Hello OpenSUSE-Team, The 14th LinuxDay in Dornbirn/Austria will take place on Nov. 24th 2012. We are seeking proposals for lectures (german). Interested speakers are invited to submit their proposals until Sep. 23rd. Details can be found here: http://www.linuxday.at/call-for-papers-2012 We are also interested in an openSUSE both. Ambassadors who want to contribute, please contact papers(a)linuxday.at! If none of the german speaking Ambassador finds the time to come to Dornbirn, which unfortunately happend last year, we would at least like to have some 12.2 DVD's to give away on LinuxDay (if that is possible). Hello everybody! We are a small team working on setting up a public cloud service to provide desktops and applications access through the web. The service is expected to go live-beta in 2013. In the meantime we have decided to periodically offer temporary services as demo-beta so that we can better test the technologies and the integrations we are working on. We hope that users will provide us feedbacks so that the final service will provide what users want. As a first demo-beta, we chose to start with our beloved openSUSE and are preparing to offer a time limited demo-beta for the lately released 12.2 KDE environment. Anybody interested can subscribe to our "openSUSE Beta" [1] offer from our site, http://www.yodasp.com, and get access to openSUSE 12.2 KDE systems to try them out for free. Please, read the "How does it work ?" description from the subscription page as this demo will be time-limited, restricted to a small number of users based on a FIFO subscription, and will offer dynamic systems where any uploaded data will be periodically deleted. Another interesting part is that we have chosen to use the wonderful ownCloud [2] workspace environment to get access to the openSUSE systems through the NoMachine FreeNX [3] technology. Ich habe soeben die open SUSE Distribution von Distrowatch.com heruntergeladen und enttäuscht festgestellt, daß das System im Live-Modus nicht Deutsch lokalisiert ist (bis auf die Tastaturbelegung)! Ich nehme openSuse als eine Distribution wahr, die sich nicht zuletzt an deutschsprachige Anwender richtet, und besonders an Anwender aus dem Ausbildungssektor (vielleicht sogar Windows-Nutzer). Diese Zielgruppe möchte aber dort abgeholt werden, wo sie sich befindet. Mir erscheint es deshalb nicht konsequent, den Anwendern nach einem Download von 3,2 GB zusätzlich ca. 500 MB für Updates des Systems aufzuzwingen, die ausschließlich die deutsche Lokalisierung betreffen. Die hätten noch locker auf die DVD gepasst! SCHADE, weshalb also dieser Umstand? [opensuse-marketing] Need some help with presentation for SFD. What subject to present?

Hello, I need your help on something. As you already know, 15th of September is Software Freedom Day. Although I added that we'll do something in Thessaloniki (my city), a friend from Florina called me that they'll make a day conference and if I want to go to make a presentation there. The audience will be doctors, school teachers, people that own a store and some locals. There will be media covering the event. Well, I planed to present how to change the daily programs that they use with open source (even financial ones). Unfortunately, now that I see the schedule, someone else will present the same subject (different title though). So I have 30 mins to present something. What possibly can I present openSUSE related that will be interested to the audience. Also, if there something ready (presentation file), I prefer that, since it's exams period for me and on Monday I must take a huge test. Thanks for your help. Green means go!!! Am strongly considering going to the upcoming SCALE 11 http://www.socallinuxexpo.org/scale11x/ The call for presentations has already gone out, and this time I'm seriously considering doing at least one (maybe two) presentaitons... - TCP/IP optimization and tuning, what every User from Home to Enterprise needs to know - HTML5/CSS3/Javascript apps, Is this the future of Linux Desktop? Well, at least the first one, and only maybe the second. Before I respond to the SCALE organizers, I thought I might touch base to see what openSUSE has planned, if booth support and more is needed.
