Hello All I have been using SUSE 10.1 for just over a week now and I am very happy with it. Can anyone please assist me with the equivalents for the following: * The network activity indicator like in Windows XP - the icon on the task bar that shows network activity. * Is there an equivalent for ALT+TAB to switch between programmes? installing wireless modules produces errors

If I try to install the wlan-kmp-default-1_2.6.16.13_4-13.i586.rpm wireless modules from my dvd, I get a mass of failed dependencies errors. I'm assuming this is because the kernel I'm running is 2.6.16.21-0.21-default, apparently installed by one of the many updates. So, I figure I need to add another installation source, but when I attempt this, again, any of the locations I try to use fail with the same error: Unalbe to create installation source from URL 'ftp://ftp-linux.cc.gatech.edu/pub/suse/suse' Details: Cannot create the installation source Try again? Yet, I can get to the site via a browser. I've tried this for sites that are close to me as well as some in europe, same issue. lyx - missing classes

Hello all: I have installed lyx (guru's version, newest) onto SUSE 10.0 and SUSE 10.1. The install process ran smoothly, dependency problems were not reported. When I start lyx I get this type of error messages: "The document uses a missing TeX class "article". LyX will not be able to produce output." or: "The document uses a missing TeX class "book". LyX will not be able to produce output." In Document/Settings/Document Class window there are classes listed and all of them marked as unavailable. Why is this and how could I fix it? I am new to lyx. I googled but could not find any usable information. Help or links are welcome! inode limit questions

Hi all, I'm running out of inodes on one of my partitions (IUsed in df -i = 100%). It's my understanding that this limit can be increased only when you format the partition (at least on ext2/3). If I recreate the partition with a higher inode limit, do I also need to increase /proc/sys/fs/file-max and /proc/sys/fs/inode-nr? Should it be the case, is it still true that inodes limit should be 3/4 times the file-max limit? Because on that 9.3 server, they are the same. Kind regards, Gaël

ZMD does not appear to be running - checking info

Dear List: This is an old problem I have been putting off until I got more important issues solved. According to info I have gathered, the fix for ZMD is to delete /var/lib/zmd/zmd.db, or, according to bug no.191140, /var/lib/zmd/zmd.db and 'installed-packages-stamp.' Just checking; if anyone knows anything else I should check first, I would welcome the input. Thanks, --ED--

ocfs2 on mailserver lock up

Hello, we are running SLES9 SP3 with OCFS2 for mailsystem. There are three nodes in the cluster with shared storage and OCFS2 filesystem on it. The filesystem is used for mailbox storage and is accessed by smtpd ,pop3 and imap processes. The system works fine for a few hours but locks up so that the OCFS2 filesystem is accessed by mail system extremely slowly. It is possible to list the contents of the filesystem or to change the directories, but mailsystem is working slowly. Tracing smtp processes with strace showed that mail is delivered to mailboxes but it is done in a speed of few kilobytes per second. This lock up happens under heavier load when the cluster is in production use and when it happens only restart fixes the problem. The umounting of the OCFS2 filesystem is not possible even when all process accessing it are killed. Currently mail system cluster is not used in production so we tried to do some tests, but we were not able to replicate the problem while sending several thousands of messages to a single account. The only thing that comes in mind, that the filesystem locks in the case when a file (message) is access by smtp process and pop3 or imap process simultaniously when the processes are running on distinct cluster nodes. This might happen because of lack of global knowledge of localy locked files among OCFS2 cluster nodes. Could this be true? And what other reasons might be there for the problem? Any suggestions on solving the problem? The system information follows: OS: Suse Linux Enterprise Server 9 Service Pack 3 Mailbox format: Maildir SMTP daemon: Postfix (postfix-2.2.6-0.1) OCFS2 version: 1.2.1 Kernel Version: 2.6.5-7.276-smp Pop3 and imap daemon: Courier IMAP (courier-imap-4.1.0-1.suse910) -- Augustas Gutautas

strange KDE/konqueror problem

Hello all: I have the following strange KDE/konqueror problem: In the konqueror file manager when I want to enter a directory (eg Documents) by double clicking I get this error message: KDEInit could not launch '/home/user/Documents'. Same thing with every directory. This is a new problem and only occurs in one user's session. Other users are not affected. I have suse 10.1 with newest KDE packages: kdebase3-kdm-3.5.4-112.1 kdebase3-ksysguardd-3.5.1-69 kdebase3-session-3.5.4-112.1 kdebase3-3.5.4-112.1 kdebase3-SuSE-10.1-58.7 kdebase3-extra-3.5.4-112.1 kdelibs3-arts-3.5.4-78.1 kdelibs3-3.5.4-78.1 How could I fix this problem? Thanks in advance, IG ps: I've updated kdebase and kdelibs yesterday and before that this problem did not show up. Open the "File" menu and move the mouse rapidly among the menus File-Help and see the behavior. Though, this behavior also shows up with the old versions, mozilla-nss-3.11-19.i586.rpm and MozillaFirefox-1.5.0.3-7.i586.rpm.
