I am getting ready to attempt an install of SuSE PPC 7.3 on my UMAX Pulsar. Does anyone have a url for miboot? A Google search brings up oodles of references, but I can't seem to find a home url. Cheers, Brian

Mozilla upgrade from version 0.9.4-4 to 1.0 w/apt4rpm.

Anyone on the list know if it is possible to use apt4rpm to upgrade Mozilla from the 0.9.4-4 version that came with SuSE 7.3 to Mozilla 1.0 full (mail, irc, etc.) and any apps dependent on the earlier Mozilla libs, without touching anything else on my system? Is it possible to do this in connection with dumping Netscape 4.78-34 (also standard with SuSE 7.3) and moving my plug-ins to the new Mozilla 1.0? In case you are wondering, I have browser overload ;-) Thanks in advance. Cheers, Brian

Emulation for Mac OS 8 or above on Intel SuSE 7.3 Pro?

I realize this is a little OT, but is anyone on the list aware of any emulation software that can run Mac OS 8 or above on an Intel SuSE 7.3 Pro system? I am thinking of a solution like Connectix' VirtualPC or VMware. Hell, we can run Win on the Mac in emulation, so why not vice versa? I am aware of something called Bochs that is out there, but my understanding is that it is too immature. Cheers, Brian

OT - does MacOSX work

Hello, Sorry if it is off-topic but I have problem I suppose most of you work with MacOSX I am very happy with SuSE-7.3, mostly on Intel-PC because there are more soft available for SuSE (i386) I tested MacOSX on a volume of a laptop G3 (another volume hosts SuSE-7.3) I tested mail.app on MacOSX: it worked first not too badly and I could easily read my Cyrus-IMAP folder. But ... : mail.app suddenly crashed. If it was Linux, no great problem, just a little "kill" and everything starts again but not with MacOSX: everything crashed: no more folders in my volumes, all the folders were replaced by del****.** folders. Impossible to boot except with the install CD Problem with reinstalling: I don't want to lose my partition with SuSE-7.3 that never crashed. The MacOSX lists don't seem to be aware of the problem or seem not to be active. Thus: questions 1) did anyone have this problem of "MacOSX fatal crash"? 2) how to get rid of the "del****.**" folders or restore the original folders? 3) or how to reinstall MacOS9 and MacOSX 10.1 without erasing and losing my SuSE-Linux partition? It is a pity Apple did not ask professionnals like SuSE to make a distribution for MacOSX -- Alain Barthélemy SBB-ISP

xhfs: command not found

Hi Everybody, Since I'm doing it on a Macintosh I would like to be able to have access to data on hfs-volumes (be it ZIP-disks, floppies, or hard drives). I've got "hfsutils" installed, and that seems to work OK. "xhfs", the graphical front-end, doesn't seem to be there however [bash: xhfs: command not found]... How do I get "xhfs" to work? Hello, When I try to mount my floppy drive I get the error "mount: /dev/fd0 is not a valid block device" Can anyone tell me where this might be coming from? I'm running SuSE 7.3 Rose Humphrey

hello list i've posted this question before and have had many suggestions from support at suse, but still cannot get my screen image to stop splitting. i've already changed the following in midnight commander in the /etc/X11/XF86config in the section monitor i've changed the horizsync from 15-35 to 31-50 and the vertrefreshfrom 30-67 to 42-68. in the section modes i've removed the modeline. have now only section "modes" identifier "modes[0]" endsection in the section screen i have the section defualtdepth 15 subsection "display" depth 15 modes "1024x768" endsubsection in the section device i've changed the driver from "ati" to "fbdev" all to no avail. does anyone on the list have experience with installing linux 7.3 ppc on a wallstreet powerbook? i can't get this to work for the life of me. thanks in advance for any assistance. jason kahn

However, I thought it might be wise to report my problem to Benjamin Herrenschmidt first. After all he made BootX. His suggestion was to change the filetype of the BootX Extension from "scri" to "INIT". I used ResEdit to do this, and guess what: it worked! I am now able to boot into Linux through the Extension. Hi All, I've recently installed SuSE Linux for PPC (ver- sion 7.3) on my PPC 7200. On the distro I found a copy of the BootX Application aswell as the Extension. The Application works fine, but the Extension unfortunately does not. When restart the machine the BootX-dialog does appear, but when I select Linux the monitor goes black -- it actually seems to switch itself off. This is strange because booting up Linux through the BootX Application functions fine (vmlinux selected, root device: /dev/sdb8). Of course I've contacted SuSE Support but after having tried their best they wrote: > I'm sorry, I don't have a clue, what is happe- > ning or why it isn't working, we never encoun- > tered such a problem. In the mean time I've tried installingn MacBugs, but it doesn't even get into that, the monitor just dies leaving me no other option than to restart the machine... Mozilla error

Hello, I've just updated to the latest Gnome rpms from the SuSE ftp site (June 21st) and get this error when trying to run Mozilla: Cannot find mozilla runtime directory. Exiting. Also, when trying to edit Nautilus preferences, it quits on me with this error: Eel-ERROR **: file eel-font-picker.c: line 781 (global_font_list_get): assertion failed: (global_font_list != NULL) aborting... Aborted Any ideas on how to fix these problems? Thanks very much, Joss --

LAN on PowerMac (Performa) 9400

Hi Suse-PPC-Users, I have Problems installing any network-card on my PM 6400. The "onbaord" Apple LAN-Card in the CSII-Slot works in the moment after the Installation, ut if I use yast to configure something from this time on my network-card is death. So I bought me another card with a Realtek 8139 chipset. With this card its the same .... it does not work .... But I don´t gave up. I installed Linux on my G3 B/W 350 with the onbaord card it was like on the PM6400, it does not work. So I tried here the Realtek-card. and the result -->> It works. So cann someone of you give me some tips or reason, how i can install one of my network-cards on my PM 6400 ?!?! I Work with an PM 6400 with 64 MB RAM a 1GB SCSI-HD and a 2GB IDE HD I use Suse PPC 7.1 thankx for all. **************************************************************************** Und nun das ganze noch in Deutsch. Also ich habe ein Problem mit meinem PowerMac (oder Performa) 6400. Ich bekomme es nicht geregelt, irgendeine Netzwerkkarte auf dieser Mühle zu installieren. Weder die Onbaord (die vom CSII-Slot) noch eine PCI-Karte mit Realtek 8139-Chip. Beide Karten laufen unter MacOS9.2 wunderbar, aber unter Linux 7.1 tut keine was. OK die Apple-Karte funktioniert direkt nach einer Neuinstallatio, solange ich noch nichts mit Yast verändert habe. Zum Test habe ich das ganze auch noch auf meinem G3 B/W 350 mit fast nem GB RAM versucht. Die Apple-Eigene Karte geht hier auch nicht. Aber die Realtek karte läuft hier fast einwandfrei. Ich kann pingen usw. nur bekommt er das mit dem routen noch nicht ganz hin. Ich kann keine Webseiten anschauen, obwohl er eine Verbindung zum Router herstellt. Hat jemand ne Tip oder ne Idee, wie ich den 6400 mit einer von beiden Karten zum laufen bekomme ???
