Hi,
Is there a way to convert a wiki page into a format suitable for
offline reading or further processing (such as plain text or e.g.
asciidoc)?
Background of that question is that I think it would make sense for
some packages to have the content of e.g. README.SuSE in the wiki.
I'd still want to package an offline version that actually matches
the package at that point in time though.

I the getit page, online repos are indicated in an ill orderedmanner.
to find the official repos, somebody must go to "network install". This
is not natural is you installed aready the distro from the dvd and
want simply to get the updates/use the online repo afterward - on 10.2
there is no "community repository" yast entry as in 10.3
the worst is than there is a "package repositories" menu on the left
column, but it leads only to the "extra" repositories page.
so, the best solution should be to point the "package repositories"
link to a page with links to
* the official repos
* extra repos
or to add the official repos on the left menu (probably more difficult)
anyway, the left menu entry should be renamed "extra packages
reposotories"

Hello,
The openSUSE servers are changing fast, faster than the wiki can
do..., as do the way problems are handled :-) so I beg we need a
rewriting of some major wiki pages.
* I really don't understand the difference between the "Documentation,
Support, Support Database, Contact" menu entries in the en home page.
Support and contact should probably be merged under "communication",
database is a documentation part. "Documentation" is a "static" part
(RTFM), contact and/or communication is an active (Q&A) part.
* http://en.opensuse.org/Installation is now mainly managed by the
"get it" server. It should probably be intersting to have a new left
menu entry "post-install" with, may be, a lot of one clic links, like
"install compiz", "install video readers", "install community
repositories"... and a link "read community page" linking to the
mp3/lidvcss stuff in the community wiki.
however I didn'nt follow closely the one clic install stuff and don't
know exactly what one can do with it and how easy it's to setup. Sems
to me one of the most powerfull thing in the world :-))

While waiting some more days to pass by before I take another snapshot of
Popular pages, to get current usage of wiki articles as presented on popular
pages, I was looking around and found that new wiki user overwrote previous
entry with data for his laptop.
This is not good, but I really can't blame new users as current presentation
is very difficult to edit for anybody. Problem is:
1- monolithic table where one mistake breaks whole table
2- missing visible mnemonics during data entry
3- column width and row height depends on size of comments, which is not the
same for all models, openSUSE versions and configurations
4- indexing and sorting by laptop model, openSUSE version and architecture is
impossible
5- finding data for specific laptop is not easy
I would rearange whole HCL to use section titles for models so that they apear
in TOC, small table for overview of the most important data, and place under
the table for comments.
Sample is here:
http://en.opensuse.org/User:Rajko_m/Tests
The table allows to add comment inline with {{y}} {{n}} templates without
breaking other entries.
It is large and page may be long, but there is TOC and no need for scroll.
So, I would need opinion how it looks now and ideas how to improve
presentation.
For now it is easy to:
- edit table and page
-- it is easy to create page in text editor and than copy all to wiki
- find particular model
- find more about laptop on manufacturer web site
- see what works and what not
- link from outside, like this:

Hello
I just want to ask that if there was a language option for Simplified
Chinese on opensuse.org? I remembered there was but it disappears now. So
its because of my bad memory or there is no that option from beginning?
If there is no such option from the beginning, can I join the community to
work on creating one? Pls advise what kind of requirement for me to do
this.
Thanks,
Shuai

I added Documetation page to the Portal.
As Josh mentioned it looks like documentation portal, so why to reinvent
wheel.
It would be probably good to use Portal: as prefix for any page that is meant
as Portal. One day if needed it can be moved to separate name space.
I was thinking of purpose of portal pages.
What would be difference between normal index like
http://en.opensuse.org/HOWTOs and some new Portal:HOWTOs.
Former should point to the index of all articles in that category, but have
more content, like fields:
1- new added articles to the list
2- editor pick for article of the month with comment
3- the top list of the most visited articles last week, month, year
- (any other ideas)
The 3rd is relative easy to script.
Retrieve popular pages, grep file for names in the list, sort and publish
result.

Hello,
some things regarding the openSUSE map:
1.
FYI: I have just added sorting to the map userlist. Users are now sorted
alphabetically inside my little PHP script that fetches the map data
from the wiki.
2.
A question: I noted that someone [1] added autosponsor24(dot)de [2] to
the map. This page looks purely commercial, and I would vote for
removing this map entry because I consider it to be spam. (Other
opinions?)
3.
I also noted that http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Community/Map offers
several other languages - but those I tested led to an non-existing
page. Please fix the interwiki links or remove them if you don't have
this page translated.
4.
For the records: the map has currently 146 entries.
5.
Please add yourself to the map if you didn't already ;-)
Regards,
Christian Boltz
[1] Is there something like "cvs annotate" for the wiki? It's painful to
go through the history to find out who has added a specific line :-/
[2] No, I don't want to add another link to this page in the list
archives ;-)

[Serieller Anschluss] Mittlerweile ist (fast) alles USB. OK, es gibt
auch Adapter, aber die kosten wieder extra. Und der Rechner soll später
nicht aussehen wie ein Tannenbaum, mit einem Bündel herabhängender
Adaptern anstatt Lametta. [Ralph Müller in suse-linux]
