Hello, As Carlos pointed out, I had accidentally hijacked an earlier thread, so I am starting this new one up. Here is the original message: I have implemented Google Custom Search on enstage.opensuse.org, and I am personally very happy with the results. To try it out, you can visit http://enstage.opensuse.org/Portal:GoogleSearch and try searching on anything you want. It is about a thousand times better than what we have, and with the better relevance ranking, namespace searching is no longer an issue. While the current search is advertisement supported, I am nearly positive that we can get ad support removed. It seems that Google is pretty willing to do this for non-profits. What does everyone think? If you don't have access to the staging site, I will be more than happy to send you a screen shot of the search page. If everyone is on board, I will ask Thomas to edit the theme to make it the default search, and we'll send it live. Good Day, So here is an update on https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=625677. After contacting the author about the spelling suggestion issue I was having, I finally got it to work. As an added bonus, I have discovered and enabled the related articles feature as well. With these features working, Lucene is definitely a better option than Sphinx now. All the "new" wikis on stage (en, dewiki, and languages) are now using Lucene search. The enstage wiki has the most content of the three, so you can get the best idea of how well it works by going there. However, those of you who are fluent in German should also try dewiki, so that you can see how well the search deals with German stemming and stopwords. The indexing takes 45-50 seconds on stage, so I'm expecting it to take about a minute to index the live English wiki, and probably another 30 seconds for the production dewiki and languages. Once everything is transitioned over to the new wiki structure, total indexing will probably be in the 10 minute range. I plan to put the indexer on a daily cron, so all changes should show up in the search within 24 hours. I am setting up a meeting with the data center to go over an OS upgrade plan so that we can get this going as soon as possible. -Matt

Onto a happier subject... :) I have written a shell script for the 1.16 update, which just so happens to work for migration of old wikis. The script takes about 15 seconds per wiki. It takes a little longer to get them on the Lucene search, but I could have all the wikis substantially upgraded in about 3 minutes. Currently a number of pictures on the Main page of nl.opensuse.org are not displayed, although they have been uploaded. Accessing these pictures directly via ...org/Bestand:<name-of the file> gives the message that the files does not exits, however uploading is not possible. I copied the content of en.o.o/Help:Namespace to nl.o.o/Help:Namespace, however almost at the end there are lines like: *'''[{{fullurl:Special:AllPages|namespace=0}} Main]''' which are expanded in the English wiki to http://en.o.... but in the Dutch wiki as http://wiki.o.... I also like to change the status of the main page and later other pages to something better that Draft (in Dutch Werkversie). I can't find how to do that or I don't have the rights. -- fr.gr. [opensuse-wiki] Update to 1.16

Hello, I have update enstage, languagestage, and dewikistage to the 1.16 release. Also, I have updated all extensions to their latest version. I have played around a bit, and everything appears to be working OK. I will be working on performance testing this new release, as it has a couple of tuning options available. In the meantime, could all of you who have access to the staging wikis conduct a user acceptance test? Although this update is not nearly as major as the one done back in November, a few things may not be working as intended, especially extensions. Thomas, you are listed as the UAT approver in Clarity, so I am really looking to you to give the final approval on this release. As soon as I get that, I will copy over the latest skin updates and completely overwrite the wiki.o.o directory in SVN. I can then check that out onto the production server and use my migration script to update the individual wikis. Speaking of migration, who is giving the final word on which wikis to move over to the new system? I see some requests from individuals, but I am still not hearing any consensus. You can leave it up to me if you want, but I will be liable to just update everything in place ; ) -Matt

Er is echter een probleem na het inloggen, dan is de oude layout er weer. Misschien ben ik ongeduldig, maar ik heb het toch maar even op de lijst opensuse- wiki(a)opensuse.org gemeld. Ik denk dat het nog steeds verstandig is om de Engelse paginatitel te handhaven. Dat maakt het gemakkelijk als je ziet dat er een Engelse pagina is gewijzigd om naar de Nederlandse pagina te gaan. Je hoeft alleen in de URL "en" in "nl" te veranderen om bij de juiste pagina uit te komen. Jouw idee om in de pagina een aanwijzing te zetten dat je er mee bezig bent is OK. Dus ga je een pagina bewerken dan zet helemaal onderaan, als commentaar,  . Helemaal onderaan omdat die tekst als eerste zichtbaar werd als je de pagina opende om deze te bewerken. Ik hoop dat die commentaartekst het juiste format heeft als commentaar. Als het in de nieuwe wiki anders is dan gewoon in de eerst zichtbare tekst. Dat was het voor nu. I just wanted to let you know that i'm an active translator for the dutch wiki (NL). Stopped long time ago since i knew the transition was planned. I'd really like to get the dutch wiki to cope with the english one, but i have no idea where or how to start. So i guess when someone with some more knowhow creates the minimum/basic pages i could start from there. It's very unclear if all pages should be rebuild from scratch or adapted and get them in the new wiki.
