I'm currently using a 14" svga(I think) it was given to me with an old 486/33.(It was better than the 14" vga I have:-)) I'd like to replace it and have considered a 17" Trintron, possibly with multimedia, though I've not been able to configure the AWE64 I just purchased or the Hauppauge Wincast/TV-dbx. Having seen DVD on an HP Pavillion ("Contact" is pretty impressive) it may be time to do more with my machine. The NEC flatpanels(www.xtraview.com) look preety impressive(I know much more expensive thenn crts), but I like the power consumption and lower radiation. Still there may be other trade offs, such as perhaps mpeg will be unacceptable. Anyways, was wondering if anyone, aside from laptop users, has made the switch? I've recently bought suse and set it up on my laptop. I was wondering if anyone had advice on where I could get a version of automount for linux. NFS is working but I don't want to have to mount every partition on every machine where I work, and then go home and have problems. As long as we're on the subject, anything over 800x600 and I get a horrid refresh rate. Both my card (s3) and my monitor (ADI 5AP 17") are capable of doing better at up to 1280x1024. I dual boot, and this is this case in both os'es, so it isn't an x issue. I'm just curious, is my graphics card or my monitor more likely to be the culprit? I get outstanding image quality at 800x600, but at 1024x768 I get the wavy effect from too low a refresh rate. I would hate to buy one of the new matrox g200 cards about to be released if it turns out my monitor is the problem. Someone know how to accomplish this and willing to share ? Here's the scoop: To get a SuSE 5.2 system up with OSS Commercial drivers and RealAudio 5.0 I did the following: Grabbed the following files - rv50_linux20.tar.gz RealAudio osslinux39d-2034.tar.gz OSS (This costs...$20.00) Take oss files and put them in /tmp . run ./oss-install and take the defaults as they work fine. Next, take the RealAudio files and de-compress in a good place. Open your browser to ~/rvplayer5.0/index.htm and follow the instructions with caveat of doing this: I put info on the location of RealAudio at .bash_profile and here's mine: ---------------------------------------------------------------- # .bash_profile # Get the aliases and functions if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then . ~/.bashrc fi # User specific environment and startup programs PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin:$HOME/.pgp:$HOME/rvplayer5.0 ENV=$HOME/.bashrc USERNAME="W.D.McKinney" MOZILLA_HOME=/opt/netscape export MOZILLA_HOME export USERNAME ENV PATH export PGPPATH=~/.pgp LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$HOME/rvplayer5.0 export LD_LIBRARY_PATH ----------------------------------------------------------------- This is a quick fix and it works fine. Here's the next step, move the files from /rvplayer5.0/Mailcap & Mime.types and copy them to your home sub-directory as .mime.types and .mailcap These are important. You may just need to edit them if you have them already. I'm listening to the radio now continuously with RealAudio and no problems at all. Ok, with all the discussion I thought I'd try to get RealAdio up with my AWE64. Do you have to do anything special to Communicator to get it to see the (plugins), files in /opt/netcape/plugins/ ? Like delete the libnull file ? I didn't see anything referenced in the README. Hello, I have an HP CopyJet and have been trying to get it working with my new-ly installed SuSE 5.2 system. I'm trying to configure apsfilter and gs, but I'm not clear as to which driver to use. I've variously tried hpdj and pjxl300 without complete success. I can print plain ASCII, but getting gs to print is more problematic - I get garbage. What printer should I send gs output to (and what gs driver should I use), and how should I configure that printer in apsfilterrc?
