Odd YaST behaviour w.r.t. installing an RPM.

I need make 3.81 on my SuSE 10.1 machine. Googling, I found a package for 10.2 (factory) at ftp://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/opensuse/distribution/SL-OSS-factory/inst-sourc…. I experimentally clicked the "Install Package with YaST" button in Konqueror, and YaST started, downloaded a load of information from the net (why? repodata?), then decided to download and install make 3.80, which was already installed on the system! It didn't even try to install the 3.81 rpm! If I download and install the RPM by hand, "rpm -Uvh make-3.81-9.x86_64.rpm", it installs happily, without any missing dependencies, needs to upgrade other packages etc. So, why did YaST not install the RPM I asked it to, but instead went off and found another in one of its own repositories, with the same name but a different version, and install that? That's not what I asked it to do!

Cannot create Folders.

I am running SuSE 10.0 fully updated. KDE version is Release 3.4.2 Level "b" . My problem here is that Konqueror doesn't let me create Folders even in directories that I have been granted Permission. For example... There's a directory called /mnt/data I have given fullest access to this directory to every user. I have tried running the command-- #chmod -R 777 /mnt/data But that was futile. The "Create Folder" option that comes on the Right click menu is simply disabled.. Any inputs on this are appreciated. I have attached a snapshot just in case. I deleted the package dbus-1-x11-0.60-30.i586 and then installed all the dbus and libqt4 packages. This way everything went smooth and installed, and it seems to be working fine. I imagine that the dbus-1-x11 is not needed anymore, as probably it was integrated in another package. Until now, I didn't found any problems with this installation. SuSE 10 Hangs During install to Dell PowerEdge 2850

SuSE 10.0 Dell 2850, LSI SCSI Raid Controllers, UltraSCSI disks System boots up, I choose install, and the initial load begins. The process hangs at "Searching for info file" Any tips on getting past this? Thanks! Ok, I seem to have fu*&ed up and the machine hangs when booting at: Scanning for LVM volume groups... Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while... I am writing from another machine, so maybe the reply doesn't match. I did install both the kernel and the nvidia rpm available. Then I restarted the machine and it seems to start all right until it gets to a point where it says: intel8x0: clocking to 48000 It then seems to slow down extremely. After that point it loads kernel modules, activates the device Mapper, starts MD Raid, and finally hangs when reading the physical volumes. I tried to restart and load the last kernel, but obviously that does not happen as it hangs at the same point. What can I do now? Kostas

[opensuse] Mouse lags with fglrx/SuSE 10.1

Hi, I'm running SuSE 10.1 with fglrx-8.28.8. The last two months I worked with a Matrox G550, today I re-plugged a Radeon 9800pro. I configured the driver with sax and just changed DRI permissions to 666 manually. 3D acceleration is working fine. But as soon as my hard disk starts working (some heavy work with rsync), my mouse pointer starts jumping/lagging when I move it. Same when I type some text, the input appears delayed on the screen. I can't really work anymore while rsync runs... With the Matrox G550 I didn't have these problems (although the same rsync has been running every day during the last months). So it must be sth. fglrx-dependent. Any idea what could be wrong here? Has anyone else seen this? Last time I was using the 9800pro I was running SuSE 9.0 with fglrx-8.24.8 and I didn't have these problems. cu, Frank -- Dipl.-Inform. smart and nvidia drivers

Hiall, I wanted to install the latest nvidia driver and saw in the FAQ that for 10.1 it is possible to do that via yast ( http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/nvidia-installer-HOWTO.html#3 ). I just wondered if smart is able to do the same? Right now I am downloading their script and preparing to do it by hand. Just in case. Regs, Kostas
