Anyone know if this went away in 15.0 or 15.1? I don't hook my test boxes up to
speakers, much less leave them running and active long enough to tell if it still
happens.
I need to decide whether to move to TDE when I upgrade my 24/7 to 15.1 from 42.3.
I'd rather not move, but this could be the deciding factor.

This is a fresh offline upgrade to 20190623 from 20161221 that seemed to
go without significant trouble. I did file two bugs, but only about YaST2
malfunction. Gwenview doesn't run because it requires libexiv2-26 while
-27 is installed.
I can boot to KDM3, login and work normally, but on logging out, screen blinks
a bunch of times, then stays black with blinking cursor at upper left, and
sometimes no response from keyboard. On random boots, KDM never appears, but
there is the blinking cursor on the all black vtty7. Remote login allows data
collection if and when the keyboard is locked:

systemctl restart xdm fails to return. Only escape is Ctrl-C and reboot.
No trouble is apparent in Xorg.0.log.
Selecting IceWM session right after fresh boot returns KDM on exit normally.
Boot to multi-user -> startx works normally.

After more rebooting, KDM is randomly times out on boot, but usually starts from
systemctl restart xdm, so it looks like some kind of wierd timing problem. :(

Hello All,
I recently noticed a systematic bug on my openSUSE_Leap_42.3, that seems
to me easy to fix for the specialists. I mounted a partition and opened
a 'pdf' file belonging to this partition in a Konqueror window, and then I
recorded the KDE3 session. When I reopen the session while the previously
mentioned partion is not mounted, Konqueror systematically crashes.
I am writing this email for all purposes. But I do not wish an answer.
Thank you for your attention.

Nothing against KDE3 in B.O.O. has been fixed in quite some time. Is there any
reason to thing anything David Rankin cannot fix himself will ever get fixed?
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1047852 is seriously annoying. I've
endured it too long, and it's not the only open KDE3 bug.
https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1044864 is no fun either. If 1047852
doesn't get fixed in coming weeks, when 42.3 support ends I'll have to goto TDE,
unless someone can convince me there's some other reason to stick with KDE3 in
15.1. That it comes from openSUSE's own BS isn't enough any more.
DR mentioned today that openSUSE has the best maintained KDE3. Does any other
distro even offer it?

All,
I have created an icons package that restores the .png icons for the
yast2-control-center-qt3 (I have also patched the control center to create the
symlink to the icons -- but buildservice has issues finding the KDE3/leap_15.1
repo for the qt3-devel dependency -- so you have to create the symlink for now)
To restore most (I haven't found the online-update icon yet), you can grab
the package
yast2-control-center-qt3-icons
from
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/drankinatty/openSUSE_Leap_1…
Then *create the symlink* to the hicolor icon theme, e.g.
# ln -sf /usr/share/icons/hicolor /usr/share/YaST2/theme/current/icons
That's it, start yast2-control-center and the icons re-appear. (now we can
work on finding where the rest went)
The bottom line to this problem is 15.1 dropped the yast2-branding-openSUSE
package (which provided .png icons) and now provides the yast2-theme package
that uses .svg icons. Qt3 cannot use .svg natively to create a QPixmap. So to
use the .svg icons, a .svg input routine that renders to QImage will have to
be written and then the resulting QImage can be converted to QPixmap for
display as icons.
(In the meantime -- I just added the .png icons back)

Felix,
All, I filed a bug report regarding the missing icons in yast2-qt3 and
missing [RPM Groups] tab in sw_single along with a proposed solution and
description of the problem:

To all those who say new KDE3/TDE content is dead...
I says "Bah-Humbug!"
Here is a matched set of kdm / ksplash widescreen themes. The kspash theme
requires the moodin ksplash engine which is available by default.
KDEglass widescreen kdm theme
https://www.deviantart.com/drankinatty/art/Kdeglass-Kdm-1-0-799928564
KDEglass widescreen ksplash (moodin engine)
https://www.deviantart.com/drankinatty/art/Kdeglass-Ksplash-Moodin-engine-7…
KDEglass wallpaper (1600x900)
https://www.deviantart.com/drankinatty/art/Kde-glass-1600-799931409
When you download, they are damn .zip files because deviantart will not allow
you to save as .tar.gz or .tar.bz2 (sheeze you think by now they would have
grown up)
So, download to a folder, switch to the folder and:
unzip kdeglass_moodin.zip
tar -cjf kdeglass_moodin.tar.bz2 kdeglass_moodin
and
unzip kdeglass_kdm-1.0.zip
tar -cjf kdeglass_kdm-1.0.tar.bz2 kdeglass_kdm
Then both can be added through kde control center, Appearance->ksplash "Add"
and the same for kdmtheme.
You can also install kdm theme manually. Enjoy. Let me know if something
doesn't work, and I'll tweak it. They are working fine here.
