file which will be worked out and it moves my icon to the right submenu (Office). I've read to copy myapp.menu file into ~/.config/menus/application-merged/ but it doesn't help. PS: I will create the requested files from installation script file which is started in context of logged user, because the application is installed into home directory. [opensuse] How could I keep in sync email on two computers?

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I want to be able to read some of my email, downloaded to my desktop machine, on my laptop, while off-line. The current setup is that the desktop machine donwloads emails from several accounts using fetchmail, processes it with amavis and spamassassin, and delivers it into several folders using procmail. I would like to copy some of those folders to a laptop in order to read them in my free time, while away from home and internet. I have tried "mailsync". The 1st problem with this is that read emails on one machine are not marked read in the other. Thunderbird keeps indexes (foldername.msf) which are not (AFAIK) synced. Or, if using (Al)pine, the marks are kept as some header modification inside the mbox file; but as the msgids are the same on both sides, the changes are not synced. I though of solving this by keeping two folders, one of them for "read" email, and move there each email after being read (a bit of a nuisance, but I can do that). But aparently mailsync doesn't keep good track of this, and replaces the "deleted" emails in the laptop with copies from the main machine. This won't do. Unless I'm doing things wrong (which I might, the documentation is not very complete), I can't use this method. Yesterday I discovered "offlineimap". The description is very promissing: Summary : OfflineIMAP - Powerful IMAP/Maildir synchronization and reader support Description : OfflineIMAP is a tool to simplify your e-mail reading. With OfflineIMAP, you can: * Read the same mailbox from multiple computers, and have your changes (deletions, etc.) be automatically reflected on all computers * Use various mail clients to read a single mail box * Read mail while offline (on a laptop) and have all changes synchronized when you get connected again * Read IMAP mail with mail readers that do not support IMAP * Use SSL (secure connections) to read IMAP mail even if your reader doesn't support SSL * Synchronize your mail using a completely safe and fault-tolerant algorithm. (At least I think it is!) * Customize which mailboxes to synchronize with regular expressions or lists. * Synchronize your mail two to four times faster than with other tools or other mail readers' internal IMAP support. This morning I read the manual (/usr/share/doc/packages/offlineimap/manual.html), which appears to be written for version 4, while the rpm is version 6. It is indeed interesting, but there is a big snag, probably unsurmountable in my case: it does the syncing not against the desktop machine, but against a common imap server that all the computers use, ie, the ISP imap server. This, again, will not do. What I would, then, need, is an imap server in my desktop machine, but one that serves the mail structure under /home/USER/Mail/LotOfmboxFiles as an imap server. Without that I can not use that "offlineimap" thing. Perhaps not even then, it could mess the handling by procmail. Do you have more ideas I could try? O:-) - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
