[opensuse-factory] unable to access phpMyAdmin

A recent update has made it impossible for me to connect to phpMyAdmin. I was previously able to connect, user_name and http_auth with password blank. Factory x86_64 11.2 M8 phpMyAdmin-3.2.2-1.1.noarch php5-5.3.0-1.6.x86_64 apache logs provide: 65.185.140.214 - <user_name> [05/Oct/2009:14:08:14 -0400] "GET /phpMyAdmin/error.php?lang=en&dir=ltr&type=Error&error=%232002+-+The+server+is+not+responding+%28or+the+local+MySQL+server%27s+socket+is+not+correctly+configured%29 HTTP/1.1" 200 1164 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090909 SUSE/3.5.3-135.2 Firefox/3.5.3" I cannot tell which update has changed the conditions as I have not recently used the app. Finding my previous config failed, Ireplaced my old config.inc.php with the suggestion from the docs: <?php $i=0; $i++; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['user'] = 'root'; $cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = 'cbb74bc'; // use here your password $cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'config'; ?> changing the user name and auth_type (http) and blanking the password. failure: phpMyAdmin - Error Cannot start session without errors, please check errors given in your PHP and/or webserver log file and configure your PHP installation properly. performed 'rcmysql reload' before each trial. I read on Ubuntu and Phoronix Catalyst 9.10 beta drivers have surfaced on their development distro. I am looking for support to test HD 5870. Have these drivers been introduced into factory yet? [opensuse-factory] M7 and KDE4 and sound

Why is it that M7 and likely M8 have sound problems. KDE4 after a reboot plays the sound just fine (some times). However, if left alone (like you needed to go to work) the sound is not available. Example Amarok worked this AM and I closed it down - come back this evening and it will not play any sound. Hang it up and reload it again and it is now playing. Hi, >From my experience, last stable Flash Player plugin on latest Firefox 3.5.x (Moz build) is completely unusable. Since my HDD i going straight to hell, I have to stick to LiveCD and I find latest stable FP with 3.0.4 (SUSE build) best combination I've ever tried. [opensuse-factory] M8 and M7 Keyboard and Mouse Lockout

Hello, Once I updated to m7 (i burned a dvd iso) GDM locked out my keyboard and mouse which won't let me login. I know that my keyboard is recognized in the bios and grub, but once I get to the GDM login screen the keyboard and mouse are disabled, to the point that even hitting caps lock, or num lock won't light up their respective notification lights. I have tried booting in failsafe and then i updated to m8, again burning an iso because I was unable to "zypper update" and m condition has not changed. [opensuse-factory] Helping fix bugs for 11.2

Hey, Since we're deeply in bug-fixing mode for 11.2, I thought it'd be interesting to send some documentation on how to help. I sent some detailed notes to opensuse-gnome [1], but I'll put here what is relevant in general (and not just to GNOME). [1] http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-gnome/2009-10/msg00006.html (please don't turn this thread in some "I experience this bug and I think it should get fixed" thread) How to help =========== 1) Bug fixing Well, if you can fix bugs, then just do it :-) Nothing really important to say there. 2) Look if a fix exists elsewhere You can look if a fix for a bug already exists somewhere. There are various places where you can check: + newer upstream version of a package: if there's a new upstream version, maybe it already contains the fix. If it does, then please tell us! + git/svn/etc.: the fix might already be upstream, but not in a released version. In this case, you need to look at git/svn/etc. Most projects have a web interface that lets you do this easily (eg, http://git.gnome.org/ for GNOME) + patches in other distros: it often happens that another distro already found the issue and fixed it with a patch. There are links to websites where you can see patches from packages in other distros at http://live.gnome.org/VendorPatches. Often, I just check at Fedora, Mandriva and Ubuntu. + upstream bug: if nothing else worked, you can check the upstream bugzilla for a similar bug. There might be a patch attached there. 3) Test a potential fix For some bugs, we already have a potential fix (or we found one with the steps above), and we need someone to make sure it fixes the issue. This might imply rebuilding a package locally (to avoid waiting for the build service), but it's easy to do so with osc. If you need help for this, just join #opensuse-factory and people will guide you. (This step is of course quite important so you can definitely help) 4) Provide required information For some bugs, we need more information. We request this in the bug, and then we have to wait for somebody to provide the information. And unfortunately, sometimes we have to wait quite a bit :/ 5) Try to reproduce the bug with latest packages It happens that the bug is just fixed with a package update. So just running the latest Factory and trying to reproduce the issues can help identify fixed bugs. I can't run Factory on my computer ================================== Yep, this happens and this is understandable. But you can still run it in a virtual machine and work on most issues there (some issues require some specific hardware, so those ones are obviously not reproducable in the virtual machine). Here's how to do this: + install VirtualBox + download the latest LiveCD from http://download.opensuse.org/factory/iso/ + launch a virtual machine and boot from the livecd. + then, you can try to reproduce issues directly from there, or you can first install the livecd. + (for GNOME, we recommend some additional steps to help more, see the mail sent to opensuse-gnome) + if you installed and configured the repositories, make sure to update to the latest version of the packages with "zypper ref; zypper dup" And then you're all set! I can't stress enough that doing one of the above will help us a lot, so if you have some free time, please do it! Hello, I just had a problem I want to quote, only for information pourpose and in the case this could make an enhancement possible. for a reason yet unknow (some sort of typing error), I got the /tmp (and the /media) directories removed. most of the applications stopped working. The first was Thunderbird, saying it couldn't send mails because it could write to the tmp directory. Alas I didn't understood that it was the system wide tmp, I thought of a local folder, so I didn't foud the problem immediately. I then had to reboot. I found me in init 5, but without GUI. startx failed, even yast failed! the repair option from openSUSE 11.1 didn't find the problem either. Hi, Milestone8 is not ready, there are some nasty issues. Most prominently the new kernel throwing OOPSes without acpi=off and KDE updates still don't work, so I won't release M8 in this state. How much delay this means I can't tell atm, but thursday is still possible. Aren't you trying to build it on 11.1 and if yes then have you installed necessary files? I've had 11.2 MS6 installed for several days now and have the .../factory/repo/oss and ..../non-oss, as well as the other Community repos, installed. Yet over this period there have been no updates to any installed files. I only use YaST (and Online Update applet) to check for new updates. Is it a natural thing that there have not been any updates or is it because I am using the 'normal' built-in YaST update facility and should be using something else? [opensuse-factory] Upgrading to M8 from ISO

Is it possible to take an existing 11.1 installation and upgrade to 11.2 M8 by simply using the M8 DVD ISO as an installation/upgrade source? If so, how? Also, anyone done this and seen any issues with the upgrade? Is clean installation preferred? Actually I didn't have a xorg.conf file under /etc/X11 - so what I did was to copy an xorg.conf file from another machine (oS v11.1 but +/- the same physical components) which was running a custom 2.6.30.2 kernel - with your option added. Why is it that these programs are even on the CD/DVDs. Also make sure you are part of the group Hi Don yes i used to have pppd problems with 11.1 never could get it to work with 10.3 and 11.0 no problem at all I'll have to go digging around see what and who things belong to as i say it is fine as root which is a "" dumb stupid state of affairs"" and the sort of thing you would think would be checked on by packagers / devs before it is poked out , After all everyone keeps going on Dont run as root because of the dangers to both your system and the data within yet here we go a piece of software that will NOT DO ITS JOB UNLESS RUN AS ROOT ( and guess what folks like it or not i am shouting ) because this is a fundemental cockup of the first degree .
