ftp install failed.

Hi. I have read about how to install SuSE via FTP. There were many answers to the different queries, but I cannot get it to work. Also I have read the README.FTP file, and have googled. I start up with a boot cd, and do set up the network, that seemed to be ok. Next I entered the : install=ftp://[195.135.221.132]/pub/suse/i386/9.1 I also have tested without the [ ]. Also instead of the IP, I have entered ftp.suse.com. And I also tested with 9.1/ All tests failed. What is wrong here ?. Erik Jakobsen

More NFS troubles on a 9.1 box

So I have a 9.0 box which has three drives. sda1 mounts on / sdb1 mounts on /www sdc1 mounts on /www/xxx/yyy/zzz I have folder /www exported under NFS and shared under Samba. This configuration has worked for the last two years and it has worked great. Enter my 9.1 workstation. Up until yesterday, my 9.1 box mounted 9.0:/www on /www without a problem since 9.1 first released. Starting today, I can no longer read any data from the sdc1 partition on folder /www/xxx/yyy/zzz. I can read everything else under /www, just not the contents of ~/zzz. This said, I can read and write to it using the Samba share from a MS box. I can log into the 9.0 box and read the contents correctly. I can umount sdc1 and mount it somewhere else, export that folder with NFS, and correctly import it into the 9.1 filesystem. I can even umount sdc1, write data into the ~/zzz folder and then read that data from the 9.1 box. I just can't read anything on the sdc1 partition if it is mounted on ~/zzz. I have checked the permissions all the way down to /dev/sd[abc]1 and everything is set. I just can't figure it out. I am using the 2.6.5-7.104-default kernel on an AMD XP 2000 with a custom ATI 9600 Pro module (downloaded from SuSE). I have yet to try downgrading kernels, but if I must, I must. But before I went through the trouble (since everything else is working so well) I thought I would ask the list for some fresh ideas. Has anyone heard of a problem like this and if so how was that problem solved? Thanks in advance. Ken

Raw printer

formatting the dos partitions

On an 8.2 new install, I set up three partitions for dos, 2 using fat32 and one using fat16. I am unable to get suse to establish a 16 bit fat. Why 16 bit? I found an encryption program that traps calls to the hd and encrypt/decrypts onthe fly, so the partition is always encrypted. Second problem. I use ms-dos 7.1 (from win98) because it allows me to access my 32 bit fat partitions via dosemu or real mode. Unfortunately when I booted with the win98 emergency boot disk, it trashed the partition table of my suse 8.2 install. The rescue disk did not help, as fdisk showed a trashed partition table. (A) Can I recover from this? (B) how do I format the fat partitions so I can access them from suse/dosemu or realmode dos. tia, John Sowden American Sentry Systems. Printer problems.

Hi folks, I've recently upgraded from 8.2 to 9.1 and have run into all sorts of problems with printers. I've given up on cups, but I now think its a hardware issue not a cups issue anyway and am wondering if anyone can tell me why my lp ports are as follows. server:/home/pnunn # ls -l /dev/lp* -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5 2004-08-30 21:56 /dev/lp0 crw-rw---- 1 root lp 6, 1 2004-04-06 23:27 /dev/lp1 crw-rw---- 1 root lp 6, 2 2004-04-06 23:27 /dev/lp2 Why would lp0 not be crw?
