Isn't strange that so simple web page has such feature on link that
suppose to be PayPal.
I wish all the best to folk that click the link.

Eric,
The www.nabble.com is service that is reposting mails from opensuse.org
mail lists in the fashion that they appear like they originate on their
web forums. I don't use their services, so if you want to discuss
advertising, not only with me, but with other openSUSE contributors too,
please subscribe to opensuse-wiki list. The proper place might be also
opensuse-project mail list.
How to do that you can find on
http://en.opensuse.org/Communicate
page.

It was not only about you, but you are first with own web page listed on
en.opensuse.org. Advertising was never discussed in depth on openSUSE.
It was previous discussion related to attempts to post commercial links
that have nothing to do with openSUSE, but never about rules for people
that want to create and build their own small business around openSUSE.
That is the reason to post this answer on opensuse-wiki (note CC field).
I want others to give opinion too.
You are not alone, and more people might want to do the same, but don't
want to upset others, so we have to see how to solve this.
I think that any legitimate effort should be allowed, and even place
more prominent than user own page, but to prevent unnecessary
discussions of type "he can, why I can't", "this was allowed, why not
this too" we need answers to few questions:
- What is allowed, and what not, besides what is written on
http://en.opensuse.org/Legal
- Do we have to publish rules?
- Do we have to vote on every occasion, or we will use both, rules and
voting.
- Do we need openSUSE market place?
- What people would buy/sell/advertise?

Setup web page is not "just to get up and running" as your initial
effort contain a lot of elements that can be found very often on web
pages that exist for all other reasons, but to help visitors. Now it is
looking much better than few words and PayPal button, as it was in the
very beginning.

I do understand any legitimate effort, but also that building a trust
relationship in todays Internet is major problem and web page creation
is mix of art, technical knowledge and experience how to avoid many of
pitfalls.

Hallo,
likely not worth a big announcement: voting for Novell Bugzilla Reports is
now also possible for "openSUSE.org" reports (build service, wiki, AIs).
Bye,

Boys and Girls,
I've create http://en.opensuse.org/Xwinwrap in the wiki. Unfortunately,
I'm not the worlds greatest when it comes to documentation. Could I
please ask someone to help me make the page look all pretty. It then
needs to link from the Xgl page.
Thanks,
Magnus

Hello,
On the openSUSE front page, I would like to see what pages in the wiki
that are most popular, what new pages have been created recently,
perhaps most recommended or top rated pages etc.
This would make a good start for new (and even existing) users when
they hit the front page.
Is this at all possible to do with the current wiki, and if so, does
anyone else think it would be a good idea?
Cheers,
Magnus

You should be.
It will be our head line for a some time.
For translations this will not change much.
I hope that Frank or Martin will capture this.
So this would be correct version:
The openSUSE project is a worldwide community program sponsored by
Novell that promotes the use of Linux everywhere. It provides free and
easy access to the openSUSE distribution. Here you will find users and
developers, who all have the same goal in mind — to create and
distribute the world's most usable Linux.

hello
I don't know how does the wiki cache work, but I notice that
when I went to the wiki today, so just before registering,
the last document was dated jully 27 (recent document page).
I know a cache is needed, but I wonder if casual user,
coming from time to time to see news, with no reason of
registering, wont think nothing change in the wiki.
may be a one or two days cache would be enough?
thanks

Je sais qu'il faut un cache, mais je m'inquiète que les

writing the translation of the "hat" - the small text
presenting the project on the front page, I fall on problems
we should adress.
May be I'm too unquiet :-), but your advice is welcome.
The text is as follow (this is the version that was sent to
be translated):
TAB1="The
> href="http://en.opensuse.org/Project_overview">openSUSE
> project</a> is a worldwide community program sponsored by
> href="http://www.novell.com/" class="external text"
> title="http://www.novell.com" rel="nofollow">Novell</a>

> provides free and easy access to openSUSE. Here you will
> find a community of users and developers, who all have
> the same goal in mind—to create and distribute the

I have several concerns:
* I wonder if the use of the word "program" in the
presentation text is a good idea. It could make think that
we speak of the Linux code... Better should be the use of
"project", like this:
"OpenSUSE is a worldwide community project... The project
provides..."
*I have also problems with the word "community". At the
moment, "communautaire" and "communautarisme" (at least in
France) are used to qualify groups of peoples locked on
themselves, refusing to mix with others, leading for example
on the extremes to muslims terrorists, a very bad
connotation :-(
However I don't really know what to use as replacement :-(.
May be we could use it, but with some enforcement. For
example, we could use the following text (I cut off the
links for readability):
"openSUSE is a worldwide project sponsored by Novell that
promotes the use of Linux everywhere.
The project provides free and easy access to a Linux
distribution called also openSUSE.
Here you will find an open community of users and
developers, who all have the same goal in mind: create and
distribute the world's most usable Linux."
I know this can seems redundant, but this is our flag, it
must be specially clear.
