Subject: bug report on wiki, about Chinese Characters
To: opensuse-wiki(a)opensuse.org
Related pages:
http://en.opensuse.org/CN-*
Those are pages containing Chinese Characters. It's actually some
preliminary work for setting up a Chinese wiki, And unfortunately the
bug makes that impossible so far.
I'll use the page below to explain what the bug is like.
http://en.opensuse.org/CN-Frequently_Asked_Questions
It's Chinese translation for the English FAQ page.
I finished the translation at 14:26, 12 February 2006, after a couple
of times' edit. The page history is here:
http://en.opensuse.org/index.php?title=CN-Frequently_Asked_Questions&action…
I was using the browser Opera, whose default encoding code is UTF-8,
editing and posting. It seemed perfect when I just finished. And I did
visit the page a week later, it was still fine(both in Opera/firefox).
However, someday in March I went back again and found it all messed
up. Some characters ( not all) can not ne recognized, and seems
replaced by "?" or "?".(in Opera/firefox/IE)
According to the page history, nobody has touched it.
The same issue happens to all Chinese pages on the wiki, such as.
http://en.opensuse.org/CN-Communicatehttp://en.opensuse.org/CN-SDB:SDB
..............
all full of "?"s.
I'm not quite sure if the problem is related to encoding or fonts. As
I saw similar messed-up Chinese pages on the wiki when I first came
here, I suppose it an existing bug. Maybe it's related to storing
chars? Quite STRANGE.
Any insights? I'm willing to do anything like debug if needed.
Best wishes.
Hi, I think it will be interesting to have a page in wiki for each
language which include all the names of pages in the English edition. It
should be automaticaly generate, and could include if English pages have
been modified and other information.
The estructure of table for represent that could be anything like this:
#English page name#Updated (yes/no)#Date of last change#Date of last
translation (for the language)#Last translator#Actual manteiner#Asigned
to#Any other information
It's that possible? is there a page like this, already? I can't make it
because I haven't enought knowledge about programing language (but I
promise to translate all pages I can ;-) ).
I suggest that because I think it's too complicate to translate a page if
we don´t know which are untraslated, and I also think that is a good way
to control traslation (for a coordinator if it exist).
greatings, Santi
Hi,
I finish it :). Now my work meet minimal requirement. What must I do
now to have vi.opensuse.org works? Or only wait?
All translated pages attached with this email.

Hello,
please use the 'IW' template for linking to other languages for the pages
which are listed on http://en.opensuse.org/Translation_Team as required to be
translated and hence existing in every wiki - especially the welcome page!
Currently not all language wikis do so which makes adding a new language to
the most important pages of all wikis quite difficult / impossible.
Thanks,
Steve

Number of translators and translations is growing !
It would be time to think about moving their work in progress to
dedicated wiki for instance translations.opensuse.org.
Articles can be grouped in categories by language (Category:<language>)
or some other way, which will make administrative job easier once
translation is ready to go.
That will make en.opensuse.org easier to maintain too.

I have published image with some ideas how to simplify navigation and
better use the space, by grouping seldom used links, adding more common
names etc.
I would like to hear your opinions (here or article discussion page).

as long as we can't sort the special:category page, we need
to have no more than ~50 categories.
I propose to cut off the "SDB:" prefix _in categories_ only.
I don't see the SDB page having a sufficient particularity
to keep it
your advice?

The pages about USB are often overlapping, but the
treatement of the USB/hotplug changed from distro version,
so it's better to have several of them. I will so begin an
"USB portal" page ([[Portal:USB]]).
It will also act as a test on the "portal" way of life.
