proc/cpuinfo reports 195MHz for a 333XLR8 daughterboard=G3 ???

hwllo guys can you make sense of this. I have an XLR8 ZIF daughter card and G3/333 CPU, but the cpuinfo reports 195!!! Is this info trustworthy ? is then anything I can do something then to switch the CPU to 333MHz ? or read the temp correctly ? processor : 0 cpu : 750 temperature : 0 C clock : 195MHz revision : 2.2 bogomips : 670.11 zero pages : total 0 (0Kb) current: 0 (0Kb) hits: 0/4681 (0%) machine : Power Macintosh motherboard : AAPL,7500 MacRISC memory : 144MB pmac-generation : OldWorld btw has anyone got an XF 4.0 config for 16bit colour on this machine using the onboard 'control' FB ? cheers -- John

Well, I created the partitions, gave them reasonable sounding names (I don't think the type or name really matters to anybody except MacOS and maybe OF). In the OF I just tell it to boot hd:9,\\yaboot (but actually the ybin utility does it all for you). The main problem was the inital bootstrap. I ended up booting endless times from the CDROM (boot cd:\\yaboot) before I got it right. yaboot & ybin where a great help of course. SuSE 7.3 with new iBook: experience

Anyone's interested in SuSE 7.3 prof. for PowerPC? I've one distribution for sale... Last week I tried to install SuSE on my iBook and after several tries I managed to install it that it worked. Also I'm not satisfied at all. Some things don't work as I wished. Yast2 detects the graphics adapter and X11 works fine, but Yast2 does not detect the network adapter and the modem correctly. Yast1 detects the network adapter and th modem but in further stepes it wasn't possible to setup X11. Using KDE as user seems to run without any problem but when I touched the keyboard layout in the control center I wasn't able to use the keyboard any more, even when I selected "mac" as the keyboard layout I couldn't type one character. Besides that the button for ejecting the CD drive doesn't work at all. And I didn't manage to use the CD/DVD drive for playing audio CDs... Then I didn't find a solution for switching off the trackpad-click-functionalitiy, I just wanted to use the trackpad for moving, not for clicking... During the several installtion processes I had to insert five from eight CDs; why didn't SuSE copy all the CDs on one DVD? The konfiguration of "lilo" ended with an error message like "Warning: couldn't write boot sector - continue with installation?". I continued and run "lilo" manually. Anyway, I rolled my system back to MacOS9/X due it's easy installtion and easy handling, especially the easy switching of different networking profiles... I'll try to find missing software somewhere out there in the web. Any suggestions for a powerful scheduler/addressbok application like M$Outlook? Right now I'm using the Palm software package under MacOS 9; well, it works but it has no built in e-mailer... As I said last week I offered to write an installation howto for running SuSE 7.3 on a new iBook without having any MacOS installed. Still interested? I'm not but I'd write one if you like; but it can take a while... -- Regards, Wolfgang

Dear Alex thanks for your mail, I will try to do that, will take some time. But: The strange thing is the following: I also installed Linux 7.3 on a Wintel PC, and there is the same effect. And even more strange: Everything worked perfect with Linux 7.2 on that PC (not a Mac)! However, there is no LInux PPC 7.2. Can the problem be caused by the new kernel in 7.3, and its older version can fix it. What do you think? It seems to me a strange bug in the system ???? Cheers Christian Am Sonntag den, 2. ssh Connection, Konsole freezes

Hi all Linux users, I installed on my G3 Powerbook, 2000 edition, the new SuSE Linux 7.3 for PPC. The installation worked fine. Also my T-DSL connection I could establish - on the FIRST run of the system. Rebooting the computer, that is on my SECOND run of the system, caused that the T-DSL connection did no longer work. I clicked on the internet symbol, there was this buzzing lightning, anf then it stopped again. No connection! Even more annoying was the following which I observed on the FIRST run, was the following: I started an ssh connection to a remote host, also a Linux System (7,2), I went through the directories, made several times the command 'ls' (very simple), and then the console just freezed. NOTHING worked any more. I had to kill the console. Does anybody have an idea how this can be fixed? I would appreciate any help! Christian -- Christian.Grosche(a)t-online.de

question about external drives

I am condiering purchasing an external Firewire drive to run my Suse 7.1 system. does suse 7.1 or 7.3 for that matter have the drivers/capabilities to use an external firewire drive? external scsi drives have been fine. Just curious :-) MARCUS
