JA pages are ready for 10.1

Hi, everyone. It's Saturday morning in Japan. I have just renewed JA pages for downloading 10.1. Also JA-Making_a_DVD_from_CDs for the new version. wiki improvements

I was wondering if some improvements in the "handling" and the layout structure of the wiki can be made: * email-notification: is it possible to add an option to get an email alert when a page on my watch list is changed/deleted/moved etc.? * Category-Layout: I noticed that there is a huge vertical gap that makes the page look like it's actually an empty template. Of course once you know that it's not empty, you can just scroll down, but occasional visitors will get frustrated and leave before they even find out. Here's an example: [http://en.opensuse.org/Category:Configuration] * Language-bar(s): Is it possible to merge the "This page in [list of languages]" Box on the right and the "Other Languages" section in the left menu box to something less obtrusive? On some pages, like [http://en.opensuse.org/Translation_Team] the right language box interferes with the text (at least in Konqueror. Firefox renders it different). And instead of having even more languages permanently listed in the left menu box, something like a dropdown-menu with all the available translations would be better. * Internal links: Another thing I noticed about the left menu box: The actual Information for users ("Use SUSE Linux") holds three links (of which "Documentation" and "Support Database" should imho be merged anyway). The other links add up to a total of 18 plus the languages. Can't that be drastically reduced? These are the things I noticed so far, but I'm sure I can come up with more suggestions if you're interested ;) -- Gruß Andreas

Apart from the usual release notes and product description from AJ et all, is it worthwhile compiling a list of new groovy stuff in 10.1 for the wiki ? If we had a 'New in 10.1' page listing all the 'cool stuff' it would be a nice URL to point friends, bloggers, journalists at... good idea or bad? Cheers G

call for a full time "en" sysop

It may be simpler for me to write this because I can't be a candidate :-) I think we should have a full time english-wiki sysop. Full time don't mean he will spend all his time on the wiki, but that the wiki will be his first concern. and sysop mean he will have to make strategic changes, organisation ones, not than he should have to write the wiki himself, of course. http://en.opensuse.org/index.php?title=Welcome_to_openSUSE.org&action=histo… shows that several people share the front page update. this is probably not the better way for consistency and we know they have also very sharp work do do on the distribution itself. I don't care if the sysop is Novell or voluntary, but I would like to know his name. I think also than it's his responsability, aftyer all kinds of discussions, to make the necessary changes. specially on the blocked pages, he is the only who can do it. we are simply not enough, here, to speak of democracy or votes. We don't represent anybody than ourselves. of course, Novell can (must) keep the css control. the main point is than we need a referee :-).
