Hello List,
how can I get back the ability writing accents on my KDE3-desktop?
My System is openSUSE 13.1 with KDE3 (3.5.10 release 262) from
inofficial Suse-repos. I'm using the keyboard layout with dead keys.
Under KDE4 all applications can work with accents. Under KDE3 there
is no application writing accents.
Writing accents is active (kcontrol).
Any hints (or is this behaviour a bug)?.
Thanks,
Helga

Hi!
I am about to install openSUSE 12.1 on a laptop. I want to use it mainly
(or entirely) with the KDE3 desktop but I still want to be able to run
KDE4 applications under KDE3. In the past, I have done this with openSUSE
11.3 and 11.4. During installation of 11.3 and 11.4, I selected KDE4 as
the default desktop. Then I added the KDE:KDE3 repository and installed
all the packages to properly run KDE3 following more or less the
recommendations given here:
HOW-TO: KDE 3.5 on 11.4
This has worked perfectly and I was even able to use the oxygen theme in
KDE3. For example, okular and vlc came with the nice oxygen theme even
when running under KDE3.
My question is: Is this procedure going to work also with openSUSE 12.1 or
is there anything in particular I have to pay attention to?
Thanks!
Gianluca

Hi All,
This mail is for the packager of KDE3. I use kdirstat with a lot of fun! I
mentioned that it does not open directories containing metacharacters / utf8
characters in it names, like "Répertoire" or "†_RIP". The version of it is :
KDirStat 2.4.4 (utilise KDE 3.5.10 "release 243" openSUSE)
and I use Oss 12.2 with kernel 3.18.0-2.38-desktop (x86_64)
Hoping being helping,
Sincerly,
Patrick

Hi all,
I tryed to pass the "same" system from "reiserfs" to "ext3". I have two
partitions of the same size, the first one "src" being the current system
(oss 12.2 with kernel 3.18.0-2.38-desktop) with which I formated the "dst"
partition, using yast. Then, rebooting the computer with a rescue system from
a CD, I copied all the files from "src" to "dst" using rsync -a. I modified
the file "dst"/etc/fstab to change the ex and new root partitions. Every
thing looks good to you, until now ?
The problem is that something in the boot process of the system on "dst"
is still waiting for a reiserfs file system. I can not find what. Grub seems
to load the right system and the root partition is the good one (well, I have
no control...), but nothing more, While booting, the system hang with
something related to fschk. I tryed to change fstab replacing the last
arguments (1 2) by 0 0, but without positive effect. Th kernel prompts a "$",
but if I try to enter a text it redisplays the same massage.
Could someone help showing me in which direction to look for, please ?
I thank you for the attention you paid to this e-mail.

Hello All,
I have a little problem that is: once my system is started and oss12.2/kde3 is
running, the services :
alsasound
cups
nscd
random
(reached by "yast" -> "system" -> "system services (runlevel)" this services
are marked as activated but displayed with an asterisc, and not running.
When I restart each of them by hand (clicking on the "activate" button), the
resulting dialog is "OK". I can print once cups is "restarted".
I can't repare, but I would like to restart it with a script. I got nice
information typing :
← systemctl --full list-units
as root, and got :
→ systemd-random-seed-load.path loaded active waiting Random Seed
→ nscd.service loaded active running Name Service Cache
Daemon
→ cups.service loaded active running CUPS Printing Serv
So :
← systemctl start cups.service
← systemctl start nscd.service
as root should work. But does someone knows how to do for "alsasound"
and "random" ? I more generaly wonder if the method is good.
After a systemctl --full list-units command, two of the lines displayed are :
→ NetworkManager.service loaded failed failed Network Manager
→ cups.socket loaded failed failed CUPS Printing Service Sockets
Typing :
← systemctl status NetworkManager.service :
→ NetworkManager.service - Network Manager
→ Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager.service;
enabled)
→ Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Fri, 24 Apr 2015 ...; 29s ago
→ Process: 8726 ExecStartPre=/usr/bin/test x${NETWORKMANAGER} = xyes
(code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
→ CGroup: name=systemd:/system/NetworkManager.service
I already sow that error, during the boot "Network Manager [failed]". and :
← systemctl status cups.socket :
→ cups.socket - CUPS Printing Service Sockets
→ Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/cups.socket; enabled)
→ Active: failed (Result: resources)
→ CGroup: name=systemd:/system/cups.socket
Could someone tell me how to solve this/these problem/s ?
Thank you for the attention you paid to that mail.
