Configuring Apache2

Hi, I am trying to configure some servers for HTTP access using apache2 in Suse8.2. I've installed all (I think:) necessary packages for apache2... But when i try to do: $ apache2ctl start An error appears: httpd2: could not open document config file /etc/apache2/suse_loadmodule.conf I have checked, the file doesn't exist... Why? Am I forgotting something? some Yast modules thing? Another thing: Is it better (in terms of security, access time and response time) to use apache (1.x.x) or apache2 ? Thanks in advance, Tiago Lima

ACPI help amateur

Hello list, I recently installed Suse 8.2 on my HP laptop. Everything works fine, except.. I have no battery or power indication,when I go into the control center it says "your computer seems to have a partial ACPI installation. ACPI was probably enabled, but some of the sub-options were not-you need to enable at least "AC adapter" and "Control Method Battery" and then rebuild your kernel." Does anyone know how to rectify this problem? Do I have to reinstall the whole system from scratch to fix this? or is it something to worry about at all. I mean I'd like to know if my battery is running low. I ran the installation disk again and it seemed to just offer installation or installation with ACPI disabled, I don't recall being asked at any point during the installation about ACPI suboptions. Is this something I can rectify by adding some lines to the boot loader in Yast? quite frankly this rebuild your kernel sounds a bit scary. thanks for you help, wayne

Is there a command that list the available logical volumes available in a system/vg? vgscan shows the volume groups. vgdisplays shows info about a vg. there is pvdisplay and lvdisplay. I look for something similar as vgscan, but than for logical volumes. (imagine if you have 30 lv's on a system, and you need to remember all there names ;) -- Richard

I was going to buy myself this card this morning, but ended up not doing it, sadly. I put SuSE 8.2 on a friend's computer last night, to see if it will pick up the card and enable 3D. It is my understanding that XFree 4.3 supports the Radeon 9000 series. But alas, it didn't work. I didn't even get 2D. X wouldn't start at all. In the graphics module of Yast2, I kept getting a message to the effect that either "no screens found," or "screen found, but non with usable configuration." Why is this? The card is detected as "RV250 lf" - under 3D I get a dialog box saying that the driver is experimental, but is enabled, so all should be well. But no go. Under 8.1 the card was detected as the same, and it worked in 2D without any hassles. So next I tried the ATI driver, which wouldn't compile. It moaned that the installed kernel headers didn't match the running kernel. linux-2.4.20.SuSE-athlon vs linux-2.4.20-athlon or something like that. So I compiled a fresh kernel, which should sort this out. This is where it really got weird. I booted into the new kernel, and got a kernel panic shortly after starting eth0. Tried booting back into the stock kernel - same kernel panick. Can anyone tell me what's cooking? The board in question is a Gigabyte GA-7VAX - KT400 Is anyone using this card successfully under linux? Can the people with Radeon 9000 cards tell us what they did or didn't do to get it working? Midgard query

Hi folks, I have been trying to get midgard running over the last few days, and I think I have it up and running, mostly anyway. There are a few niggles that I hope someone here knows how to fix. The two niggles are: 1) when connecting to http://host.domain:8102/asgard/ I get the following error Fatal error: Cannot redeclare processsubmit() in code-global(6) : eval()'d code on line 483 2) when connecting to http://host.domain:8101/admin/host/ and clicking on "New Host" at the bottom right, it just reloads the page, and will not allow me to add a new host. Both Dell and Hewlett Packard have low-end desktops with the same video chip. but otherwise different from one another. I am familiar with Dell's low-end cpus. KDE or X crashes

Hi: I have Suse 8.1 I have experienced periodic crashes at the KDE login when the wrong password is entered at the screensaver password entry dialog. Actually it isn't a crash. Not sure really. What happens is that the screen goes black and then X restarts, and the KDE user login appears. This wipes out all running applications, and is unacceptible for a system that is supposed to be stable. If I hadn't learned to save my work every minute I'd have lost a lot of work due to this and other KDE/X crashes. As a desktop OS, I have failures that result in the wiping out of all my applications quite a bit more often on Suse 8.1 Linux than I do on Windows 2000, though I do use Windows only about 10% of the amount I use Linux. But it stands at about 20 X/KDE failures caused by user actions in about 4 years, compared to 1 NT crash in the same time, and that occurred overnight when it was idling, so it may have been caused by a brownout. What might I do to to find whether this is a bug or not that I might be able to do something about? Recover/convert unuseable mpeg file

Hello, I have got an 18 MB mpeg file (captured on Windows from a camcorder). the command mpg123 test.mpg gives: Playing MPEG stream from test.mpg... Searching for next FF header Can't find frame start. and exits plaympeg says: error MPEG-1 Streams with D-frames are not supported mplayer plays the file an says: MPEG-PS file format detected Mainactor included in SUSE 8.2 says "file not valid" and exits How can I convert/process that file so it is loadable by MainActor? [OT?] How to test MainActor?

Hello, I want to try MainActor video editor as packaged in SUSE 8.2 on a computer without firewire port. Is there short video (10/15 seconds) online in a mainator supported format which I can download to test the program? Being for a review, it should be something without copyright problems.
