Hello, My name is Jan Fredrik Stoveland, and I am a masters student at the University of Oslo writing a thesis on firm-sponsored open source communities. openSUSE is the main case for the study. I have been granted permission to send you this email by the openSUSE management, and I hope you do not mind receiving it. I would like to ask all active members of this mailinglist to participate in a brief, anonymous electronic survey targeted at active contributors in the openSUSE community. So if you regularly post messages on this list to help other users, I would appreciate if you participate in the survey. Other users may participate too. The research is funded by the University, and is independent of any commercial interests. [opensuse] Problem with zypper

It doesn't refresh local repositories here. rpm -qa |grep zypper zypper-0.8.25-0.1 rpm -qa |grep createrepo createrepo-0.4.10-14 - - adding webpin-0.8-1.guru.suse103.i586.rpm to /srv/diverse - - evoking creterepo /srv/diverse - - evoking as root zypper ref: getting: zypper ref ... Repository 'diverse' ist aktuell. (is up to date) .... Alle Repositories wurden aktualisiert. After that still no luck with packet manager finding webpin-0.8-1.guru.suse103.i586.rpm But when I repeat this procedure couple of times then zypper finally recognizes the new repodata. [opensuse] 10.3 and powermanagement

I am sure it is something very obvious, yet I can't seem to find a way to configure the powermanagement in openSUSE 10.3. YaST is missing the power-management module and in KPowersave all options are 'greyed out'. [opensuse] Finding bugs in OpenSuse Bugzilla - Mime Type Errors in Konqueror

This problem exists since years and thousands struggle with it in different distributions: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/mandriva-30/could-not-find-mime-typ… In Konqueror file associations are incomplete in OpenSuse 10.3, so i changed .flv handling adding VLC to open those files (right-click on file, Properties, click icon after "Type:"). Since i get this error message popping up every time i hover above a .html file: "Could not find mime type application/octet-stream" Is it possible to search OpenSuse Bugzilla for a phrase ? [opensuse] OpenSuse 10.2 - Fortran compilation very slow through NFS network with a 64bit server and 32bit clients.

Dear all, I am a new OpenSuSE user and quite convinced by this distribution. However, I still have a problem. I have configured a gigabit network, using nfs and everything works fine except for all the Fortran compilers I have tried so far (Intel, g95, gfortran). There is no problem to compile some files which are stored locally on a nfs client. However, when I try to compile some files stored on /home which is mounted through nfs, then it takes hours to make the link between all the .o files created. My server is an OpenSuSE 10.2 - 64bit machine and the nfs options are "root_squash,sync,insecure,rw". All the clients run on OpenSuSE 10.2 - 32bit, with the options "rw,soft". Except for the compilation, I do not face any other slow network communication. Do you know if the problem is related to the "32bit clients - 64bit server" association? Should I add another nfs option to the server or to the clients? [opensuse] Kmail transfer from 10.2 to 10.3

Having a quit good working 10.3 now running KDE3, I want to transfer my mail folders from Kmail from the 10.2 to 10.3. Just copying the contents does not seem to do anything. What is the fast way.
