[opensuse-factory] acpid requires systemd?

Can this be true? If so, why? Zypper won't let me upgrade acpid without breakage unless systemd is installed too. Hello. There is a regression in YaST2 *Qt* "install/remove software" module. It doesn't show solver diagram. First, no dependencies on libqdialogsolver. Having logs recorded in a non-text binary format tends to make MS logs out-a-sight, out-a-mind, where as I often go and poke around in /var/log and look to see if I notice anything 'new'. If I can't look at the whole stream as a text (messages, warnings, etc), I don't get a field for what is right or wrong behavior and certainly wouldn't be able to pick out an anomaly if I had to query each item separately -- that global view is a good way to look for 'warts'... [opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed, future directions

Hi all. So Tumbleweed is, I think, almost 2 years old now. It seems to be working fairly well, or at least well enough for my daily use, and I haven't heard any complaints about it in a long time which means that either no one is using it, or it's working for others :) Anyway, with the advent of 12.3 soon, I have been thinking if Tumbleweed needed to change any to make things work better. My original set of complaints a year or so ago about OBS issues that keep us having a "proper" rolling distribution, still pretty much are the same: - the build-number issue - build speed - dependancy rebuild problems. Build speed of OBS has increased recently, I don't know if it's just my imagination, or if I have a higher priority for my repos now, or if new hardware really was added to the build system, but I'm happy things seem to be working better in that area at the moment. But the other two issues are still big ones, as the recent GNOME update in Tumbleweed proved quite well. So, I was thinking about maybe, when 12.3 changing Tumbleweed from being an "add-on" repo on top of the 12.3 repos, to being a "full" distro snapshot. That would resolve the build number problems we have had, but the dependancy rebuild issue would increase. The rebuild problem can be manually handled, much like FACTORY currently is, but odds are, I would lean toward the conservative side, having more rebuilds than are probably necessary just to ensure that systems work well. That means that libreoffice would be updated on a weekly basis for users, which might get annoying over time :) Any thoughts by anyone about this? Hi: Will be cool if rpmlint could warn when upstream packages attempt to use the -ansi gcc option because it inhibits usage of gcc builtin functions while optimizing (list here --> http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/Other-Builtins.html#Other-Builtins) most recently it caught my attention that it also disables the new "optimize-strlen" pass in gcc 4.7, in particular this: "for hosted compilations where stpcpy is available in the runtime and headers provide its prototype, e.g. void foo (char *a, const char *b, const char *c, const char *d) { strcpy (a, b); strcat (a, c); strcat (a, d); } can be optimized into: void foo (char *a, const char *b, const char *c, const char *d) { strcpy (stpcpy (stpcpy (a, b), c), d); } " when -ansi is used and (defined(_GNU_SOURCE) || (_XOPEN_SOURCE >= 700 || _POSIX_C_SOURCE >= 200809L)) is false, there is no stpcpy prototype and hence no optimization. [opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed: NV34 card scrmables colors after update

I have an old computer with an FX5200 AGP card. I've tried to update it this weekend to the latest Tumbleweed and the colors in X are all scrambled. Only the colors are wrong and it looks like the order of the bits is reversed or something: the tinier the expected color variation, the more drastic the actual result. I can't find any parameter that seems to influence that and searching the bugbase has also come up empty. Does somebody has an idea of what to try? Hi all, As many are surely aware, there are 'funny' issues in 12.3 when it comes to the network stack. On my machine, I experienced WiFi not being able to connect at all (Intel chip). => Updating the kernel-firmware package (Used Larry's pkg!) worked around this.. Then, NetworkManager and sysconfig seem to cause real pain. sysconfig was updated to 0.80.x (and a respective change added to NM). Now, whenever I use this configuration (tested on cable/LAN), then there is either no default route set, or /etc/resolv.conf is not being written. Having my system back in shape by reverting to sysconfig 0.76.8 and reverting NM to not make use of sysconfig 0.8 features got me running again. Don't get me wrong: I don't say we should kill the progress of sysconfig, but we should postpone this for 13.1, as in my opinion we are way to late in the release to figure out what all goes wrong and needs fixing (the issue is larger than it looks at first, just look at issues caused by this like https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=804052, where yast does not know how to perform the switch anymore between ifup and NM. As such, I very much vote for - Inclusion of kernel-firmware update, as prepared by Larry - Revert sysconfig to 0.78.8 - Revert the change in NetworkManager ( https://build.opensuse.org/package/rdiff?linkrev=base&package=NetworkManage… ) NOTE: Even doing this revert will leave machines which HAD these packages in a 'weird' state: NETWORKMANAGER=yes/no was removed from /etc/sysconfig/network/config with sysconfig 0.80 and rolling back to 0.78.8 adds =no to the system. So those machines might be in a very odd stage... yet, this is a 'rather' small subset of systems which we can possibly manage. Looking forward to some noise here! Hi everyone ! Serge just pointed out on the french IRC channel that links to the 64 bits ISOs may be broken no software.opensuse.org for the RC2. Going on the website, development version, whatever the ISO we choose, we seem to obtain only i586 or i686 files (according to the names at least). Is there any known problem with the build system ? Are the 64 bits images not generated yet ? Should I report a bug ? if I type in: while read fn;do ls -l "$fn"; done < <('ls' -1) into bash, I get a listing of files. But if I put that line in a file. It doesn't work. Why? Because of a suse-only patch to disable running such scripts under the user's shell, and only run them under /bin/sh. The above doesn't work under /bin/sh. I tried to roll back to the previous polkit-default-privs (which was the only change yesterday), but it did not fix it. Any other idas? (or I should use the repo mentioned in bnc#806348 ?) Dear all! I have updated two machines for testing with 12.3, and I must say, it's the nicest opensuse I've ever worked with. Congratulations! There are is one issue I'm having, as on my systems the default route has not been set up correctly via dhcp (see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=802761 ). A cosmetic thing is the startup/shutdown animation: In my opinion this 3d running circle does a) not fit to the rest of the new design, which is really good, b) is much two fast and c) doesn't run smoothly (here on my machines it frequently stops for parts of a second). I'd like to see something slower and simpler... Hi, with 3.8 out and available in Kernel:head and probably soon if not already in Tumbleweed. Suspend/wake seems to be broken for nvidia mobile cards when using the nouveau driver from kernel. up to now I have seen no solution or workaround... there are three models of cards confirmed as affected and few bugs already on freedesktop. [opensuse-factory] systemd offline updates - working for anyone?

I notice that in 12.3 "Install Updates & Restart" now frequently appears on the GNOME shell menu as per http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/SystemUpdates I tried this a few months ago but never got it to work in openSUSE; rather my computer just restarted normally. I figured it was being worked on. But in 12.3 RC1 I have the same issue; my computer just restarts without applying any updates. Is this working for anyone else? It works fine for me in Fedora.* * If by "fine" we are OK with it being confusingly redundant with the existing GNOME update app. I get the impression that this feature is only half-ready in GNOME 3.6, and we'd lose little by disabling it until 13.1. As a side note, neither zypper nor YaST delete the prepared update list (in /var/lib/PackageKit/) after an update, so the menu item remains even when there's nothing to install. Not sure what component(s) are at fault, but that really ought to happen. Michael Catanzaro

hi i've just install the new 12.3 RC1. There is some little bug in translation and kde but there is something very wrong,i can't configure network with yast and ifup.ifconfig show the network card is up but there is no ip adresse. Only Network Manger work ( habitually problematic !!!!!!) I use opensuse for server work so I just want network configuration works with yast and ifup. Hi, I am trying to set a serial console with 12.3 RC1 running in Virtualbox. I have added the following to grub console=tty0, console=ttyS0,115200n8 I can get the output in the host machine with the following socat UNIX-CONNECT:/tmp/vbox-ttyS0 PTY,link=/tmp/vbox-ttyS0 screen /tmp/vbox-ttyS0 However when I try to login from the host machine to the virtualbox machine running 12.3RC1 it spawns so fast that I can't type in the password, most of the time one character is bad enough to for the bad login message to pop up. libcdio 0.83 had a licensing problem. So we packaged a GIT snapshot. On October version 0.90 was released, but nobody noticed. The problem is that between 0.83 and 0.90 the API was changed. Now you find software that uses things like #if LIBCDIO_VERSION_NUM >= 90 To use the old or the new API. But our GIT snapshot defines LIBCDIO_VERSION_NUM as 84. I am not in any way its maintainer and I have no more knowledge about it than anybody else. So I can't really give any good argument to upgrade or not upgrade. What should we do? - Don't touch anything Let Packman and users who compile its own software feel the pain of having to patch all the software that checks LIBCDIO_VERSION_NUM - Patch our current GIT snapshot to report version 90 Even if it's a GIT snapshot in theory it has been well tested during the development of 12.3. I'm confused/have a dumb question: Suppose some package foobar is first created in a devel project. Life goes on, and then foobar gets submitted to factory and gets accepted. >From reading all the stuff on the wiki I would expect at this point that the devel foobar should remain as before, and the new factory foobar would just contain a _link to the devel foobar... quoting: "Development, however, does not happen directly in openSUSE:Factory but in so called devel projects." But it looks like what actually happens is that the link goes the opposite way: the devel foobar is copied wholesale into factory, and then the devel foobar gets a _link pointing to the factory foobar (example: utilities/csvprintf). That seems backwards. E.g. suppose someone then BURP's the devel foobar. Now the devel foobar is different from the factory foobar. When and how does the factory foobar get updated? And when this happens, does the devel foobar get copied on top of the old factory foobar, and the devel foobar thrown away and recreated with a new _link? Would someone ever want to modify sources directly in the factory foobar, instead of the devel foobar? It seems like we now have two independent places you can make changes to a package. Instead, why doesn't it work this way: - The factory foobar has a _link that points to the devel foobar (possibly with a fixed revision) - Sources are never changed in the factory foobar directly - To update factory foobar, you just update the revision in the _link file. Hello everybody, I think we need a webpage with objectives for next release and further implementations, like the python status page. One of those goals is to drop sysvinit and have a full and complete implmentation of systemd ( it's just an example ). But actually we have applications using sysvinit and applications using systemd on 12.3 and previous release. If we have a page with a list of applications who need a convertion, maintainers and OBS users can work of those without having to search what application use an init script. There is other examples, like implementation of dracut or Wicked, but users can't contribute to those implementations because there is no page status. Regards. Hi, is it an oversight that polkit doesn't have a Recommends or even Requires on libmozjs185-1_0? Since it's dlopen'ed this dependency isn't caught by the rpm dependency generator, is it actually any useful without being able to add rules? This just came up with the new rescue CD which has a smaller selection of packages with no other packages pulling it in and lightdm currently needs it as it installs JS rules as a workaround for bnc#798769. Just trying to test out the net install for RC1, but I want to create a local repo for my installation testing. Watching the installer run, I see that download.opensuse.org has a /distribution/12.3/ directory structure, but I'm not seeing that in rsync. Is there somewhere I can find this directory structure via rsync? Or am I going to need to use wget or aria2c to scrape the structure via http/ ftp? The output of 'osc results' shows the following: standard x86_64 blocked standard i586 blocked ARM armv7l blocked ARM x86_64 unresolvable The combination of "ARM x86_64" seems to be an oxymoron. I recently upgraded my dual boot Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop from openSUSE 12.2 to 12.3 RC1, using the Net Install procedure. The installation went perfectly, but on re-booting my grub2 menu only shows openSUSE and Advanced Options for openSUSE. The Windows 7 option has disappeared. The machine boots from the Root Partition. What do I need to do to reinstate it? Just a Question: AppArmor is now (on Gnome Desktop installations) per default disabled. Is this the intended behaviour? BUT it creates a problem. My system boots too fast for LVM.... And systemd isn't paying attention to the Sxxboot orders -- though I know it doesn't use those scripts it should at least mimic their order damnit! Those orders are there for a reason. I don't know -- I didn't set them up ... just found them like that. there doesn't seem to be an "lvm.service".... maybe that's part of the problem. But init would have failed to boot right then and there and stopped.. and good or bad -- lvm... actually this is a bit disturbing for anyone who like reliability -- the fsck for the local LVM volumes didn't fail and cause a stop in single user ==> LVM wasn't up yet. But the system came up just fine aside from the above, as all the system disks were mounted -- though some services failed (dependent on the lvm volumes that didn't quite make it...)... I was able to restart those by hand...
