[opensuse-factory] Xgl: a much better way to start compiz on KDE

http://en.opensuse.org/Using_Xgl_on_SUSE_Linux In the above page, the user is advised to create a compiz.desktop file in KDE Autostart. This is not optimal, because KDE's window manager kwin is started first, then replaced by compiz. On my machines this also created problems with other programs that are autostarted (have icons in KDE systray). It also has the disadvantage that a compiz.desktop needs to be created in each user's home. I propose a much better way: 1. create /usr/local/bin/compiz.sh with this content: /usr/bin/compiz gconf & /usr/bin/gnome-window-decorator & 2. make it executable: chmod a+x /usr/local/bin/compiz.sh 3. create /etc/profile.d/kdewm.sh with this content export KDEWM=/usr/local/bin/compiz.sh No need to make it executable. This will start compiz directly, not kwin. It's effective for all users of the computer. [opensuse-factory] yast2 errors out with libpy2Pkg.so.2: undefined symbol?

Hello all Can anyone please help me out here. I did a fresh install over the week end. Then I used apt and smart to upgrade to the lastest packages. Now I can't run yast(2) anymore. Below is the error I get when I run yast2 and try and install mysql. # yast2 Command: /sbin/yast2 sw_single & /usr/lib/YaST2/bin/y2base: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/YaST2/plugin/libpy2Pkg.so.2: undefined symbol: _ZN4zypp13SourceManager7restoreENS_10filesystem8PathnameEb [0] y2pm > whatprovides libpy2Pkg.so.2 yast2-pkg-bindings-2.13.82-1.2 provides libpy2Pkg.so.2 Can anyone offer any possible solutions other than re installing ? [opensuse-factory] y2pmsh refresh hangs (is this a bug?)

Sunny day everybody, Because rug/zen does still not work 100% (transaction allready in progress?) I use y2pmsh for packagemanagement (fast and stable). I have the problem that when a source is refreshed, y2pmsh does not continue anymore. Because a lot of people use y2pmsh it seems to me that it would be bugreported and fixed allready, but not it also happens on my new installation. Is this a bug or did I do something stupid (or both ;-) ? Goodday everybody, who are we gonna blame for the fact that Opera is gonna complain about malformed url when you are browsing in a Build-service generated repository? ( ftp://ftp.skynet.be/pub/software.opensuse.org/ ) As soon as you click in the directory KDE: it is gonna complain. Solutions are using another browser of typing it yourself. Who are we gonna blame for this? The Buildservice-team or Opera? I know Factory is not really available right now, but in the way of translating this page I find: http://fr.opensuse.org/Factory_Distribution#Where_can_I_find_it_.3F with difference between YaST and YUM repositories. is this distinction still usefull? The page http://en.opensuse.org/Factory asserts that its possible to use factory to test only one package. For me this seems extremely dangerous to do so on a stable main intallation, because I fear a dependecy chain could install from factory a lot of very new packages, breaking the stability of the hole machine. I'm right? in my tray, that little round thingee turned orange. in putting my cursor on it is said i had 18 updates to download. i started it and found there was 18 updates, then it tells me it was resolving dependencies and then got a screen that says mishandled files or something like the, clicked ok and the screen disappeared and the round orange thingee in my tray disappeared. is this normal? running 10.1. -- Edward Dunagin-Dunigan-Dunnigan 4646 Glenwood Drive Bozeman, MT 59718 mobile 406-570-0992

Hi, this is just a little bit of feedback or a notification about something you might already know, but maybe it's not clear enough: The new way YOU behaves is confusing and causes many, many false bug reports in user forums. YOU used to display to-be-installed patches only in the past. Now it displays all patches, even the already installed ones and the ones which don't apply at all: - To-be-installed patches have a black sign in the checkbox, already installed ones have a dark blue sign. Many users cannot distinguish them and report in user forums: "YaST crashed" if YOU exits without doing anything because all patches are already installed. - Patches which don't apply to a system, e.g. because the base packages are not installed at all, are visible in the patches selection. Many users do not understand this and report in user forums: "YaST does not select critical security patches for me". Then they select the patches, which results in MySQL, Postgresql etc. being installed on desktop systems. - Sometimes both things are even combined: A user selects all patches, even those that don't apply to his system at all, installs them, goes back to YOU, notices the dark blue signs, concludes that the patches are not installed and then repeats the procedure again, again and again - but YOU doesn't do anything because the patches are already installed. The resulting problem report is: "YaST does not install patches and crashes all the time". This is not a request to change things, I just want to make sure that you know what's going on out there. Together with the common impression that "package management doesn't work in 10.1", the result is that people make very fast conclusions and consider things as "not working" or "crashed" even if they are working just fine. I'm rewrtiting http://en.opensuse.org/Factory that was evidently very outdated. For that purpose, I need an info. Factory is a frequently changing repo. what is approximately the frequency of it's updates, in term of _minimum_ time between two updates. is it possible to have two updates in the same hour? the same day? (the same week, certainly :-). [opensuse-factory] New package manager bug?

I've installed the new official package manager updates, and subsequently wanted to play around with it a little to check up on it. It seems a lot nicer. And also the Danish localization is greatly improved. I was considering looking into joining the YaST-translation-team - but maybe now there's no need to :) I added some repos to YaST and everything worked fine with kde, kde-backports, guru. But with Packman I got the "synchronization with zmd failed" error. I then tried to add Packman to rug and got the following error. super64:/home/cb400f # rug sa --type=zypp http://ftp.skynet.be/pub/packman/suse/10.1 Packman Adding zypp service... 0% ERROR: Could not add 'http://ftp.skynet.be/pub/packman/suse/10.1': Failed to parse XML metadata: Unsigned file '/repodata/repomd.xml (http://ftp.skynet.be/pub/packman/suse/10.1)' Could this be a new bug having to do with the unsigned repo fixes?
