Hi!
I am about to install openSUSE 12.1 on a laptop. I want to use it mainly
(or entirely) with the KDE3 desktop but I still want to be able to run
KDE4 applications under KDE3. In the past, I have done this with openSUSE
11.3 and 11.4. During installation of 11.3 and 11.4, I selected KDE4 as
the default desktop. Then I added the KDE:KDE3 repository and installed
all the packages to properly run KDE3 following more or less the
recommendations given here:
HOW-TO: KDE 3.5 on 11.4
This has worked perfectly and I was even able to use the oxygen theme in
KDE3. For example, okular and vlc came with the nice oxygen theme even
when running under KDE3.
My question is: Is this procedure going to work also with openSUSE 12.1 or
is there anything in particular I have to pay attention to?
Thanks!
Gianluca

sooo, it has been a while since I asked this question:
is it possible to use kde3 kmail in suse12.xx, without kmail constantly losing
track of previously downloaded mail from the server? this has been my
experience with *every* installation I have tried to date ; this has forced
me to other mail readers, but i still like the old kmail...
thanks,
d.

Serghei, do you have these two things built well under GCC 4.8?

Hello all,
A long time ago, I tryed to use Yast backup, and gaveup (Oss 10.3 ?).
Installation of additionnal packages looks giving unstability that I can not
repeare my self an other way than reinstalling (! meaning one day lost). So,
I decided to use Yast backup before any new package installation. I created 1
profile where all the files are but /home. I got a 2.1 Go archive that looks
correct in size, but that konqueror can not open!
Today I added an other profile with only /home inside. But the backup
was done very fast! I check the file size: 90 Ko! My /home directory is about
20 Go.
Can some one tell about his experience, explain or tell me where I can
find user's documentation for this software, please?
Cheers,
Patrick

one of the proposals i considered as a solution to my kmail problem was gmail.
so i opened up a gmail account, fed all of my existing accounts to it and it
worked. But I hate the interface, the layout, the gui, i hate everything
except the functionality! so i decided to keep gmail, BUT, i tried my tired
old kde3 kmail as a front end to it. it only required me to delete my old
accounts, then i added my google account, played with the firewall to allow
ports 995,465 and 587 thru, and VOILA, my kde3-kmail works just fine again,
in suse 12.3!!!! It seems that gmail is a little kinder to mail clients than
roadrunner, whatever weakness the uidl handshake had with roadrunner is no
more, so all is well again in kde3 land:)

I just did a minimal X installation of 13.1M3, then used zypper to add KDE3 &
KDM3. In KDM, mouse and keyboard work. Once logged in, both do not. What
could be getting disconnected logging in?
