[opensuse-kde3] openSUSE 12.1 with KDE3 and KDE4 applications

Hi! I am about to install openSUSE 12.1 on a laptop. I want to use it mainly (or entirely) with the KDE3 desktop but I still want to be able to run KDE4 applications under KDE3. In the past, I have done this with openSUSE 11.3 and 11.4. During installation of 11.3 and 11.4, I selected KDE4 as the default desktop. Then I added the KDE:KDE3 repository and installed all the packages to properly run KDE3 following more or less the recommendations given here: HOW-TO: KDE 3.5 on 11.4 This has worked perfectly and I was even able to use the oxygen theme in KDE3. For example, okular and vlc came with the nice oxygen theme even when running under KDE3. My question is: Is this procedure going to work also with openSUSE 12.1 or is there anything in particular I have to pay attention to? Thanks! [opensuse-kde3] Ideas for new NetworkManager frontend

Hello KDE3 users, I started the development for new NetworkManager frontend, but i'm not sure how to make it to be powerful and user-friendly at same time. Basically, it will have 3 components: 1) a secret agent running as KDE service 2) a connection manager, integrated in KControl 3) a kicker applet Any ideas will be apreciated (screenshots or .ui files created with Qt3 designer are preffered). Thanks. PS I attached a screenshot with current done work (the list of connections for ethernet and wireless). PPS Do not confuse "connection" with "access point" or "ethernet device". A physical device can have more than one connection (for example "eth0 work" and "eth0 home"). -- Serghei

I have kde3 installed in suse 11.1, 11.4,12.1, 12.2, 12.3 It seems that in anything in the 12.x range kde3- kmail (1.9xxx) fails because it keeps on downloading allready downloaded email from isp provider pop servers. That does not happen with 11.4 and lower versions. [opensuse-kde3] kpowersave in openSUSE 12.2

Hi! I have always used kpowersave in KDE3 to check the battery status of my laptop. However, in openSUSE 12.2 it is not working. I have also installed the haldaemon (hal-0.5.14) from the KDE3 repository and started it through yast. However, kpowersave is still not able to read the battery status or provide any other service. [opensuse-kde3] minimal 12.2 installation as default WM/DM

Is there anything like a minimalist pattern for installing KDE3 as the default WM? Presumably the 1-click on http://en.opensuse.org/KDE3 is not minimalist. zypper se attern | grep kde produces nothing with a 3 in it. I did a minimal X install and set solver.onlyRequires=yes in zypp.conf, then installed as little of KDE3, including kdebase3-kdm, as I could figure out to get them to start. I have yast2-control-center-qt3 installed, but opening YaST2 from the starter starts ncurses YaST. If I try to install yast2-qt, zypper wants to install a bunch of qt4 stuff. [opensuse-kde3] How to make "My Computer" program function?

I'm running Opensuse 12.2 with KDE3. My "My Computer" program has ceased functioning, and I don't understand how to re-activate it. [opensuse-kde3] What was happened with 11.4 OpenSUSE KDE3 repo?

Hello! I was unpleasantly surprised when I today didn't find the KDE3 repo for 11.4 on the offical OpenSUSE server. I understood that it was deleted to make more space for 12.3 stuff. But 11.4 is not died, it is supported by Evergreen project (unlike, e.g. 11.1 which KDE3 repo remained on this server safe. Where I could find a valid long-living mirror for KDE3 repo now?N��r��y隊Z)z{.��{��˛��m�)z{.��+�:�{Zr�az�'z��j)h��Ǥu�� ޮ�^�ˬz��

[opensuse-kde3] 12.2 & kde3 wireless issues with network manager

Hi guys I just recently picked up a Thinkpad T60p & I installed 12.2 & KDE3 on it. Everything seems to work except networkmanager. I can get Networkmanager to work with my wired gigabit but not with the internal Intel 3945 nor an ath5k cardbus card. I can connect by disabling Networkmanager & using ifup/down. I enabled HAL(which allowed the wired to work) but when I try to connect to a wireless it does nothing. I can SEE all the access points & allows me to set them up but it shows no attempt at connecting. When I plug the wired cable in, the spinning gear shows....... Any ideas? [opensuse-kde3] qnix qx2700led display modelines

somewhat off topic, but: my son just gave mom a qnix qx2700led display. the system is an intel 965-something mobo, q6600 cpu, 8gb ram, nvidia gt240 video card. i have suse 11.1, 11.4, 12.1, 12.2 installed, all running under kde3. but the qx2700led is a problem. with the nouveau driver, most syastems default to a 1600x1200 display instead of the true 2560x1440 res. does anybody have a good modeline for this little beast? the ones generated by cvt &&gft don't seem to work. the 12.1 -kde3 live cd seems to have it right with the default nouveau driver, but i can't find where the config is, nothing in /etc/X11/, no xorg.conf, the xconfig.d.install is only a listing of default drivers like fb, vesa, vmware, vga etc, nothing else, where is the config? the real problem is that "the boss:)" needs to run google-earth on her computer, so i need to make either google-earth work with nouveau, or make the nvidia drivers work with the display. the xrandr way has produced nothing so far, only error messages, so please suggest something:) thanks in advance, d. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner(a)opensuse.org
