I created a merge request for desktop-data three weeks ago. It's just a minor patch that doesn't really fix anything but a warning from kbuildsycoca4. I'm not sure about how Gitorious works, maintainers are supposed to notice the "1" in the merge requests section or they receive an email notifying it? And since I'm on it. Since I updated my 11.3 system to KDE to 4.5 the "inline" part of the menu is not honored... Expected behavior? -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all - Since technically we're in feature freeze for 11.4, I thought I'd put this out for discussion. Factory is currently using 2.6.36 which was released 3 weeks ago. Upstream versions tend to take about 10-11 weeks, on average, to release. The scheduled release for the first openSUSE RC is Jan 20. The scheduled release for the first RC is Jan 20. The typical development time for a kernel release, on average, is about 10-11 weeks. That puts the release of 2.6.37 around Dec 29 to Jan 12. That sounds like kind of a tight window, but the reality is that the differences in the later kernel RCs tend to be small and fix bugs. The "real" development happens in -rc1, which was released about two weeks ago. Later -rcs serve to stabilize the development that went into -rc1. So, the the feature freeze aspect of it will be a one-shot, when I update to -rc1. (Actually, I hardly ever update to -rc1 and instead use - -rc2 which tends to be more stable). I've already done the merge work for 2.6.37-rc1 since the master kernel always tracks the latest upstream. Xen is the lone exception, as it usually is, but Jan Beulich has been great about getting that completed shortly after I do the update. This time might be a little more difficult because much of the Xen code has been merged into the mainline kernel so there's some sorting out to be done. As far as testing goes, we're still early enough that we won't lose a lot of effort. I'd update Factory to 2.6.37-rc2 as soon as it is released upstream, which should be this week. Our usual corps of dedicated testers can dig in quickly. In my experience, though, the number of testers drastically increases around the RC1 release. I wish it weren't so, but it is. So revving the kernel now isn't likely to toss out a lot of testing. The biggest "feature" I'm going for is not having to backport fixes from 2.6.37. The BKL removal patches and the VFS scalability patches are going to improve performance on multicore systems. The removal of I/O barriers should also be pretty noticeable but I haven't had time to verify that yet. I wonder whether our IPv6 settings are the right ones after reading the following article (sorry, German only): http://www.heise.de/newsticker/meldung/IPv6-Smartphones-gefaehrden-Privatsp… which references: http://www.heise.de/netze/hotline/IPv6-anonym-1100727.html We set use_tempaddr to 0 by default (disabling privacy extensions) and set it to 1 if enabled. The article advises to use 2. Background: By default (value 0) my IPv6 address will be derived from my hardware (macaddr) and therefore be the same independend how I connect to the internet. So, it's easy to track my computer... So, my proposal is to do the following two changes: * Use 2 instead of 1 in /etc/rc.d/boot.ipconfig for enabling the privacy extensions * Set IPV6_PRIVACY=yes in /etc/sysconfig/sysctl Any concerns with this change? Hello Listmates, I have installed KDE 4.6.0 openSUSE 11.4 RC2 Every time I select Qtcurve -->Configure--> Aqua OK and Apply. Then Qtcurve -->Configure--> Curve OK and Apply. This preset change causes the plasma desktop to crash every time including kwin, akonadi, nepomuk.... I had to press CTRL+ALT+DEL twice to exit the crash and log back in again. My graphics card is a GeForce 8600 GTS Nvidia driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-270.29.run used. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Select Configure Desktop --> Application Appearance 2. Hi all, Once upon a time there were a few YaST modules which overwrote manually edited configuration files. Instead of changing only certain configuration options YaST overwrote all entries of the specific configuration file. In this case values were lost which had been manually changed before running YaST. YaST doesn't accidentally overwrite configuration values anymore! If it does it's a bug. If you know any YaST module that still destroys manually changed configuration files. please report a bug (and cc me). We want to get rid of the myth that YaST accidentally overwrites files. All, I'm not on the opensuse-kde list, but I just saw the dolphin bug that causes it to crash when previewing a PPT file get marked resolved. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=249876 See the last few entries. I can ssh normally to 11.2 and 11.3 servers from konsole. Attempting fish or sftp gives this on server: error: PAM: Authentication failure for vahis from a88-112-9-172.elisa-laajakaista.fi When ssh keys are made, then connection works fine though. openSUSE 11.3 on one box and openSUSE 11.4 Milestone 4 on the other. I have a message that says the built modules not found. When I check e.g /lib/modules/2.7.37-rc3-git7-smp, most modules are zero bytes long. I have to "make modules_install" and use modprobe on each. Hello, can someone please trigger the rebuild of yast2-apparmor in Factory? It contains a perl module in an outdated directory (for the previous perl version), and a rebuild will put it into the correct directory. Hi, As I needed a directory to put some openSUSE-specific data for each user, I was looking at what directory to use. I was not aware of any such directory, so after quickly asking around, I decided to use this: if test "x$XDG_CONFIG_HOME" = "x"; then XDG_CONFIG_HOME="$HOME/.config" fi SUSE_DIR="$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/suse" So if anybody else needs a directory like that, please use the same one. Note that XDG_CONFIG_HOME should be created with "mkdir -p -m 0700". Doing "mkdir -p -m 0700 $SUSE_DIR" will not create XDG_CONFIG_HOME with the right permissions, as far as I can tell (don't know if it's a feature or a bug). I know several people who refuse to use openSUSE solely because they can't do this. Greg KH, Just a note about perl and the D:L:P repo (development:languages:perl). Since 11.4 is due out so soon and will fix this issue, you don't need to address this, but I thought I'd make you aware anyway since I assume similar situations will arise in the future. Hopefully this can be fixed via documentation on the wiki, and that is my real request. Anyway, I have a home project for which I just added the Tumbleweed repo. In my home project, I also have a number of perl modules with the specfile built via cpanspec. They use a specfile macro that is not in 11.3, but is in the D:L:P 11.3 repo. So I have OBS build against D:L:P 11.3 successfully. But they fail when I attempt to build against Tumbleweed due to the undefined specfile macro. The most obvious fix would be to get Tumbleweed to have that macro defined. (It is defined in 11.4, so I'm not really asking. I can wait 2 or 3 weeks.) A more flexible option, would be for me to additionally add the D:L:P 11.3 repo to my OBS Tumbleweed build environment. I don't think that can be done via the GUI. (ie. Via the GUI, I think every repo I add creates a new build environment.) Nor do I know if it is supported via manual config file editing. If so, having the wiki entry for Tumbleweed discuss how to add a second simultaneous repo like that would be beneficial. If anyone wants to look into this so they can document a fix, please feel free to just branch one of my failed perl module builds from. [opensuse-factory] openSUSE 11.4 RC1, Overheat after Making a Mobile Broadband

Hello developers, I hope this bug will be fixed in time. My computer[0] got overheat (85 C, 86 C, 87 C, .. and keep raising), until booted down itself, though it hanged in the middle of it and I had to press the button down by my self. I could not see what happened in a boot-down log when it hanged. It always happened when I made an Internet connection through Mobile Broadband[1], even I did not yet lunch Firefox, the performance went slower, and when I saw the 'powertop', it showed: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/OeSVet7GuQLovgyVFgXzfQ?feat=directlink The issue existed since I tried openSUSE 11.4 Milestone 5, I thought it was related to bnc#665439, I disnt know, so I did not watch it carefully, added my issue there, or fill new bug, until I find it still remains until RC1. The issue sometimes came even I did not make the mobile broadband connection, just plug it to the USB socket, then in (about) a or two minutes, the computer's temperature gets hotter and the performance goes slower. I don't have such issue when playing in openSUSE 11.3 nor 11.2. How should i provide useful information, so will become to the resolvable bug?
