[opensuse-marketing] Holiday Season Banner

As our current banners around the web are starting to get stale, I suggest we create some holiday web banners. They would be posted at: - Forums - www.opensuse.org landing page - Facebook Timeline cover (851x315 px) - Google+ - icons for Twitter, Facebook Profile Pic, etc. I recommend that we be careful though. Do not make the banner religious, do not target a specific religion (for example, I'm Jewish, so Christmas means nothing.) It should either be broad (Season's Greetings + Happy New Year) or inclusive (All major holidays represented across multiple denominations). The latter one being more difficult and challenging to do. Currently, the openSUSE Election Committee is using these spaces to broadcast the upcoming Board elections. But we'll be finished with that by Dec. 17th, so new holiday banners can be posted at that time. It might be a good idea to review and develop time-appropriate banners that can be used later down the line throughout the year so we don't scramble with creativity at the last minute. Thanks! Dear ambassadors and other marketing folk, If you've read my blog you know why I have been rather quiet lately. But I did work: in the last weeks I collected a big list of our events to help us in the openSUSE Team in SUSE decide how and where to put our effort. While going through that list, I found all these awesome reports and blogs. A really cool highlight is one made by Marina Latini from Italy about the Cerea Fair: http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Cerea_Fair There is a super cool youtube video of the event and a link to a big blogpost and many images! I like to get the following article on news.opensuse.org reviewed: https://news.opensuse.org/?p=14600&preview=true&preview_id=14600&preview_no… I contains some information about the scheduled downtime of parts of our infrastructure. I hope it is not too confusing. We will hopefully get the openSUSE landing page (www.opensuse.org) and some important wiki pages migrated to another data center - but this can just be coordinated during normal work hours next week. To keep our users informed as soon as possible, I like to publish the news as soon as possible - and adapt the article once we have something new there. If someone finds the time to go through my ugly English there and maybe enhance the text with some new pictures, I would really appreciate this. Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, ich möchte OpenSUSE gerne mit einer Spende unterstützen, habe jedoch nur die Möglichkeit gefunden, eine Box (z.B. 12.2 mit DVD und Handbuch etc.) von Open Press zu erwerben. Von diesem Geld soll ein Teil an das Projekt abgeführt werden. Könnten Sie mir bitte sagen, um wieviel € es sich denn hierbei handelt. Ich habe eine Box für knapp 40 € bei Amazon erworben und hoffe natürlich, dass auch mindestens die Hälfte beim Projekt landet. Lieber wäre es mir, ich könnte direkt auf ein Konto meine Spende überweisen, da DVDs und Handbuch zwar nett sind, ich sie aber eigentlich nicht dringend benötige. Besteht vielleicht auch die Möglichkeit per Überweisung zu spenden? Heya, I went to two events in Berlin, short reports on them: http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:QtDevDays_2012_event http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Summit_of_New_Thinking_Berlin_2012_event The summit of new thinking was very much like Re:Publica last year, where I got the idea for the Future Media track at oSC. Lots of good contacts here. We could think about organizing an Open Source track there in the future with high-level FOSS topics. There are lots of business and creative people there - of the likes who organize and attend 'TED'-like events (I actually met the organizer of TED Youth Europe). Cheers, Jos
