[opensuse-wiki] [Fwd: Translation for the new frontpage] - the presentation text
writing the translation of the "hat" - the small text presenting the project on the front page, I fall on problems we should adress. May be I'm too unquiet :-), but your advice is welcome. The text is as follow (this is the version that was sent to be translated): TAB1="The
href="http://en.opensuse.org/Project_overview">openSUSE project</a> is a worldwide community program sponsored by href="http://www.novell.com/" class="external text" title="http://www.novell.com" rel="nofollow">Novell</a> that promotes the use of Linux everywhere. The program provides free and easy access to openSUSE. Here you will find a community of users and developers, who all have the same goal in mind—to create and distribute the world's most usable Linux."
I have several concerns: * I wonder if the use of the word "program" in the presentation text is a good idea. It could make think that we speak of the Linux code... Better should be the use of "project", like this: "OpenSUSE is a worldwide community project... The project provides..." *I have also problems with the word "community". At the moment, "communautaire" and "communautarisme" (at least in France) are used to qualify groups of peoples locked on themselves, refusing to mix with others, leading for example on the extremes to muslims terrorists, a very bad connotation :-( However I don't really know what to use as replacement :-(. May be we could use it, but with some enforcement. For example, we could use the following text (I cut off the links for readability): "openSUSE is a worldwide project sponsored by Novell that promotes the use of Linux everywhere. The project provides free and easy access to a Linux distribution called also openSUSE. Here you will find an open community of users and developers, who all have the same goal in mind: create and distribute the world's most usable Linux." I know this can seems redundant, but this is our flag, it must be specially clear. jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html http://lucien.dodin.net http://fr.susewiki.org/index.php?title=Gérer_ses_photos --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org

Try this: "The openSUSE project is a worldwide community program sponsored by Novell that promotes the use of Linux everywhere. It provides free and easy access to openSUSE. Here you will find users and developers, who all have the same goal in mind — to create and distribute the world's most usable Linux." It tells the same without (too many) critical words. I hope that remain word will not spoil the impression ;-) -- Regards, Rajko. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org
I missed one word: "The openSUSE project is a worldwide community program sponsored by Novell that promotes the use of Linux everywhere. It provides free and easy access to openSUSE distribution. Here you will find users and developers, who all have the same goal in mind — to create and distribute the world's most usable Linux." -- Regards, Rajko. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-wiki+help@opensuse.org
