I have setup my ppp-on script which is running fine from my user account after doing: chmod u+s pppd However, once I shutdown and re-boot I get "pppd:Permission denied " when running ppp-on and have to do the chmod all over again. I am on SuSE 5.2 attempting to compile postgresql-6.3.2. It fails here: gcc -o psql -L../../interfaces/libpq psql.o stringutils.o \ -lpq -ldl -lm -lbsd -lreadline -lhistory -export-dynamic /usr/lib/libreadline.a(display.o): In function `rl_redisplay': display.o(.text+0x9bf): undefined reference to `tputs' According to a Usenet post, tputs is in libncurses. But I have libncurses installed: # rpm -q ncurses ncurses-4.2-1 Can anyone give me a clue how to fix this? I apologize for my somewhat terse reply re. this thread. Here is my post that was taken by Mckinney as being "whining". I fail to see any whining or dissatisfaction with SuSE in these comments. I stand by these remarks, and I stand by my belief that SuSE linux is the finest quality dist available. I do not wish to engage in any flame wars on this or any other public forum. I was just irritated when I was taken so far out of the context of my intent, and I replied defensively as is human nature. I wrote: >..as well as a new bash and a new libc5. I am running SuSE 5.2 with OSS and have a Sounblaster AWE32 and the problem described is exactly what I am getting. Since everything else works I was starting to think, maybe I needed a higher CPU. RealAudio plays for an instant and even though it thinks it is still playing the sound has mysteriously stopped. On the other hand x11amp and other stuff works just fine. [S.u.S.E. Linux] Help with SuSE 5.1 and libc 5.44

Hi, I am new to SuSE and I am trying to install the new JDK1.1.6. In the JDK readme it recommends that if your distribution is libc, it should be version 5.44. My questions regarding this are: 1. Do I have to buy the 5.2 SuSE distribution disks to upgrade? 2. If I can down load the 5.44 libc from somewhere--Where can I get it from online, Is there a SuSE version of the correct rpm to do this? 3. Since I need to upgrade the library to use JDK1.1.6, is it recommendable at this point to upgrade to the newer glibc and then download the glibc version of the JDK? Sorry, it took me a while to figure out why I was having problems with the Real Video Player. I finally got it to work by forgetting about the oss rpm drivers and ended up compiling sound as a module and setting up isapnptools for my awe 64 card. good day all ... i'm having a little trouble getting sound configured on my laptop. it's a gateway solo 2200/suse 5.2 box. i build sound into the kernel without any problem. in make xconfig i checked yes to sound card support, to ensoniq soundscape support, and to /dev/dsp and /dev/audio support. compiled the kernel with no problem, copied the new kernel to / and reran lilo. still no sound and no indication of sound support in /var /log/messages. am i missing something here? thanks! -- -- michael -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo(a)suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

With all the discussion about 5.3 out and what is in the distributions..... Look at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Product/lx52/index.html#NEW"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Product/lx52/index.html#NEW</A">http://www.suse.com/Product/lx52/index.html#NEW</A</A>> and tell me that SuSE's track record doesn't have "meat & potatoes" upgrades in it's releases. Get out of the "cheese & cracker club" and stop whining.
