[opensuse-marketing] Meeting Postponed: New meeting date proposals

Hi folks, Due to a number of our team members being in another meeting that went into overtime, we have postponed our regularly scheduled meeting for today. As this is the last meeting of the year, we should definitely try to gather around one last time and share some virtual eggnog. So, I'd like to propose 3 optional dates for consideration by the team: - Thursday, December 16 at 16:00 UTC - Monday, December 20 at 16:00 UTC - Tuesday, December 21 at 16:00 UTC Keep in mind that December 21 is our Social Media Collaboration Day. However, I don't foresee it as a problem for us to take a one-hour break from Collaboration to talk about other things in the team. But it is up to you guys. I'll post the results of your preferences by Wednesday at 21:00 UTC. The Association of Greek Users and Friends of FS/OSS and the Greek openSUSE Community invite you all to the presentation of the openSUSE Project. The presentation will have 4 parts: -What is the openSUSE Project? -Presentation of the Greek openSUSE Community and how to become a part of it. -Presentation of the Revolutionary OBS (Building System). -Installation of the openSUSE Distribution. Greetings, Here we go: Software freedom Day Event Date : 16th October, 2010. Event Sponsors : NUI.fr openSUSE Ambassadors : Jimmy Pierre Helpers : Laurence Seigneury, Johnny Castel, Jr. Event Details Tell us about the event, What did you do? : Demonstration of installation of openSUSE 11.3, open office, chess & games, yast, ssh, WordPress, repositories, wi-fi etc. How many DVDs taken and distributed? : 100 and distributed 52 How many people were there at the event ? 27 (France was on strike, no petrol, no trains, busses, tramways, flights (http://www.emorywheel.com/detail.php?n=29085 ) even against all odds, we were present as scheduled. How did you promote the Event? Facebook : No Twitter : No Others : Usual channels (forums, rss feeds to web sites and our four domain names nui.fr jmll.fr jmll.org, jmll.info , no radio, no newspapers as they had other bones to gnaw) Any Interesting Story you will like to share with us? : Yes, two people drove 87 kms to come to see us and I learnt later that they heard about us on the radio for the last event 1.e 18th September and kept track of what we were doing. A young man took a dvd for her grandma Myrtha, aged 81. We had a sort of Jam session (not food related, but IT) with chess players who needed Internet for a party. So openSUSE was there for their party. Did you have a booth? : NUI was the only LUG present. Who staffed the booth? All of the above. Would you go again? Yes, 27th November and 1_th Decembre next. What more can you do to make it better? Swap our 16 or so boxes into laptops because it takes too much time to setup the room. Get hold of goodies. Other Comments like Will you blog about the event - and where? Who staffed the booth? Did you have a talk? Which topic? Would you organize again? We were too eager to go back home. I distributed some dvds of openSUSE and convinced them to play at home ☺ We fighted with smeegol for a lady who wanted to sync her iPhone, this is another story. We had a young man who has a lot of IT problems and he did monopolized some of us to sort his laptop. Thanks God, it was a Dell, so no esoteric material to configure. [opensuse-marketing] Article to encourage non-technical participation in openSUSE/FOSS

Hi folks, I'm writing up an article with the aim of encouraging non technical people to participate in projects. I'm trying to keep the tone very light and fun. It's just a dump of ideas right now and needs to be structured. I have no idea where I'll submit it. Possibly Linux.com, or maybe a print magazine (Linux Format?) Please feel free to add your suggestions/comments and if you add much material, leave your name for due credit. If you have any good quality, publishable images taken at events these would be great too. If anyone has a non-technical partner who regularly participates in FOSS work I'd be very happy to hear their comments. Hi all, Anyone interested in writing an article? The upcoming openSUSE 11.4 release, currently on kernel 2.6.37RC something, will have the patches mentioned here: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=linux_2637_video&num=1 backported to the stable kernel as much as needed. They are currently already available. It might be a nice article, you can base it on the phoronix article and the links they put in there and ask the kernel dev's. [opensuse-marketing] "openSUSE Linux"

Hi, I was just giving out a few DVDs to some Linux newbies, and one of them asked , "So what is it that is different in openSUSE Linux?" I am not looking for an answer to that here. I am just asking if "openSUSE Linux" is correct usage. I have encountered the phrase in other places too, some email sigs, and visiting cards. We mostly say "openSUSE is a Linux distro...". afaik, "openSUSE Linux is a ..." sounds corny. I'd appreciate an official stance.
