Hi, I have 10.2 on an Intel 865G motherboard machine and have just purchased a Samsung 2232GW LCD monitor to replace my CRT. This monitor is supposedly an update on an earlier model 225/226BW that did work on opensuse 10.2, according to http;//en.opensuse.org/hardware I was previously using the on-board video card on the CRT with 800x600 without any issues. When I try the LCDs suggested setting of 1680x1050, or any resolution on the same motherboard, the boot and splash screen look fine and fill the whole screen in the correct proportions but the logon screen has about 4pt text on the login screen that is 2cm smaller than the LCD allows i.e. login screen is smaller than available LCD desktop space but the login screen cannot be enlarged to fit the LCD size. Ctrl-Alt-+ just magnifies it all. I am just surviving on 800+600 but all the system text is 4pt size. Running init 1 and then running sax2 doesn't help as once the resolution is selected even if the same as current, the 'test' screen does not allow movement or sizing of the desktop. I have consulted the HCL on opensuse, and added an entry into the monitors regarding the 2232 not working on 10.2. It has been suggested that I update from 10.2 to a more recent release as the updated version would probably cater for the wide screen monitors. Given that 11.0 is 14 days away, I'll probably hook up the CRT till then and wait. The BIG question is: Does 11.0 support the Samsung SyncMaster 2232GW? In theory I could update the X files to a more recent release but having never compiled and installed, fewer things are scarier on a production IMAP system storing critical email and documents. [opensuse] Possible bug: 'Flashing' screen in oSUSE RC 1 with KDE

When I start openSUSE RC 1 (from live CD) my screen goes black about every four seconds, stays black for half a second and then goes back to normal. I'm using an Asus K8S-MX motherboard and it's onboard video port, with a Samsung SyncMaster 940N. Is this a known problem/bug in KDE? If not, is more info needed to fix this problem? [opensuse] Grub startup

Updated my openSUSE11.0 RC1 with latest fixes yesterday. Affter update and reboot the grub menu now looks correct. I can boot to openSUSE 11.0 and 10.3 OK but boot to 11.0 failsafe does not go to login screen it goes to the normal GUI (KDE3.5.9) desktop and freezes the mouse. Only way out is power off. Has anyone else seen this problem, if not I will report it as bug. yesterdays up date still requires me to comment out the reference to /etc/asound-pulse.conf in /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf for sound to work with KDE applications. [opensuse] slow loading webpages and pinging

I just re-isntalled OpenSuse 10.3 and I set my NIC up w/ a static IP, liek before. But now it takes several seconds to find the webpage or ping a host. It does eventually work, howerver, it takes longer than ever before. I have my ISP's nameservers and use 192.168.1.1 (router) as a gate way. [opensuse] Spam and this and other mailing lists

After joining this board I noticed that my spam rocketted. I've noticed the same sort of effect on other boards but not so marked. Some boards encourage people to use the list address for "to" and "reply to" that way everybody always gets to see the answer. This list always always sets "reply to" to my own email address. My biggets concern though is that there are obviously email address collection bots / people kicking about on lists and even changing reply to etc doesn't defeat them as the originators email address is still buried in the source. Why isn't it all stripped out by the lists server? Spam is a problem to many people including isp's. [opensuse] Installing R (R-base)

I've managed to install the R statistical package (R-base) from openSuse 10.2 (I'm running SLED 10.2.) It's taken a week and a half to get to this point. R runs but if I try to do any graphics, it tells me the "X11" module cannot be loaded. When I've installed R on other distros, all you had to do was install R and the graphics came along. If any one has any idea on how to fix this, I would appreciate hearing about it.
