[opensuse-factory] acpid requires systemd?

Can this be true? If so, why? Zypper won't let me upgrade acpid without breakage unless systemd is installed too. Hi: Will be cool if rpmlint could warn when upstream packages attempt to use the -ansi gcc option because it inhibits usage of gcc builtin functions while optimizing (list here --> http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/Other-Builtins.html#Other-Builtins) most recently it caught my attention that it also disables the new "optimize-strlen" pass in gcc 4.7, in particular this: "for hosted compilations where stpcpy is available in the runtime and headers provide its prototype, e.g. void foo (char *a, const char *b, const char *c, const char *d) { strcpy (a, b); strcat (a, c); strcat (a, d); } can be optimized into: void foo (char *a, const char *b, const char *c, const char *d) { strcpy (stpcpy (stpcpy (a, b), c), d); } " when -ansi is used and (defined(_GNU_SOURCE) || (_XOPEN_SOURCE >= 700 || _POSIX_C_SOURCE >= 200809L)) is false, there is no stpcpy prototype and hence no optimization. Hi, This is also related to the "Coolo needs help thread". During osc12 we had various discussions related to the topic of getting the distribution out the door and how we can get there within the release schedule that we had agreed to a while back. Part of this discussion are the two sessions I had the opportunity to lead, both are available on youtube opensusetv, if you are interested in this topic please go and watch these sessions, as well as Stephan's session, also on youtube. Unfortunately we did not have video equipment in the BoF session. The basic proposal is, and this received general agreement at osc12, that we will move toward changing the model as proposed in the session. This implies the following: - In the web UI one will no longer see inherited project maintainers on the package page, only the "true" package maintainers. (Inherited "maintainers" will be hidden in an expandable tree) - We will collect information about all packages in all devel projects that feed factory. We will generate a list of packages that have no maintainer, and a list of packages that need help, i.e. a package that has fewer than 5 maintainers. In addition we will list packages that have more than 5 maintainers and try to encourage maintainers from those packages (to get the number to 5) to take on packages that need help. - We want to clean up the devel project maintainer list to a ratio of 10/500 packages with a max of 25. ~ In many cases package maintainers in a given project do not care about all the other packages in the project, yet they are on the project maintainer list. ~ Also many people have their Hermes notifications disabled as they get too many messages about packages they do not care, hopefully with the changes more people will re-enable their Hermes notifications (more on this below) - We would like to see a notification on the package page if the package fails to build in factory - Would like to see package build status information on the factory status page about the status of the package in it's devel project. - Having the monitor page and the status page presented in the current form is confusing, we need to somehow merge the information. - It would be really nice if there were some kind of policy engine that could enforce the "no more than 5 per package" and the "no more than 25 project maintainers" policies. ~ now OBS is not just for openSUSE, thus this cannot be hard coded into the OBS code, thus this is potentially a lot of work. - We would like to have some kind of rating system on the devel projects - We will produce guidelines for package and product maintainers outlining what is expected. ~ These guidelines are not hard rules, but provide help to new people stepping in to define the role they are comfortable with. There appears to be a problem that the complete void of guidelines in this area leads to paralysis and people just do not know what to do if they want to help. We have documents how to package, these guidelines will be a hopefully short list of "what is expected". These are the rough outlines of the "plan". Obviously there is work to be done and the OBS team already has plenty to do. It is up to me to document in more detail the requirements/use case before a potential timeline can be developed. I will also start a wiki page attempting to define the various roles in the devel process and then opening that up for discussion once the basics are in place. Now to a couple of counter points. - Yes we will step on some people's toe, sorry. Meaning if you get removed as project maintainer from a devel project and you really really want to be a project maintainer you are probably not going to be happy. Please do not take it personal and get yourself added back to the project. Preferably you would find one of the project maintainers that remained, by chance and chance alone, and get that person to drop of the list. Chances are you will find someone willing to "make space for you" ~ Sorry, but this process has to be somewhat arbitrary due to the large number on the various devel projects. ~ Please be not offended, there is no vicious intent, just the intent to help the project grow and scale better. - Yes, the "rules" are changing, and if you maintain a package that is also in factory there will now be some expectations ~ In the end we all should have the same goal, create a quality distro in the time frame we promise, thus this should really not be a big deal Before I close this rather long e-mail (sorry) I have a kind of survey question. I would like to have the hermes settings of package maintainers reset "automatically" as we move through the house keeping project such that package maintainers get notification of build failures of their packages. I realize many people have these turned off today, but again, this is probably due to the number of notifications due to the project maintainer mails that most people do not care about. OK, before I write another couple of pages about this subject I'll stop here. Thanks for your attention, please no flaming, bitching and moaning. Great ideas and help are welcome. I want to change the background image that is used by Plymouth to a black background, showing the moving lights, to get rid of the awful over-sized chameleon icon, and the ugly green color. Hi, I'm pretty tired after returning to my home, so all I want to write are my impressions of the BoF about the release schedule. I gave a talk, Robert had two and all three had interesting discussions and then we had a 90 minutes BoF about the same topic: the factory development process. And all in all I would like to summarize this way: our schedule is not the problem, the process needs improvement and the distribution needs more people to take responsibility. The main part of the BoF was about if we need to change 12.3's schedule to implement changes or not. We agreed to implement what we can and stick to the schedule - even if that means that 12.3 won't be our strongest release. But reliable release schedule and reliable quality are our strongest priorities - features and number of packages come after that. That said, we were about 20 people in that BoF, so we can only give recommendations to the developer community as a whole. I will submit ghc (The Glorious Glasgow Haskell Compilation System) as a new package to Factory. GHC's main web page is: http://www.haskell.org/ghc/ Package ghc is developed at OBS in devel:languages:haskell Description: GHC is a state-of-the-art, open source, compiler and interactive environment for the functional language Haskell. It is part of Haskell Platform. Maintainability: The compiler has about 3-5 releases per year. Reasons to have it in Factory: Needed for Haskell Platform FATE #314446 (https://features.opensuse.org/314446) and pandoc FATE #312777 (https://features.opensuse.org/312777) Hints for package reviewers: We need to bootstrap the compiler. Therefore we need to bring a binary compiler in with a source file. That binary compiler will only be used to bootstrap a stage 0 compiler and will not be included in the resulting binary rpm. After bootstrap is done in Factory I will submit the package again with all bootstrap code removed. Lines that I will remove are marked with comments # remove after initial bootstrap and # end bootstrap. I created a merge request for desktop-data three weeks ago. It's just a minor patch that doesn't really fix anything but a warning from kbuildsycoca4. I'm not sure about how Gitorious works, maintainers are supposed to notice the "1" in the merge requests section or they receive an email notifying it? And since I'm on it. Since I updated my 11.3 system to KDE to 4.5 the "inline" part of the menu is not honored... Expected behavior? Hi, we're using %{?run_permissions:%{run_permissions}} in the post scriptlet of the samba-krb-printing package. While building for opensuse-factory we get this warning [ 1762s] WARNING: run_permissions is obsolete and will be removed january 2013 As we execute %{run_permissions} only if it is defined all looks good from our side. Therefore we consider to simply ignore the warning. But I fear we'll come to the point where the package sources will not get accepted for openSUSE Factory. Our goal is to use the same spec file also for older products like SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 and 11. Hi all, the latest filesystem package received some script magic, trying to rename /var/lock to /var/lock.migrated and finally adding some symlinking to /run/lock, which is the new location for the lock folder. Unfortunately, on my machine, this fails for some reason (currently unknown to me): Installing: filesystem-12.3-3.1 ...............................................................................................[error] Installation of filesystem-12.3-3.1 failed: (with --nodeps --force) Error: Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: error: unpacking of archive failed on file /var/lock: cpio: rename failed - Is a directory error: filesystem-12.3-3.1.x86_64: install failed error: filesystem-12.3-2.1.x86_64: erase skipped Trying to do this move manually results in: # mv /var/lock /var/lock.migrated mv: cannot move ‘/var/lock’ to ‘/var/lock.migrated’: Device or resource busy lsof +D /var/lock yields no results. apparmor has been ruled out (disabled) Any other good ideas on what can be tested? [opensuse-factory] Forgot to install grub,after removing grub2. How to install bootloader from minimal-bash?

Hi, I just tried to install grub, and removed grub2. zypper said grub legacy already installed, and removed grub2. After reboot, grub was not 'in command' forgot, did not think about to install it. What command is needed to boot the kernel, or rather, install a bootloader? 122 install disc only has cli rescue, but is not usable at that point. 122 lacks the repair option/boot installed os at install point. Any suggestions as to how to get a complete system booted from zero, without having to install everything new?? Written from another box of course... I am stuck with 640x480 display. Cannot believe we ever were bound to that spec... x86_64 intel_7 I have the oracle 4.1.22 package installed and successfully installed the guest package from external cd into 12.3 but cannot get larger resolution, 1920x1200 display. I can install 12.2 w/o a problem and have windoz/centos/chakra/mint2 all running w/o a problem. [opensuse-factory] Can't boot 12.3 GNOME live CD

I can't boot to the Gnome live CD for 12.3. I can't even do a media check, it stops at the line "sr 2:0:0:0 Attached scsi generic sg1 type 5." Booting to Gnome, I only get as far as the green wallpaper and wait 10-15 minutes, but it goes no further. It seems to quit, looking at my CPU monitor. I'm trying to run 12.3 in VirtualBox OSE with 1536MB RAM. The image passes the checksum. Are there any known issues with this? Hi, Yast has another default path that it uses, because in /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes/ Are all the themes that can not be selected, so which path is used, instead of the standard? That is probably also the reason why the System manager > Login screen does not work. I have inherited the package maintenance from Vincent Untz [1][2] and the development is now in X11:windowmanagers taking place. Since I am not it Prague any more. My POV about the "Release Schedule Discussion". Basically people mostly cares about his particular work, and not about the distribution as a whole. The work in the distribution as a whole is left to Coolo and few more people. Since what we need is more people to look at it, some problems/things to do: - Make https://build.opensuse.org/project/status?project=openSUSE%3AFactory the homepage of more people Too many clicks are required to reach the Factory status page. It's like if someone wanted to hide it. Not that I think it actually makes such a difference, but we should try to make it more visible. But the big problem is that it takes 30+ seconds to load it. Sometimes I actually don't look at it just because I don't want to wait. There is nothing that can be done about it? Caching? Make it fast and visible and more people will know about Factory status. The essential first step to get people to help. - Make people want to work on the problems Now I already loaded the Factory status page. I look at the list and I usually find two kind of entries: the ones that are so important that I am sure somebody else is already working on it (or is already fixed but lacks a rebuild), and the ones I don't care about. I mean, yast2-network has been failing to build for 11 days??? It can't actually be true, is it? And if it is for sure it's just because it's a complex problem, but somebody has been working on it for 10 days. I guess something similar is happening with libreoffice. But "qutim"? Yet another instant messenger? It's the first time I listen about it. I just can't find the motivation to look into it. For the first problem we need some easy and visible way to see if somebody else already took responsibility to fix a problem. Without this people just doesn't help because they don't think their help is needed. The Factory status page needs an extra column with the name of the person working on the problem. For the second problem we need a defined policy for dropping packages. If a package doesn't build for a long time and nobody fixes it... well, just drop it. It's clear nobody cares enough. I am sure it could be improved, but let's say: "If a package doesn't build for 30 days mark it for dropping. Announce it, with a list of all the current packages marked for dropping everywhere. Send the announcement to -factory/-packaging. Put it in news.opensuse.org. Have it in the forums so users also now. Perhaps let forum users vote for the packages they actually care. If after 60 days it still fails to build the package gets dropped, with also an announcement." - Inform maintainers when their update breaks other packages Sure, perhaps the kernel maintainer doesn't care if an out-of-tree module breaks. But some people *may* actually care if their update of a library breaks an application. Let's send an automatic email to them. If they don't care they will just ignore the email, if they care... great! I guess it's not so obvious to automatically know what package broke another one. Hello, since openSUSE 12.2 I see, that the system time is always wrong under the following conditions: - openSUSE 12.2 - BIOS clock stores localtime - systemd init - ntp is configured as server or as "update time once on boot" and uses external ntp time servers - NTPD_FORCE_SYNC_ON_STARTUP="yes" in /etc/sysconfig/ntp (default setting) - no network connection to ntp servers on boot After some debugging I found, that BIOS clock is always set to UTC (Europe/Berlin - 2 hours) on boot, when /etc/init.d/ntp start is executed (indirectly by systemd). On next boot system time initializes from the false UTC BIOS time. Of course, setting BIOS time to UTC fixes the issue, but this is not an ideal solution for dual boot PCs (especially with Windows XP). Having a stable internet connection is also an option. But what about mobile devices (e.g. notebooks with openSUSE and Windows XP)? As customary, I'd like to present a set of new packages I've been pushing forward. Vega Strike[3] is an open-ended 3D space simulator, in the genre of Elite and Privateer. Although releases are far apart, development is active and ongoing, and there is a decent user base, spanning Ubuntu, Fedora, Windows and some Mac users. The engine (vegastrike), with which at least 3 games are built, has been accepted into factory a while ago and has made it into 12.2. However, the legal review (and related cleanup) for the data bundle of its (rather massive) flagship game, "Vega Strike: Upon the Coldest Sea", has taken a lot longer than anticipated, and has just reached Factory. Optional music (SR 114869[0]), speech (SR 120493[1]) and extra texture packs (SR 120470[2]) are awaiting similar review, and though they could face similar setbacks I'm hopeful the hard part is over. I hope you are as eager to play it as I am to provide it. [opensuse-factory] repositories for 12.3/??factory

I have installed milestone0 for 12.3 in a vb and am somewhat confused in trying to determine which repos should be enabled and have been unable to remove that confusion in reading the wiki's on opensuse.org. Is there a wiki or web page describing a setup to test 12.3 or factory? For some testing I need to have gcc in openSUSE 12.3, however trying to install gcc I have a large dependency problem. I have just upgraded my laptop to openSUSE 12.2. I've got several issues. - I have got this bug https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=716652 even though it was marked as fixed since openSUSE 12.1. Hi all, I would like to request information which I believe that a few people here can help me with. I've currently made X11:MATE:Factory which now holds around half of the packages of MATE 1.5 (the missing ones are currently being ported to DBus/GSettings and should be available during the next 2 weeks). Everything currently is running smooth with 1.5 (not all features are currently available yet). There is also on that repo a pattern, mate-desktop-basic, which should install the minimum MATE components required and is being made having in mind performing a MATE install on a GNOME LiveCD and to use the GNOME3 components. Now my big question is: what do I need to do to get MATE Desktop supported by /etc/sysconfig/windowmanager ? NOTE: my patch to implement support for mate in portland/xdg-utils has been accepted upstream, and has landed already on 12.1 and 12.2! I have also opened a bug report to request X11:MATE:Factory to be flagged as development project for MATE in oS:Factory so I can start submitting packages for reviewers. [opensuse-factory] New fdupes and %fdupes behavior in Factory

Hi all, the fdupes package got a new switch -p/--permissions, where it won't mark files with different ownership and security bits as duplicates (bnc#784670). I've already took the time, upgrade it to the latest 1.5.0-PR2 and adopted all patches from Debian. There is one difference - we have a patch sorts the output according filename, but upstream sorts according mtime and I did not port our patch. But I don't thing it will cause any troubles. Add to the subject the tag "RFC: Guidelines change" * discuss the change * if the change gets accepted by packagers and reviewers, update the wiki pages. Acceptance means: No strong objections within 14 days of the postings. * if the change can be algorithmically enforced, a rpmlint check is proposed. * the packaging guidelines team will send a monthly email to opensuse-announce and opensuse-packaging mailing lists to announce changes to the policy (only if there are changes to be announced) * the packaging guidelines team will support the process and make a decision in case of conflicts. Hi, all, Before 12.2, when we were still using bootsplash package, there's a "feature" that we can have a very cute background in runlevel 3. This is no more in 12.2 with plymouth. Because the background is implemented by a set of kernel patch, bootsplash package and bootsplash-branding-openSUSE. (We have a ready kernel and a ready bootsplash-branding-openSUSE.) Since it's been something existed for almost 5 years. I do really miss it. So is it possible we find a way to get it back? [opensuse-factory] Removing syslog from the default patterns - wasn't this a completely pointless discussion?

Just in case no one else has noticed - there is absolutely no (0, zero) benefit to anyone (user/admin/developer/packager/whoever) in omitting syslog from the default pattern/install. Yet it was suggested and we have been discussing it for quite some time now. I submit it should never have been suggested and certainly not discussed without someone arguing _why_ it is of benefit to the end user and hence worthwhile doing. I think the suggestion was completely pointless and in the end only caused unnecessary consternation among those openSUSE users that have a use for syslog. It was developed internally for Banco do Brasil as an alternative to x3270 and commercial options at the time, and has Paul Mattes (original x3270 author) "blessing" and invaluable help. It should now have (at least) 100,000 users around the country. This includes Banco do Brasil's own employees, Caixa Econômica Federal (another large state-owned bank). Since it's been released to the public via the Federal Government Public Software Portal in 2009, it has gained traction and spread throughout other regional government offices and private businesses worldwide. [opensuse-factory] kernel modules before and after sleep/wake

Hi, I am using Linux abbaton.ucd.ie 3.6.1-1-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Oct 10 19:28:30 UTC 2012 (2a321c4) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux but what I report it happened on all 3.6 version of kernel and maybe 3.5 but I jumped directly from 3.4 I observed that my wireless card (broadcom with the wl) driver sees networks only in certain reproducible situations... for example one of them is like follows. I start the computer the driver seems loaded... the eth1 device is created but it cannot scan any network... I put the computer to sleep... I wake it up... and all the networks appear and I can connect and use the wireless as expected... I was trying to understand what are the differences and what can be the cause of this behaviour... I did a lsmod and sorted the modules loaded in the two situations and they seem to be very different... Wicd is an open source software utility to manage both wireless and wired networks for Linux. Wicd is split into two major components: the daemon, and the user interface. These two components communicate via D-Bus. I maintain wicd on network:utilities devel project. Wicd is a python software, it seems to be in conflict with networkmanager and others ( but who needs to have several network manager ?). It's a great alternative to networkmanager, it's light with basic functions. Wicd is already functionnal. What do you want to mean with "What are your plans going forward with wicd?" ? A replacement for laptop-mode-tools. "A tool that performs monitoring and adaptive configuration of the system according to selected profile. [...] Profiles contains various sysctl/sysfs settings and optionally a script that is run on profile activation/deactivation. This is called static tuning. We try to keep the database of tunings up-to-date with latest kernels. The profiles also contains settings for various tuned plugins that tune the system dynamically. Each plugin can connect to various sensors. Currently there are plugins for CPU, disk, ethernet and FSB. For example the ethernet plugin change the ethernet speed according to previous network load. System profiles are located in /usr/lib/tuned. You can create your own profiles that can also include and override settings from system profiles. Your custom profiles can be put into /etc/tuned and has higher priority in case of conflict. For details see man page of tuned.conf. You can also create your own profiles from powertop suggestions. For example if you want to create profile/my-profile/ that will implement all powertop suggestions that are relevant on your system run: powertop2tuned my-profile This command will create new profile in /etc/tuned/my-profile and will include settings from your previous profile. To be safe all tunings suggested by powertop are initially disabled. You can selectively enable them by going through /etc/tuned/my-profile/script.sh and uncommenting the appropriate lines. You can switch to this new profile by: tuned-adm profile my-profile" Laptop-mode-tools has some problems with systemd and will be at terms incompatible with opensuse. Tuned could be a great alternative to. I already work on this one and it works fine. Can I submit tuned on a devel repo like base:system, whose is developped laptop-mode-tools ? Best regards. [opensuse-factory] VGA screen problem after download of 28 new xf86- input and video drivers

After last week download of 28 new xf86- input and video drivers my VGA mode was changed into 1289x1024 from my favorite 1024x768. Found nowhere a way to change my screen setup so I changed the mode 31a into 317. With this mode I found that everything seemed to work except kmail. In the message list the message of choice did not show in one color but showed three strong color which made reading the text in that line practically unreadable. Same as in the 31a mode, both 16 bit) as I found out later. The read messages in the message list faded away an could only made readable by going over the messages. Changes to mode 316 (15 bit) brought me a normal colored message list except it did not change the behavior of fading messages after reading them. Made a screen snapshot of this problem. Started sampling information about modes and screen resolution on the opensuse list and have gathered following information: I am running openSUSE 12.3 Milestone 0 (i586) Kernel: 3.6.0-rc7-1-desktop KDE Development Platform: 4.9.2 "release 511") I have a 17" cathode monitor with following specs: Display Height 768 Max hor. freq. 61 Max vert. freq. 90 Min hor. freq. 31 Min vert. freq. 50 Resolution Height 768 Vert, freq. 76 Width 1024 lscpi tells me: VGA compatible controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 65x/M650 PCI/AGP VGA Display Adapter I have used and found the same problem with LXDE and Icewm as in KDE4 xrandr gives following info: Failed to get the size of gamma for output default Screen 0: minimum 1024 x 768, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1024 x 768 Default connected 1024x768+0+0 0mm x0mm 1024x768 76.0' My question, why was my screen mode changed after the new x86 drivers into a screen mode far out of the possibilities of the monitor and what is still missing in order to get a normal working kmail. The /etc/fstab entry is this: /dev/sdb1 /media/disk reiserfs acl,user_xattr 1 2 The problem is that a ordinary user cannot write to the disk , only root can. I am using opensuse 12.1 on this machine. Questions. -How can the disk be mounted so a ordinary user can write to the disk ? -What commands do I need to run to to do this, examples would be useful ? All, It is time for the next Google event, hurray :) , and once again we would like to participate as a mentor organization. Having successfully participated in the Google Summer of Code and also last year's Google Code-In we are once again aiming to participate in a Google event; Google Code-In 2012, see http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:GCI for details. Therefore we need tasks and mentors. This year the rules have changed a bit and this should put things on a different footing compared to last year. Google is not handing out money to the students, rather a trip to Google HQ in Mountain View, CA for an awards ceremony is provided for 2 students plus guardian for each of the participating projects. Only 10 open source projects will be selected. Therefore, it is time to get your good ideas and things that are on your list but that you are never going to get to onto the the task list. We are looking for tasks in the following 5 categories: 1.) Code: Tasks related to writing or refactoring code 2.) Documentation/Training: Tasks related to creating/editing documents and helping others learn more* 3.) Outreach/Research Tasks related to community management, outreach/marketing or studying problems and recommending solutions 4.) Quality Assurance: Tasks related to testing and ensuring code is of high quality 5.) User Interface: Tasks related to user experience research or user interface design and interaction *Note: Translation tasks are not allowed As you add tasks to the list please remember that the students targeted by this contest are 13-17 years of age, thus adding a task to fix a kernel bug to the list is probably not the best fit. We want to provide an environment where these students can learn, but also are challenged and stretched out of their comfort zone a little bit. [opensuse-factory] Splitting deb?

Hi. I saw that Marguerite has added another two Debian packages to the "deb" openSUSE package. As a user of and contributor to that package, may I suggest that we stop that (and instead do the opposite, split the package)? I don't know what the historic reasons were for collecting multiple independent source packages in one RPM. But by now this is a very big and complicated spec file which makes maintenance somewhat hard, especially when multiple people are working on it. It also makes it hard to use parts of the packaging for other purposes (e.g. Fedora already has a dpkg package, but no debhelper or devscripts package. The current deb package doesn't work for Fedora and adapting it would make the spec file even bigger [it needs overrides for the automatic perl dependencies and other changes]) If there is no opposition I would volunteer to do all the work of splitting the deb package in its components and submit them to Factory (Probably something that would be targeted for 12.3, not 12.2?). Opinions? Would it make sense to file a bug about this? Or a fate entry? [opensuse-factory] Status: Distribution

Hi, I promised to release Milestone0 this week, but it turned out that this week has a german holiday and both Ismail and me take off the remaining of the week, so we need to hurry a bit :) The status of the distribution is actually pretty good, but the new kernel triggered a problem with the installation media - they no longer can initialize graphics mode. This in itself is a small problem as you can easily work around it by installing with "no kms", but it lead to the fact that all openqa tests show the very same problem, so I can't say what else is missing. But assuming the best, the updated tests will show that it's all green and I will upload tomorrow. Or we will have to back to square 1 and release M0 the week after. Hallo all, Reading the discussion about dropping sysv init, it seems the number of people are opposing against it is big. I have an idea for people wiling to maintain and use it in the future. It is trivial to create a community project dedicated to that task. All you need is to have a devel project (Base:sysvinit), where you will maintain sysvinit and all needed init scripts. As our software stack is really powerfull, it can be done easily. This is the snippet of the spec file providing the init script for vsftpd. Name: vsftpd-sysv Description: Sysvinit script for vsftpd Supplements: packagageand(sysvinit:vsftpd) Requires: sysvinit Requires: vsftpd Source0: vsftpd.init %post %{inserv ... The biggest advantage is that there will be a group of people taking a care about sysvinit, which is better from what we have now. The disadvantage (or maybe an advantage) is that the amount of needed work will be probably huge, especially adapting on upcomming changes in Factory. I'm talking especially about Gnome, where systemd is (planned to be) integrated into core parts (gdm, gnome-session, ...) and the Supplements trick won't work here, so the $sysvinit project will be enforced to provide own packages in some cases. But in anycase, the future is in your hands ... BTW: I am not going to be a part of such project as I support systemd migration - I just wanted to raise my idea to you Regards Michal Vyskocil

Hello all, I have been having a problem in which the installer with default kernel freezes when "Searching for Linux Partitions" during the probing. This has been happening since 12.2 M1 - M3. To resolve this I add "acpi=off" to the boot options. This should not happen with the default kernel. Should I add this as a bug under "Installation" or "Kernel" in Bugzilla? -- Cheers!
