[SuSE Linux] Crashing machine

I have a machine (Cyrix p166+, Biostar MB, 64MB RAM, IDE WD HD, IDE cdrom) with SuSE 5.2 that locks up every few days. Locks up hard, usually no messages in the log. Last night I think I finally caught a partial lockup. I've tried various suSE and custom kernels in the 2.0.33-5 range. Hardware fixes I've tried: RAM -several different sets of various sizes. Shorter IDEScables. Monitoring cooling/temperature. No help. Okay, never mind, my telling you that the kernel that comes on the boot disk DOES NOT SUPPORT MY DRIVE, does not seem to work. SO just forget it . Anyways, I solved my problem. I bought a double IDE Drive cable and put my CD-ROM as a slave to one of my Hard Drives, so in LInux terms it's hdd. NOw I can install Linux. <yay> That is, once I remembered to set the jumpers on the hard drive to get it in master mode, instead of one drive mode. What I finally had to do was do the install with the ThinkPad bootdisk, then finish the install using the ThinkPad bootdisk (after it reboots the first time I use the ThinkPad boot disk to "boot an installed system"). After the installation was completely finished, I make my own kernel (zImage) and all was fine. [SuSE Linux] TSENG6000

I've got a TSENG ET6000 card. I try to use SaX to install it. I remember that the Tseng driver doesn't work, so I use the Generic (I'm not sure about the correct name, but it's the first one), where I also can choose Tseng. If I do that SaX tells me to install the package xtseng, but that package doesn't exist - or at least it doesn't show up on the package listing. [SuSE Linux] was the Thinkpad boot problem ever solved?

I just gave up on trying to install SuSE 5.2 onto my new Thinkpad 560E. Despite using the bootdisk provided on the SuSE website and installing the system, I just couldn't get Lilo (in MBR) to load the kernel. Lilo seemed to be configured ok, but the kernel couldn't be decompressed. So I switched back to RedHat and everything went fine. I'm wondering, though, whether the problem has been fixed in SuSE 5.3?
