Hallo, fuer ein Projekt in meinem Praktikum soll ich Linux auf einer RS/6000 (43P140) installieren. Ich habe es mit mehreren Distributionen versucht, leider komme ich nur bis zum entpacken des Linuxkernels und danach haengt die Maschine (im Display bei F05). Der Rechner hat folgende Ausstattung: 320 MB Ram, CD-ROM (SCSI) und 2 SCSI HDD (4 und 9 GB). Mir wuerde es auch reichen, wenn ich den Kernel gebootet bekaeme und dann ueber FTP von einem Server installieren kann. Wer haette ein paar Tips fuer mich? gdb gives a segv fault on SUSE 7.1 ppc

Hi, I am running gdb 5.0.14 version( which comes with suse 7.1 cd) on SUSE 7.1 for PPC. When I try to debug a multi-threaded program as below, GDB gives a segmentation violation fault. problem with 2.4

Hi I ve a problem with kernel 2.4 (suse ppc 7.1 out of the box) on a power mac G3 beige in fact I can t boot with the kernel 2.4 (only whith 2.2.x) during the boot the screen turn black at a moment (not always a the same moment), it seems to be a video problem. I use the integrated video card (framebuffered), but i've 2 PCI video card too (without any screen connected). do you think i have to remove these cards or to give the kernel some parameters (and which one) help THX

Two problems with KDE

Hi, I'm running SuSE Linux 7.1 Kernel 2.4.2 on a PowerMac 6400. Only variance from the distributions install is the addition of Gnome 1.4, installed from rpms off the SuSE GNOMES site. Recently, two odd things have begun happening. Firstly, I can no longer adjust the CD volume slider in kmix. It's permanently stuck at zero. This started when I noticed that audio cds wouldn't play. I haven't a clue as to how to go about fixing this. Attempts to update to KDE 2.1 have resulted in DCOP server failing to start up. Secondly, in my / directory (not /root) two invisible directories have started to popup name ".kde" and ".kde2". I've browsed through the archives of the list and found mention of this happening to others, but I couldn't track down the solution. Any help would be appreciated. Anyone know why all of a sudden MACOS is not recognizing my SuSE 6.4 CDs? I installed from them, so I know they use to work. Now when I boot into MACOS, with the CD in the drive, I get a message saying that "The disk is unreadable by this Macintosh. So you want to initiakize it?" Well, if I hit cancel, it ejects the CD. Anyone have any ideas? Also, for some reason, when I press the 'c' key, the system does *not* boot from CD. HELP! Yast cannot find partition

Hi, I am trying to install 7.1 on a beige G3 MT. I partitioned the hard disk by, hm what's the english name, "Laufwerke konfigurieren" everything looked fine. Then the computer starts quite normally into the installer but it can't find the device. I tried to partition the bl.. disk with pdisk and the installer of LinuxPPC. pdisk found the disk but afterwards yast didn't. The LinuxPPC installer failed completely. I'm rather desperate. I'd appreciate any idea. Thiemo -- root weiss, was er tut. Wicht weiss es nicht. Halb Wicht, halb root. Geht das gut? thiemo(a)gmx.ch

Graphics on RS/6000 with 7.1

I have successfully installed 7.1 on a IBM RS/6000 43P model 150, and it is running fine now. I had some problems at first but I have got most of them sorted now. My main consern is the graphics on the machine. I am not sure what graphics card is in the machine. I think it is a GXT2000p, but I don't know for certain. I never checked while AIX was on it, and there is nothing on the card that would point me in the right direction. there is a heatsink/fan glued on the chip, and I don't want to take that off. Now. The display is set to 1280X1024 - Perfect. the colour depth is 8 bit. I can live with that, but the refresh is 60hz. And that is pure pain. Specially on a 21" monitor :( It's running with the generic/OpenFirmware fb device, and i can't seem to change this.. Is there really no way of changing this? PS. using kernel 2.4.6 and X 4.10 Regards, Tor

7.1 on PM7600 with G3-upgrade?

Hi, i am trying to install Suse 7.1 on an PM7600 with LittleJoe G3-Upgradeboard. I am starting the installation from ramdisk but when it tries to start yast (now matter wether 1 or 2) I always get an error-message. When I try to install via NFS, I get an error-message, too. When I insmod rtl8139 and the kernel-messages pop up, they are always starting with something like "bad extfs2 on ramdisk. Trying to write behind last block". Thats not exactly what it says, but nearly :). I can´t look now. Could anyone tell me what could be the problem? Thanks, Philipp
