Susefax Problem

nvidia discovery

I don't know about the rest of you nvidia TNT2 users but every since the 2.4.x kernels I get a black screen of death and my machine would HANG upon a shutdown or reboot from the kdm login prompt or a xterm. Well it turns out that for me that if I remove framebuffer support from the kernel (that enables the little pinguin in the top left corner of the screen when you boot up) my machine will no longer HANG. I still get a black screen but the system does not HANG. It shuts down or reboots you just can't see anything until the reboot starts. Just thought the info might help someone. I'm now able to use nvidias drivers with the 2.4.x kernels without any HANGS. -- Mark Hounschell dmarkh(a)cfl.rr.com

Lexmark z32 printer and linux

Hi Folks Bought a Lexmark z32 printer today, and installed the linux driver. I can print a test page from the GUI provided......but attempts at printing anything else have failed. The print job doesn't even appear to be reaching the print queue. Apache in 7.1

Hi! A slight wonder: After installing Apache using YaST2 why do I have both "/opt/www/htdocs" and "/usr/local/httpd/htdocs"? I can't remember seeing that in RH and Mdk. A small suggestion to SuSE: Put a sample index.html in htdocs after an Apache install, so the user quickly can check if Apache is working. Mattias

Hey, got a few questions for the ozzies on this list. Does anybody use dhclient and bpalogin to connect to Bigpond Cable using 7.1? I was in Sydney over Y2K and set up a server up back then using SuSE 6.2 and I had a hell of a time to get it to log onto BPA. If you remember dhclient as well as dhcpd were broken and fighting with bugs. I got it to go. Now I figured it was time to replace that server and I send a pre-made harddrive overseas. I couldn't get it to go yet so if anybody knows anything about this speak up. Well tech is shit expensive down there. e.g. www.ht.com.au is selling cat5 for 4.00 au$ a meter. everythinglinux is not even selling any bulk. That comes out to be over US$600 for 1000 feet of cat5. I can easily get that here for 85 US$ (shipped). Prices down there are ridiculous. Where do you get cheap bulk cat5 or other tech items. I mean I been doing tech stuff down there in Sydney for close to two years now but you pay with your life for it. Tom rpm -Uvh ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/7.1/suse/a1/perl.rpm gives error: failed dependencies: libc.so.6(GLIBC_2.2) is needed by perl-5.6.0-54 libdb-3.1.so is needed by perl-5.6.0-54 So where on the suse ftp, is the perl 5.6 mentioned , that installs in suse70 ? Or did you update to GLIBC_2.2 as well . ?? JohnWM

Kernel Sources

On the SuSE ftp site they have a 2.4.2 kernel rpm. Does anybody know where the source code for this kernel is? I wish to do a make cloneconfig but I think I need the source for the actual kernel I'm using and not the one from ftp.kernel.org. Any help appreciated. Phil
