I manufacture PCs and you will be happy to know that I have already built approx 4000 systems loaded with FC1 / 2 Linux this year. To speed up the installations via the network I setup a dns server and a dhcp to assign IPs and host names to the computers. The problem I am faced with is possibly a config problem in my dhcp file. The server is not assigning the host names, I also can't use mac address statements because the PCs are always new. In other words I want the dhcp to assign an IP on a random basis, if for example the IP is 192.168.2.1 then make that PCs hostname station1.domainname. If a PC is unplugged from the network then it must make that IP immediatley available again. where is GLUT in SuSE 9.1 ?

Folks, I tried compiling some code that uses GLUT and it failed because GLUT seems to be gone. I tried installing GLUT myself but it requires OpenGL. Since GL seems to be already installed by SuSE I did not want to mix things up... Question, what is the correct thing to do? Is GLUT obsolete now? Thanks for your help. Dell 5150 Laptop with SUSE Linux

Hi all, I just ordered my first Laptop machine, and I'm wondering if anyone has used the same model, or knows if it works with SUSE Linux, or at least works with Linux in General, because I really don't plan on leaving XP on it. Laptop Specs: Inspiron 5150 Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 3.06GHz, 15-in XGA RAM 512MB, 333MHz, 2 DIMMs Video Card 32MB DDR NVIDIA® GeForce™ FX Go5200 AGP 4x Graphic Hard Drive 30GB Hard Drive Integrated Network Card Internal 56K Modem 8X Max Variable DVD-ROM Drive Primary Battery 96 WHr Lithium-Ion Primary Battery Dell 720 Color Printer Does anyone have a laptop like this? I haven't looked into it yet but I'm just wondering if anyone does use one of these and if they work or not. I won't be using the modem, so that doesn't matter. I have a Cable connection, so the NIC hopefully will work. And Printers... I've never used one in Linux before, so that will be new to me. I have about 60 OSs, including SUSE Linux 8.1 8.1 and 9.1 Professional, and BSD and Other Linux distros, and I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck with this system. So what do you guys think? This is my first laptop, and I'm hoping it works out. Are Dell Inspiron Laptos generally good? Good with Linux?

Hi, I have the following setup. 2 SuSE 9.1 machines, updated. One is the LDAP server and the second one the machine on which I want to login using LDAP accounts.. I have an objectClass uaicCont with all the fields from posixAccounts and shadowAccount. When I log on the second machine and try to change the password using passwd command the userPassword is changed with the new password but the shadowLastChange field on the LDAP server doesn't change. confirming logrotate has occured

Hi, I would like to check my system is logrotating as I cannot have the partition it is outgrow the HDD. How would I check, besides viewing the cron_daily etc scripts, that the logrotated had run and compressed any of my logs? USB external drive

Hi, Running suse 9.1 - kernel 2.6.3-15mdk.(Mandrake 10.0 alternately). Installed and updated this last weekend. All this on a new pc. Do not know if my problem existed before the update. When I transfer data to sda1 or 2 then the external drive light comes on and stays on. This hangs my pc too. Nothing works and the only recourse is to press the reset switch. I remember sometime ago some discussions about hotplug/usb. That some application was to be re-installed from cd. I did not take that much notice of the problem because I did not have a problem. Kindly please what was suggested to overcome this. The new hardware may be suspected but works like a charm in Mandrake 10.0. Hi all... I have in a speadsheet a number for example "1.23", but it is actually "1.299999995". When I save this to a csv file I want the 1.23, but I get the !"§§!"§ 1.29999995. How can I tell Oo to save the short form? 9.1 amavis-new/spamassassin broken?

Anyone know if something changed in the amavis-new/spamassasin setup that SuSE installs? I've noticed that sa's headers are not getting inserted into my mail like they used to. Best I can pin down is that something altered the behavior late July. /etc/amavisd.conf # default values, can be overridden by more specific lookups, e.g. SQL $sa_tag_level_deflt = -20.0; # add spam info headers if at, or above that level $sa_tag2_level_deflt = 10.0; $sa_kill_level_deflt = $sa_tag2_level_deflt; # triggers spam evasive actions Yet when I run with debug on, it looks to me like sa is using an entirely different setting, here's a typical message from sa debug: is spam? score=-4.901 required=5 tests=BAYES_00 Note the 'required' is 5, where the heck is sa getting that from? It's acting like it is completely ignoring the settings in amavisd.conf. Samba mount problem

I have my computer connected to a Windows 2000 share via samba. I have problems, however, if that server is ever restarted. The mount point becomes inaccessable (i.e. 'ls' gives and error), and I cannot umount it ('server is busy' error). A umount -f does not work either. The only option I have found is to restart, which I hate to do. Any suggestions on how to avoid this, or at least how to get it re-mounted? I am mounting the server via /etc/fstab, with the following line: //xeon/c /xeon smbfs credentials=/etc/mypasswords,uid=1000,gid=100 0 0 (BTW, what does the '0 0' at the end do?
