seriously what's wrong in kde4? i agree there are some quirks here and there but its still massive improvement, plus in spite of being amazing looking its still faster than kde3... for adding new themes you can make a folder in ur kde4 installation (~/.kde4/share/apps/desktoptheme).. then unzip the theme file there.. then when you right click on the desktop (configure desktop) you'll get the theme.. or you can edit /home/surge/.kde4/share/config/plasmarc file. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help(a)opensuse.org

good news! sort of The 10.3 installers boot-installed-system can, at least sometimes, successfully boot up an 11.0 system. I had a test box that I installed 11.0 on. I configured it with all software raid on 3 scsi drives. /boot was on a small raid1 (ie: a perfectly ok and bootable arrangement, I use it _all_ the time) All the partitioning and raid config was done completely from within the gui 11.0 installer so to my mind there is no excuse for the bootloader installer failing to know how to install a working bootloader, but it sure didn't, and worse, wouldn't even let me specify exact grub config file contents that I knew would work either. (kept ignoring and rewriting one of the files it's own way, grub.conf) So, the install finishes without any errors and fails to boot. I left that box to the side for a while pending more time to play with it. Well I just booted up the 10.3 installer on it and chose boot installed system and it worked mostly. It successfully analysed the drives and figured out that there are 3 md raid arrays, that md2 has the root filesystem, (md0 is just /boot, md1 is swap), assembled the raid5 md2 array and booted into it. Remember, this was in the middle of an install, so it immediately went into the final stage of the 11.0 installer, which didn't work 100% correctly since the only working modules available to the kernel were the ones in it's own initrd or maybe just the ones it actually loaded before switching the root device to /dev/md2, that meant in this case that the nics didn't work and so the installer didn't have access to the http install source. I'm not sure why, it's all hardware that the 10.3 installer supports natively. Just intel pro/100's built into an old poweredge 1550, but that kind of thing is to be expected booting a kernel that doesn't match the installed system. I could probably fire up the nic manually from a different screen while the installer is still waiting for me to hit ok, and then it would probably keep working after switching into the new root fs. After finishing the last stage of the 11.0 installer, I see that it has also successfully automatically assembled and mounted both the raid1 /boot and the raid0 swap. At this point it would have been no problem to edit grub.conf, device.map, and menu.lst , reboot and no more problems with this box after that. But even better, I didn't have to do that. I was able to get a working bootloader completely from within yast. This is why this option is important. This was in the process of actually installing. I couldn't do the very first boot, which happens before the installation is even complete. From the users point of view the installer just runs for a while and then the machine shuts itself off and then never comes on again. "Grub error 24" If you can't install, you can't do anything. Or as someone else suggested, at least make the repair system option actually work. That thing just said "due to the partitioning here, we can't install a boot loader" What partitioning can't you (the 11.0 installer) figure out? Oh you mean the partitioning you yourself just created a few screens back? -- Brian K. [opensuse] 10.3 Yast->S/W Management, FULL screen NO decorations

Listmates, Yast software management has now decided to only display in full-screen mode without any window decorations that would allow changing it back to a normal size. So I just read another thread regarding the pae kernel - it installed by default on the three machines I've loaded openSUSE 11. On my Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop with Mobility Radeon X1400 and Core Duo processor. I'm experiencing intermittent yellow artifacts. I'm uninstalling the pae kernel and installing the default - is this advisable? What does pae stand for? [opensuse] (quasi) no sound after update to 11

[opensuse] opensuse11 x86_64 kernel_xen and Dell 2950

I installed opensuse11 x86_64 on a Dell 2950 server, at first, everything goes well. But after I installed Xen via Yast and choose "Xen" from boot menu, the system hangs, and the small LCD on the server shows "CPU 1 IERR" or "CPU 2 IERR" The last line of screen is like this: Broadcom NetXtreme II Gigabit Ethernet Driver bnx2 v1.5.11 (June 4, 2007) ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:03:00.0[A] -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16 I have to download kernel-xen 2.6.22 from opensuse 10.3's repo and with the old kernel system can boot.
