I would like to know also if you can send me those dvds in about 9 days, before the event obviously. [opensuse-marketing] The effects of marketing via Twitter

A survey was shown with some interesting results about the effects of tweeting. http://edition.cnn.com/2010/TECH/social.media/10/12/wired.tweets.ignored/in… Of particular interest is the part where they talk about any tweets past one hour largely go unnoticed. THis is an important point for us to consider as we tweet and talk about events in openSUSE. I've always said in the past its not a good idea for everyone to tweet all at once. Its better to spread out your tweets and try to target specific timezones when you know your followers are most likely to see what you have posted. This is known as attention-deficit marketing and its a very real and ever-increasing phenomenon in marketing where if you don't have a person's attention at the exact moment that you are conveying your message, you can pretty much say goodbye to your time and effort on that moment. Tweeting remains an important tool for us, but it becomes ever more clearer that we need strategic and plentiful tweets. This is something I wrote to an internal ML and was asked to forward it to oS-Marketing. Cheers, Stephen | Just wanted to post a follow up report on our experience at the Utah Open | Source Conference this past weekend (Oct 7 - 9). | | First, I'd like to thank Alan and Darren for the time they spent at the | booth. Its nice not running a booth by yourself :) | | The MVP of our booth would have to go to the suse studio team and their | kiosk. I think I talked to more people this year than I have the last 3 | years combined. Looking back on the last several conferences I've attended | the top question asked, with some variations, is "Why should I use openSUSE?" | or "What makes openSUSE better than Fedora or Ubuntu?". With the kiosk the | top question became, "What is this?". There was a very positive response | with many compliments to the project. By the end of the conversation many | commented on the fact that they hadn't used openSUSE in a while maybe they'd | try it again". It was definitely a draw for those that hadn't used linux | before. | | There were also those that were, are, or might be future customers of our | enterprise products that we were able to talk to as well. I believe that | this benefited both the openSUSE project as well as our enterprise products. | | Mike was great enough to donate bags to the conference again for the 3rd | year now (if I remember correctly). I've had many people come up and thank | us for supporting the conference and providing the bags. It feels like the | attitude towards us is becoming more friendly, so a huge thanks to Mike for | this. | | Also, a big thanks Alexia for helping put this together and providing all of | the swag and making sure everything arrived at the conference. Hi All, I have noticed a couple of things during the past few days which I will like to share with you all Point 1 is The way we write articles on release, its not as catchy as either fedora or ubuntu or even mint While ubuntu picks up small things like small buttons that are available and stuff like that and fedora 13 has come with a lot of more security tools, we dont have something special to say after all how long can we survive by writing about YaST and OBS. Also YaST is taken as a very difficult thing by most of the people even though it is one of the easiest. We need to take an approach where we avoid words like advanced and invite words like simplicity. This is missing on almost every article I have come across. I think we can think of an approach as and when our strategy is completed Point 2 is a meager one but the Promo DVDs which are distributed to ambassadors can be used to replace the dvds. The only reason I suggest is that openSUSE Promo DVD = installation + Live GNOME + Live KDE whereas openSUSE DVD at net = installation These few things I think might help on our next release. I will later on get back on this with proper testing. Thanks anyone, I will give in some feedback later on, when I fix this. I have some packages that can be added to the file which translates the package names (ex: pkgconfig vs pkg-config, GConf2 vs gconf2, etc). To whom should I submit the diff ? Thanks all once more.
