[opensuse] Best hardware DB to contribute to?

I tend to install SuSE on a few laptops every year and decided I might contribute my little bit of experience in this area to some online database of this-hardware-works, this-other-doesn't. There's several online, and I don't have time to contribute to them all. Does anyone have a suggestion about which one I should use? [opensuse] No IPv6 device available with kernel-default-2.6.20.15-ccj49 ?

Hi, After an upgrade today with Jan's kernel I'm getting an error from ioctl. # ip tunnel add sit0 mode sit remote 194.109.5.241 local 10.0.0.150 dev eth1 ioctl: No such device Same if if use 'ifup sit1' of course. ifcfg-sit1 content: STARTMODE='auto' BOOTPROTO='static' TUNNEL='sit' TUNNEL_LOCAL_IPADDR='10.0.0.150' TUNNEL_REMOTE_IPADDR='194.109.5.241' IPADDR='2001:888:10:90f::2/64' TUNNEL_LOCAL_INTERFACE='eth1' TUNNEL_TTL='64' With Jan's previous kernel, 2.6.18-ccj45 (iirc) there was no problem and the tunnel always worked. The ipv6 module is loaded btw. # lsmod|grep ipv6 ipv6 292672 42 nf_conntrack_h323,ip6table_mangle In the source's changelog I see some things relevant to Ipv6, such as Mar 9 by gregkh - patches.fixes/ipv6-no-autoconf: Allow to bring up network interface w/o ipv6 autoconf (161888). Mar 8 by jbohac - patches.fixes/ipv6-fix-null-pointer-hole: fix a possible memory leak (CVE-2007-1000, #252485) But why no device is made I have no idea, so, can someone here give me a clue? [opensuse] Open Office Database Files, cifs and samba

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 In rebuilding my machine after a crash I decided to try out mounting with cifs from samba, to avoid having to load both NFS and samba. I have hit a rather peculiar problem. When opening various Openoffice Database odb files that include queries and forms I find that the Forms and queries have disappeared and the database connection information goes awol. After various experiments I have found this happens when the odb file is stored to the cifs mount but not when I store the odb on the local file system. Documents seem to load and save without corruption (I have not checked other things yet). These worked without problem from a NFS mount before, and so far this only issue with the cifs mount I have found, but for me it is a bit of a showstopper. So far copying the the original odb files across directly from the cifs mount generates no problems, but I do not want to store these files locally. I have come across no references to this particular problem in searching. My samba config is now not entirely sane with the various things I have tried out and before I ditch the idea as unworkable, I am just wondering whether anyone else has come across this, and if so did they fix it (and how)?. - -- ============================================================================== I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone. [opensuse] webcam with motv camstream vlc mplayer

Hi everyone I've an old logitech quickcam express which works fine with: motv -nodga I can record the video stream as an avi. The viewer opens in mplayer and vlc and I can see the output clearly onscreen but i can't record it. The recording is garbled no matter which encapulation I try. camstream just gives me a blank screen whatever. I'm using nvidia 6100 with no dga support which is why motv works I think as it doesn't work without the -nodga switch. mencoder tv:// -tv driver=v4l:width=352:height=288:device=/dev/video0 -nosound -ovc lavc -o steve.avi gives me this error: ioctl mcapture failed: Invalid argument I've tried other formats of height and width with the same effect and of course hours of goodling for the ioctl error without success. Could anyone help me with recording a stream from the webcam in anything other than motv? [opensuse] NVidia dual screen and NX server

Hi I have a dual-screen setup working as two separate Xservers using the nvidia-settings config tool - no problems. I would like to run an NX session on the second of the screens. I can undertake the connection OK from that screen, but the actual remote desktop opens on the first screen.
