How to set syslog.conf in SuSE 10.1

Below is a description of a syslog configuration. I do not have syslog.conf. How do I do that in SuSE 10.1 ??? Syslog Configuration Next, modify your syslog.conf (should be in /etc/syslog.conf), and add this line: # OpenSER messages, make sure this spacing is done with tabs, spaces may cause errors local7.*; -/var/log/openser * |Note: that on Solaris 9 (and maybe other systems), the asterisk (*) is NOT a Priority Level ONLY a Source Facility - which means it can only be used on the left, and not the right of the period (.). In such a case, this equivalent line will also cause all messages to be logged (”debug” and higher priorities, “debug” is the lowest priority):| local7.debug -/var/log/openser * /|Source: Source Facilities VS. Priority Levels, page 267; Darrell Ambro - Solaris System Administration|/ Create the log file: touch /var/log/openser Now, in OpenSER, to do some custom logging within your route (it will still catch all regular output from OpenSER, of course), I like to use xlog. Regular log will work, too.

file find in konqueror

This must have been answered before, but a quick googling did not reveal the answer. Why does clicking the "find file" button in konq result in intense and seemingly endless hard drive whirring, while the console command "locate ...." provides the answer almost before the <enter> key is pressed on the keyboard?

suse 10.0 64 display problem

Hi there I just installed Suse 10.0 64 on a Sun V40z attached to a HP TFT 5600 console (video, keyboard, mouse), everything was going ok, until I went for the initial reboot after the installation of the packages (by then Inknew I had to switch to 1024x764 from the initial gui with F3), and it wouldn't give me a gui afterwards, the display would go blank, thinking it was a driver problem I switch to text installation and everything went fine, but after first reboot post installation, same thing not gui at all, I switch to not gui and text logon and I can get to the server now and logon but it wont startup startx, only does it if I run the server as failsafe mode, it tells me there is a trident card in it and display wonderfully using failsafe, but if I go back to normal mode, it would go blank. Distributed processing (Beowulf style) is the future of digital computing (me thinks)... that what many of us are experimenting /researching these days. Why have one giant piece of, ah-- hardware, running multiple copies of linux... or anything else... when you can distribute the machine across a network of Beo-clusters for fractions of dollars using off-the-shelf parts? HP Laptop froze with CAPS lock blinking

My computer HP dv4000 just froze, and the caps lock light was blinking. This is the third time it has happen and every time it occurs I am always doing something different and does not occur at a regular interval. The commonality is I am typing. And the only way to recover is to do a hard reboot. I have check the logs and no error messages are generated. The only thing I could think of is some how I am forcing the comp into a sleep/hibernate mode through the use of the fn key. I should also note that when I was typing I did not press the caps key. The only problem is when I try to reproduce the problem nothing happens. So I am to think maybe some else is causing the problem. Has anyone else come across or know what this problem is? Funky USB keyboard behavior in SuSE 10.0

Hi everybody. I've discovered that every once in a while my USB keyboard will fail to function. By this I mean that keypresses will not register until I unplug the keyboard and plug it in again. The other USB devices are not affected This is a system which typically remains on 24x7 - so it becomes apparent onb those occasions when I go into the computer room and try to use the keyboard. I can't determine any sort of causal factor - it seems that the USB driver simply loses track of the keyboard once in a while. I have determined that the fault does not lie in the keyboard itself. It's very inconvenient to have to haul out the case in order to replug the USB cable because it sits in a server cabinet. wireless configuration WEP key length

I'm having a problem when trying to create the WEP keys for a wireless card. I had this working fine and was able to configure it with a key length of 64. I removed the configuration in order to try a different card. Now, when I attempt to set the WEP key length, the drop down only offers 128. Before it provided both 64 and 128. I don't know if a recent update changed this or what, but this network uses a 64 bit key and I need to configure this card this way as well. Alternative to "at"?

Hello, can someone suggest an alternative to "at" for scheduled script execution? I currently use at to schedule recordings with my tv-card, but I find it lacking in a few ways. One thing that would be nice if the scheduler could execute a script at one time, kill it off at another, and prevent other jobs from being scheduled in the time in between. This because access to the tv device is only allowed by one process at once. Also, I think the output is lacking. Here is how I use at today: The current output of atq: 44 2006-10-01 17:00 a claes 32 2006-09-30 23:25 a claes 34 2006-09-27 22:00 a claes 45 2006-10-08 17:00 a claes 46 2006-09-27 22:00 a claes 47 2006-10-04 22:00 a claes 42 2006-09-30 21:00 a claes Each of these jobs correspond to a certain recording, but the listing does not reveal which one, and at what time it ends. To find that I have to enter at -c jobname, which will print a lot of garbage with the interesting stuff at the bottom: at -c 48 #LOTS of env stuff... Installing all the rpms available in [1] except the kde*.rpm (s) leads to error: Failed dependencies: dbus-1 = 0.60-30 is needed by (installed) dbus-1-mono-0.60-30.i586 dbus-1 = 0.60-30 is needed by (installed) dbus-1-x11-0.60-30.i586 It seems that packages dbus-1-mono and dbus-1-x11 are missing from the repository. Any help on this?
