Wow, wow, and... wow! I've been using SuSE / OpenSuSE since about 1996. I've tried Knoppix, Redhat, Fedora, Ubuntu, heck - even PC-BSD and Desktop-BSD. Through it all SuSE / OpenSuSE has been my favorite. I run two laptops and my desktop at home with 11.1; I run my primary workstation at work on 11.1 64 bit. I primarily use Ubuntu as a rescue system. See, we have many profs at this University that think it's their right to have admin access on the machines in their offices - Which usually means they hose those windows systems pretty quickly and require re-imaging. I don't know how many times I've had to boot Ubuntu from a USB stick, pop in a blank DVD, fire up K3B, and burn a copy of their profile prior to reimaging. I just wish it was as easy to create a bootable OpenSuSE USB stick =( I use OpenSuSE 11.1 at work to frequenty rdesktop to windows machines and to vnc and ssh to macs. All in all, I love Linux and OpenSuSE in particular. I wish I had the talent to be one of the people producing it - I think they are doing an awesome job. I understand that Linux, as a whole, is a developing technology - which is hard to remember when, for the most part, my Linux systems have been as reliable or more reliable than any windows or OS X system that I've had to work on. [opensuse] HP Pavillion dv2872br getting very hot

Hi all, I have a HP Pavillion dv2872br notebook witch is getting extremely hot when I encode some mp3 (100% CPU usage), and it's fan is never in full speed (it's not as noisy as when using a lot of CPU in Vista). Is it possible to correct the fan speed in Opensuse 11.1 x86-64? Please help me!! [opensuse] TomTom in Windows XP running in VirtualBox

Hi, Has anyone succeeded in getting TomTom to be recognized in Windows XP running in VirtualBox? It is recognized as a USB mass storage unit, but it won't start. (Code 10). USB sticks and all that work OK. TomTom people (surprise!) know nothing. Opensuse 11.0, VBox 2.4.4, Windows XP SP3. On openSUSE 11.1, with: - KDE 4.2 or newer, - the NVIDIA proprietary driver - KWIN as the window manager Is there any need to enable: - Compiz (e.g., /repositories/X11:/Compiz/openSUSE_11.1/) - Xgl (e.g., /repositories/X11:/XGL/openSUSE_11.1_KDE4_Factory/) I would think they are not needed. [opensuse] Logitech Clearchat Wireless headset volume issues...

I just connected a new Logitech Clearchat Wireless headset to my main system (running openSUSE 11.1). Theoretically this headset should work "out of the box"... and it kind of does.. but I'm having some issues that basically make this headset unusable in the long run.... The headset was immediately identified when I connected it and turned it on, but: 1. There is no mic volume control in any mixer... KMix, alsamixer etc etc. This is an issue because the mic volume is too low (ie something like 2 on a scale of 100), and needs to be set much much higher. 2. The sound only works on the left side (as if the balance is set 100% to the left). None of the various alsa utils provide balance controls for the speaker output on this headset. I've gone into YaST > Hardware > Sound, and added/tinkered with the USB Generic sound card. This works to raise lower the speaker volumes on the headset, but there are no mic volumes or balance controls there either. As a control, I have a Logitech Clearchat USB headset (the wired one) and it's working 100%, with proper mic volumes/controls etc. Any ideas? If you use htop you can tell it to show individual threads (you probably can with top too but htop is a little easier imho). [opensuse] mounting a Solaris UFS disk on a SuSE 11.1 system

I am in the process of converting my home data server from Solaris to SuSE 11.1. I have asked on the OT list for some opinions of favorite filesystems and have already got some answers. The one really important thing that I still don't know how to do is mount the Solaris UFS data disk on the SuSE system in order to copy the data to the SuSE system. I have done a little Google searching and have found a few ideas but each is different and am not sure which (if any) is right. Does anyone here have experience with mounting a Solaris UFS disk on a Linux system? If so, what is the correct mount string to do it?
