[opensuse] SLES 10 SP1 to SLES 10 SP3 upgrade

I just recently saw that SLES 10 SP3 was released. My employer currently ships SLES 10 SP1 with our product. I was assigned the task to test the upgrade process to SLES 10 SP2, but seeing as SLES 10 SP3 just came out I am interested in seeing what it would take to upgrade from SLES 10 SP1 to SLES 10 SP3. After downloading a copy of the SLES 10 SP3 DVD, I read through the README to see which path of upgrade that it recommends--using the DVD as the installation source. I assumed it would be one of the following upgrade paths: 1. SLES 10 SP1 -> SLES 10 SP2 -> SLES 10 SP3 2. SLES 10 SP1 -> SLES 10 SP3 After looking through the README, I saw the following section: > Important Note: > --------------- > After completing any form of update, look at the contents of the file > /var/adm/rpmconfigcheck. This file contains a list of configuration files > that could not be updated automatically. Usually this means the installed > version was modified. These files must be checked and the configurations > adjusted manually. > > Online update from SLES10 GA or SLES10 SP1 to SLES10 SP3 is not supported, > you need to update to SLES10 SP2 at first. Based on reading this, it would seem to me that my desired path of upgrade using the DVD as the installation source should be the second upgrade path that I listed. Unfortunately, I am new to the upgrade process spanning multiple service packs for SLES. So, if someone could confirm that my assumption are either correct or not that would be an immense help. [opensuse] Broadcom b4312 wireless card vs USB

My Dell Vostro has the subject wireless card; its PCI-ID is 1404:4315. On the site <http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43> I learn that this card's driver support is "in progress". I also get the impression that even with support, it is not as worthwhile a device as one might like. This makes me think that I might be better off buying a USB wireless device supported by the ZD1211 driver which is supported directly by the kernel, and save a lot of hassle. I'll be going through the airport at the end of the week, and may well find in the Duty Free area a decent substitute. [opensuse] error trying to install bootps xinetd service thru yast

since i'm getting this on SLES 11, can someone verify that this sort of thing happens on other suse 11s? as a test for configuring xinetd services thru yast, i brought up the inetd dialog window, and selected a random not installed (NI) service -- in my case, bootps, just for fun. i selected to turn it on, at which point it of course needed to be installed, whereupon yast tried to install the package "bootp-DD2", which failed. is there a reason that xinetd would not be able to install a particular service when asked to do so? zypper doesn't seem to recognize that package name. rday -- ======================================================================== Robert P. A while back, information on how the openSUSE release countdown logo was made was shared. I must be looking for the wrong thing, as I cannot locate that post. Age taking it's toll. Does anyone still have that information? Or remember when it was posted? I must be looking at the wrong place in the archives. [opensuse] openSUSE 11.1: Installing chromium-browser form "X:Y:openSUSE_Factory" repo

Hi openSUSE Lover, I tried installing Chromium from this repo[0] on openSUSE 11.1, but ended-up with this message: Problem: nothing provides libstdc++.so.6(GLIBCXX_3.4.11) needed by chromium-browser-4.0.221.1.r27907-2.1.i586 Solution 1: do not ask to install a solvable providing chromium-browser on my machine: $ rpm -q --whatprovides libstdc++.so.6 libstdc++43-4.3.3_20081022-9.5 Which i think the libstdc++ packages i have are: $ rpm -qa | grep libstdc libstdc++43-4.3.3_20081022-9.5 libstdc++43-devel-4.3.3_20081022-9.5 libstdc++33-3.3.3-7.5 Just curious how to install this package properly, because I successfully installed it from other repo[1] ? or just find and install package named glibcXX_3.4.11 ? or it is the reason why a openSUSE release version (ex: openSUSE 11.1) should use the appropriate repos (openUSE 11.1 machine do not use X:Y:openSUSE_Factory repo)? [opensuse] how to install a samsung SCX-4826FN printer on SLES 11?

hoping once again that there's no functional difference between opensuse 11 and SLES 11 in terms of adding this printer, i just borrowed the above printer, plugged it in via USB, tried to add it, and the utility *does* recognize this as a "Samsung SCX-4x26 Series" but fails to find any matching driver. still being new to suse linux, how do go about tracking down and installing the appropriate driver for this? i'm about to start googling but feel free to save me some time. :-) rday -- ======================================================================== Robert P. [opensuse] Kiwi-LTSP

Anybody tested LTSP on 11.0?, i'm using Kiwi-LTSP for testing. It starts fine on the thinclient side, I can mount a local DVD device, but audio isn't detected... The thinclient is a Virtualbox machine with AC97 audio card... [opensuse] Kmail debugging

Anybody knows if it's possible to see IMAP messages or fetch process in kmail?. I'm having issues with IMAP and Gmail, the account suddenly stopped syncing and I assume a particular email is to blame because a full resync doesn't help... [opensuse] Something strange going on

Guys, I need to ask what I need to check because since 10:30am I haven't gotten any mail to my gmail account. Nothing from opensuse(a)opensuse.org or opensuse-marketing(a)opensuse.org. Since I am using google mail, the first I have done is may sure it not going to spam and that I don't have a filter set up by mistake. Nothing is going to Spam and no filters.
