[opensuse-factory] Question re Tumbleweed and Virtualbox 6.0.4 (from Oracle)
by Rodney Baker 08 Mar '19
by Rodney Baker 08 Mar '19
08 Mar '19
Hi all,
Do the recent Tumbleweed snapshots have the relevant fix to allow Virtualbox
6.0.4 to run without manual intervention when installed from the Oracle
package (rather than from the TW repo), or do I need to install it first from
the TW repo to get the fixes?
The reason I ask is because I use dkms to manage the module installation if
switching kernels, but I seem to remember that that doesn't work if installed
from the openSUSE/TW repo packages because they use pre-built kernel modules.
It also has a dependency on a specific kernel version, but I'm running 5.0.0
from the kernel-head TW repo.
Regards,
Rodney.

- Delete patches.kabi/kabi-protect-struct-ata_host.patch.
The fix in 'patches.fixes/libata-add-refcounting-to-ata_host.patch.'
introduced a kref in the middle of 'struct ata_host' which the KABI patch
'patches.kabi/kabi-protect-struct-ata_host.patch' then moved to the end of
the structure in order to preserve the KABI for out of tree modules. But
this move to the end of the structure shadowed the dynamically allocated
'ports' array at the end of 'struct ata_host' and lead to kernel crashes
(bsc#1125109).

[opensuse-factory] Does openQA test update or replacement installation of existing EFI system?
by Andrei Borzenkov 08 Mar '19
by Andrei Borzenkov 08 Mar '19
08 Mar '19
Related to https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1127544
While openQA tests for EFI installation apparently passed, there are
multiple evidences that installation in real world fails with efibootmgr
error. I suspect this happens when installer attempts remove existing
NVRAM boot entries and it probably does not do it in new clean
installation. So far I could not find where this exact efibootmgr
invocation comes from in YaST.

The python-pygit2 package in TW is broken in multiple ways -
it depends on the no-longer-existent libgit2-27, and on an obsolete
version of python-cffi. I believe the latter problem is only a
consequence of failing builds because of the missing libgit2-devel
0.27.0. AFAICS, upstream pygit2 has not announced support for libgit2
0.28.0.
Anyway - is there a solution on the horizon, or a known workaround
other than locking python-pygit2 for the time being?

[opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed - Review of the week 2019/08
by Dominique Leuenberger / DimStar 07 Mar '19
by Dominique Leuenberger / DimStar 07 Mar '19
07 Mar '19
Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers,
Week 8 is what we like to see in term of the number of snapshots: We
managed to get out 4 snapshots (0214, 0215, 0217 and 0219), containing
updates like:
* MozillaFirefox 65.0
* Flatpak 1.2.0
* KDE Applications 18.12.2
* KDE Frameworks 5.55.0
* KDE Plasma 5.15.0
* Linux Kernel 4.20.7
* PackageKit should now transparently switch from ‘up’ to ‘dup’ on
Tumbleweed
* suse-module-tools: implemented fs blacklisting logic
The stagings are currently busy forging/testing these changes:
* openSSL 1.1.1: nodejs fails to build
* binutils 2.32
* Removal of Ruby 2.5 from the distribution
* PostgreSQL 11 made it back on the list
* Linux kernel 4.20.10 and beyond
Cheer,
Dominique

==== systemd-rpm-macros ====
Version update (3 -> 4)
- Fix %_restart_on_update_force: drop one extra trailing '}'
Thanks Werner for spotting.
- Simplify %_restart_on_update and %_stop_on_removal
There's no need to spawn sub shells when these macros are used.
- Macros arguments are mandatory
Especially in %_restart_on_update_never and %_stop_on_removal_never,
let's assume that they always receive unit names as arguments. This
allows to make them slightly simpler (less rpm macro black magic).
Callers will fail earlier if no arguments are passed anyway.
- Make sure %_restart_on_update_never and %_stop_on_removal_never
don't expand to the empty string
Otherwise sequences like the following would result in incorrect
shell syntax:
if [ ]; then
%_restart_on_update_never
fi
- Restore one daemon-reload command
It was erroneously removed during the drop of $YAST_IS_RUNNING.
- Bump version to 4
- Introduce %service_del_postun_without_restart
This is another step to make the SUSE rpm macros closer to their
upstream counterparts.
Introduce %service_del_postun_without_restart which should help in
getting rid of '-f' and '-n' switches of %service_del_postun.
- Drop $YAST_IS_RUNNING in favor of $SYSTEMD_OFFLINE (bsc#1117489)
libzypp now kindly defines SYSTEMD_OFFLINE when appropriate (see
bsc#1118758). Therefore we don't need to rely on YAST_IS_RUNNING
anymore. It's a tiny step to make the SUSE macros closer to their
upstream counterparts.

by Ancor Gonzalez Sosa 06 Mar '19

What is better than a blog post explaining the novelties in YaST?
Three blog posts!
Check our usual sprint report covering the following topics.
- Improvements in the Bcache support in the Partitioner
- Users home as Btrfs subvolumes
- Better visualization of Salt formulas
- Automatic selection of the needed driver packages
- Improvements in many other YaST areas
https://lizards.opensuse.org/2019/02/27/yast-sprint-71-72/
As special bonus, it includes links to other two more exhaustive blog
posts about the recently added Bcache support and about the revamped
Configuration Management module.
Cheers

Yesterday, I was not able to find Leap devel or test images (ISOs) or
other installation sources of devel versions. I started at

Where must I click?
