[opensuse-kde3] Missing writing accents

Hello List, how can I get back the ability writing accents on my KDE3-desktop? My System is openSUSE 13.1 with KDE3 (3.5.10 release 262) from inofficial Suse-repos. I'm using the keyboard layout with dead keys. Under KDE4 all applications can work with accents. Under KDE3 there is no application writing accents. Writing accents is active (kcontrol). Any hints (or is this behaviour a bug)?. [opensuse-kde3] Default SDDM cannot be customized or replaced without KDE4 or Plasma?

I run my OpenSuSE machines with either KDE3 or Trinity desktops. After installing Leap 42.2 recently, I am unable to get KDM to run, and there does not seem to be any way to customize the preinstalled SDDM (to prevent it displaying login IDs) or to replace it, either. I'm guessing that its binary is imbedded in the login process, even though it wasn't installed as part of KDE4 or Plasma (which I didn't install and don't want). I used the YaST /etc/sysconfig editor component to attempt to change the display manager to kdm, but that has no effect. How can I (preferably) replace SDDM with KDM, or at least configure SDDM so that it doesn't display login ID information? I was able to install the package containing SDDM so that I could see the documentation and configuration file (/etc/sddm.conf), but modifying this file to suppress userid display has no effect. Also, /etc/sddm.conf says that it will display theme maui, but it displays the OpenSuSE wallpaper (with the lightbulb), so it's pretty clear that SDDM isn't reading its config file. :-( Here it is. [opensuse-kde3] Make KDE3 aware of non-KDE programs?

My favourite text editor is an Xwindows program called X2, which I launch from either the Konsole or from an application button on my panel. I would like, if possible, to make KDE aware that (an) instance(s) is/are running when I log out, so that X2 can be restored at the next login. Is there a way to do that? [opensuse-kde3] Other Bug to Fix - /usr/lib64/libjack.so.0 crash that takes kde sound theme sounds out.

All, We need a KDE bug tracker to collect all these nit that need fixing. One other nit is a libjack.so.0 crash that will regularly occur once during a session. It may take a day for the bug to appear, but on access to sound them sounds (no one in particular, then a kcrash report appears) The file catching the crash is libjack0-1.9.9.5-5.11.x86_64 from OSS. Now sound is kde theme sounds are dead until you restart the desktop. I've attached the backtrace I've saved: -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Nothing appeared on taskbar or system tray to facilitate knowledge of or safe removal of attached removable media. Then, I put in a DVD disc, window popped up asking what to do, I answered new window, and the content of the already open Konq window showed content of the DVD, with no chance of the back button to return anywhere. Content of stick was no longer anywhere to be found. Nothing appeared on taskbar or system tray to facilitate knowledge of or ejection of attached disc. 1-does the above describe what should happen with Konq windows when two removable media are inserted and "new window" is the selection in each case? 2-what's missing that nothing appeared in the system tray after inserting either removable media? I tried adding and 1 stick, plus 1 "CD" (generically labeled), plus 1 DVD (correctly labeled) appeared in the tray. Trying to safely remove the stick succeeded to umount, but (kio_media_mounthelper) reported both successful unmounting, and that the non-ejectable device could not be ejected. On ejecting the DVD, the tray still shows the phantom CD, confirmed by mount command output: /dev/sr0 on /mnt type iso9660 (ro,relatime). [opensuse-kde3] [42.2] upgrade from 42.1

Helo World! I tryed to upgarade my 42.1 intallation to 42.2 but it did not work at all. I could install 42.2 from scratch, but it would be nice to re-install all the packages I added past the "one click-install of KDE3" with "rpm", "yum" or "zypper". How could I get edit a command built from /var/log/zypp/history. Can someone tell me, please, what should I get from this history file, excluding the dependency added files like libraries (that will probably have an other version number) ? After I put in a FAT32 USB stick and choose open in whatever, normal user can safely remove from the system tray object. Permission is denied as normal user if attached external EXT3 HD similarly, that otherwise can be used as expected, to the same USB port, and even though normal user is a member of group 'disk', and after adding user to wheel group. https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-kde3/2015-10/msg00000.html et seq was unhelpful. [opensuse-kde3] Nostalgia - Installed Compiz just for fun -- it works! (minus some of the old plugins)

All, I enjoyed compiz immensely when in came out in the (10.3?) days. I found old compiz 6 rpms. I liked the extent to which you could tailor the desktop switch, scale windows, etc. to just how you wanted. I liked the emerald themes, to the extent I even created a dozen or so. I have not used compiz since 11.0 days in any serious manner. But I noticed compiz 8.8 and fusion-icon in the KDE repo and thought I would give it a try. It worked! Fairly well. Gone are desktop-cylinder and desktop-sphere. Gone are photo-wheel, ring-switcher, shift-switch, and wobbly windows no longer has a minimize effect option. But the cube works fine. I did have it run away and take a 55% of the CPU once while messing with setting while it was running... We will see if that continues. There were a few artifacts left on occasion and the decidedly GTK3 color dialog will not let you select many custom colors (it jumps with a large step from e.g. greens to light-blue to blue without letting you stop in between) The following were the packages the install pulled in: compiz-0.8.8-8.1.x86_64 compiz-branding-openSUSE-0.8.8-8.1.x86_64 compiz-emerald-0.8.12.4-1.4.x86_64 compiz-emerald-lang-0.8.12.4-1.4.noarch compiz-emerald-theme-manager-0.8.12.4-1.4.x86_64 compiz-emerald-themes-0.8.12.1-1.1.noarch compiz-kde3-0.8.8-8.1.x86_64 compizconfig-settings-manager-0.8.12.4-1.1.noarch compizconfig-settings-manager-lang-0.8.12.4-1.1.noarch fusion-icon-0.1-4.1.noarch fusion-icon-qt3-0.1-4.1.noarch libcompizconfig-0.8.12.1-1.2.x86_64 python-compizconfig-0.8.12.1-1.3.x86_64 All in all, it works well. I'm pretty sure the artifacts are due to the new screen ratios (e.g. 1600x900 instead of 1440x900). I have an nVidia card in the laptop. I'll work with it as time permits and see if I can get rid of some of the rough edges. I wish we had the remaining plugins for KDE3 that made it what it was. Right now, it looks like the additional plugs are only available in OSS for, I suspect KDE4. You cannot install the oss packages without conflicting with the base compiz page from the KDE3 repo, e.g. compiz-plugins-main-lang-0.8.12.2-1.18.noarch.rpm compiz-plugins-extra-0.8.12.1-1.25.x86_64.rpm compiz-plugins-experimental-0.8.12-1.22.x86_64.rpm Is there any way that those additional plugins could be included for KDE3? -- David C.
